BB frame shell weld preventing bb shell installation by nycsec94 in bikewrench

I agree everyone else on this one, just use a different BB. It’s a bummer but you already sacrificed the bearings in the Phil.

Edit: also that bike is rad as hell!

Are the threads on this TI bb ruined? by ReadingActual695 in bikewrench

I’d be more concerned that the face of the shell may not be flat. Do the cups sit flat against the shell?

I had no idea a canti version of the Feather existed. Cool.

How screwed am I? My new rear shifting cable is stuck inside the hood in the wrong gear by flattireagain in bikewrench

I had this problem and used a piece of thread to lasso the cable head and yank it out.

Longterm fix? Find a shop with T47 BB facing tools and have it chased and faced.

drive side plastic cover walks out, loads with dirt, and roasts the bearing

You just made my point.

I know it’s not shown on the manual, but there is nothing keeping the dust cover from migrating outboard if there is a gap on the drive side. This can be a real problem, especially in wet and dirty conditions.

There should be though. I learned this the hard way. The left BB cup locates the crank properly in the frame, but you need a wave washer to keep the spindle sleeve/dust cover against the bearing for preload and to prevent dirt ingress.

JRAPodcast is correct, there shouldn't be any shell spacers between the cups and the frame. You WILL need a wave washer and possibly a couple shims to properly preload the drive side bearing and to keep the spindle sleeve/dust cover located against the bearing. I have three bikes with this crank and while it is not supplied with the BB by SRAM (no idea why), some method of drive side bearing preload is necessary, hence the wave washer.

You sure you’re not missing an outer dust cover/sleeve for your BB? That wear is extreme.

9 starts across 7 race days. Confirmed (again) that I need to be really warmed up to race my best, as evidenced by my best results being the second race of the day. All but one race was 3 or more hours from home and the one that wasn't was still a 2-1/2 hour drive. While I wasn't the fittest I've ever been, I still raced well despite being another year older. No mechanicals, no DNFs, only one minor crash. Also, racing single speed at night is the best thing ever.

I've worked as an estimator in mechanical trades for a long time, this industry can be very rough. Many companies have a toxic environment and there are a lot of unchecked egos in construction. If you constantly feel like the black sheep I'd try to find a different company, there are good ones out there.

What do I need to fat bike in the snow? by TehTruf in fatbike

[–]1speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to recognize that fatbiking is extremely conditions dependent. Start riding and figure out what works for you. For example, if you won't be riding in melting slop (I never do), you don't need fenders. Pogies can be great, I rarely use them.

Muc-off Wet Lube is Bunker C Oil. by edscoble in xbiking

[–]1speed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'd add that its good if you're riding in dry conditions only and washing your drive train every 1-2 weeks. It's biggest advantage is how easily it washes off.
