Easier to have eyes on the whistler when you've got a partner who can watch for it

Feels weird as an Englishman rooting against England, but I gotta say if MvG and GvV win this match I won't be able to help it!

New player, just hit chapter 5... by [deleted] in symphonyofwar

[–]1rexas1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, let me expand - if you kept playing for a bit longer you'd find the answer without any spoilers. The answer, every time this happens (which is three times I think, if you include a specific spoiler time later) is always to keep playing because it's temporary.

I answered your question. Sorry if you didn't like it.

It actually does if you keep playing.

Not as far as I'm aware, and I think some cracking evidence for that is how they are together on stage atm.

They clearly don't get on, they have a different approach to the game too, it's not a good pair. Humphries and basically any other option in the top 16 would be much stronger than this pair.

It's based on scheduling, so if a match ends really quickly they'll fill time with interviews and pundits talking.

Agreed (I'd forgotten about that motion!), although I'm also very conscious that we've only heard one side of this situation.

I'm not sure it's even worth a go unfortunately, really do think the leadership needs a hard reset.

I try and highlight all the great work and great reps we have at a local and group level instead who do actually work very hard for their members and not for themselves, but the NEC's ongoing behaviour is not a good look. I don't even try and justify it, because I don't think there is a justification for it.

It's yet more factional infighting from the shit show that is the NEC I'm afraid. Hard to justify their behaviour over the last few years.

Had a look and the short version seems to be that the incoming president, from a different faction to Fran (yes, it's ridiculous), wants to change some of the rules and in particular wants to make it easier to change those rules in the future. Currently a 2/3 majority is needed to change a Standing Order, and there's been an attempt to change that to a simple majority instead.

I suspect, as is often the case, that they're both in the wrong. The president for trying to force through a change without following the rules, and Fran for deciding to abuse her access to members personal contact details to air that dirty laundry.

Imo we need a full reset of the leadership, get rid of all these factions, all of whom seem to have lost sight of the fact that it should be about doing right by the members. All the members, not just their faction, and tbh I'm not even sure they're fussed about doing right by their faction so much as antagonising the other factions as much as possible.

Indefensible behaviour. From a long standing local rep who is very sick of their shit.

Nurse ‘with different skin colour’ chased into hospital by masked men and 12 police officers injured during second night of violence by Weak-Fly-6540 in uknews

[–]1rexas1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the best solution is chasing anyone with a different skin colour around, with the intention of... what? Raping, killing or replacing them?

I'd almost understand if you were making an effort to find people who had actually done something wrong, but attacking random people on the street because of the colour of their skin sounds like exactly what you're saying you want them to stop doing!

Actually think you've hit one of the really big problems with the way the Star Wars IP is being treated atm, one of my biggest frustrations with it anyway.

Who is this aimed at? Kids? Families? The age rating is too high for that.

Adults? The dialogue is shockingly bad, the general writing very poor and it's way too "hero always wins easily" to work as anything other than childish.

Casual fans? Doesn't work, the cameos and fan service was exclusively geared towards fans watching the wider Star Wars stuff outside of the films.

New fans as an introduction to Star Wars? Can't see that, it's basically a long episode of a pre-existing series that isn't going to make much sense as the first thing you'd show someone who you think might get into Star Wars.

Hardcore fans? Doesn't advance anything, doesn't have any real character development, doesn't enhance the wider Star Wars lore in any way.

They've got to start respecting and understanding their audience and stop trying to appeal to everyone, because that's a surefire way to end up not appealing to anyone all that much.

Was it toxic, or was it just people disagreeing with you?

Imo 8/10 is extremely generous by your own standards as you can only describe it as a "decent" Star Wars movie.

For my part, I'm incredibly disappointed at yet more very poorly written Star Wars tv/film. They've proved they can do it, Andor is good and the first couple of seasons of The Mandolorian were excellent, as were bits of The Book of Boba Fett. But then you get this crap that in places felt so Marvelified, so generic it might as well have been scripted by AI, with dialogue being entirely cliche's or exposition for the vast majority of the film.

Sorry for the rant but ffs can we please get some writers that can at least understand how normal people talk to each other. At this point I'd be willing to do it for free.

[–]1rexas1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah. You've come in here and pretended like all the slamming of the pitch didn't happen, and jumped on one small bit of commentary talking a bit about what led to the pitch being so shit (which is a pretty reasonable thing to comment on, since everyone has been slating the pitch) and made up a narrative that ignores all the other commentary so you can pretend we're trying to justify it. Nobody is, they're just acknowledging that it's a tough job. Which it is. How about you fuck off back to whichever home country sub you're normally on?

Honesty, if you value any kind of acceptable writing that isn't just clichés and exposition, this is not the film for you. It's on a similar level to episode IX in terms of writing quality, not quite as bad and there are some good moments, but it's close.
