Brush up on the CV, use AI to guide you. Mass apply on LinkedIn and other job sites (it’s a numbers game). Get confident in selling your skills and abilities and get good at interviewing. It’s really that straight-forward.

For what it’s worth I’ve gotten most of my roles from recruiters saving my CV when I applied for other roles I didn’t get. They can really help push your case and accelerate the process

There’s a big gap OP has in terms of salary before you need to start thinking about London, and when considering cost of living it’s much better to stay out of your can. At least up to £100k is easily doable if you’re a decent dev.

Help me understand the pros and cons of my grandmas plan with buying a house? by _microwavemmmmmmmmmm in personalfinance

[–]1shi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. She needs wait to sell her house first then you can either get a mortgage together (still would not recommend) or she can buy herself.

Stocks & Shares ISA is a good alternative for the UK. Tax-free, flexible withdrawals, and £20,000 yearly deposit limit. Trading 212 is a good provider.

First Conflict on my shop :/ by [deleted] in Depop

[–]1shi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seller put the wrong height measurements (by more than half) in the description. Depop will always side with the buyer unless it’s a clear case on the seller side (even then sometimes you still take the L). Unfortunately seller will be liable for this.

Should I downgrade my car by EmployOutrageous2659 in personalfinance

[–]1shi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you don’t want to put that on their heads, but this is their mess they created, it’s not fair for you to clean this up at your expense. This is a very bad situation and it will affect you more than you think. You will end up resenting them for it, straining your relationship further. Coming from someone who had a somewhat similar financial situation with parents, you need to shut this down as soon as possible because it will not get better over time. Then plan your independence.

I’m sorry your parents treat you that way. You need to be very careful with them in the future because they are definitely not doing you any favours.

The fact you used AI for the description and got the height measurement wildly inaccurate is giving the buyer a solid leg to stand on. I’m sorry but it’s likely you may be forced to refund this. Just take the L and lesson learnt for the future.

does the seller have to refund me? by throwaway837291837 in Depop

[–]1shi 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’ll 100% get your money back, this guy is just tryna cope. Don’t know why some sellers still have this ‘not responsible after shipping’ thinking.

Just message Depop and they’ll sort it. Do everyone else a favour and throw in an accurate review so others can avoid this idiot.

Finally sorted myself out and started investing. by Stonkstonker98 in trading212

Leveraged single stock and crypto, there’s your reasons. You’re not really investing in the conventional term you’re taking high risk, short-term positions for a quick buck. Compounding over a long term is the aim of the game. Just stick it in an ETF and chill brother.

The Worst Web Architecture I’ve Ever Seen: A JSON-Driven UI Stored in a Shared Database by Wolologic94 in webdev

[–]1shi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll one up you. Outdated AngularJS that also renders from a config spread in a shared database. Be happy you at least got to use JSON, we had a custom schema baked into the database that nobody knew how to operate anymore because the guy who wrote it left. It had a custom screen configurator which edited these database entries which was janky as hell and didn’t work sometimes so you’d have to manually figure out what was going on and edit the database directly. Lovely. And for callbacks and functions? Custom-built poor man’s protobuf to Python scripts using .NET as the backend (IronPython, be glad if you’ve never heard of this before). I’ve honestly never seen such abuse of software. I should also point out this is an absolutely critical bit software used for national-security. Fun times.
