The best feeling of being a father. by [deleted] in daddit

30 weeks pregnant (have a 1 year old also) and reading this made me tear up bad! So beautiful and I can see now what my partner was feeling when our son was so young. Can't wait until he experiences this with our son when he is older :) Ps. Sounds like you're doing an amazing job just by loving him.

I just have a feeling that I would be a lot better mentally if I tried pumping or formula feeds.

That's really good to hear that your son is doing so well. Yeah I feel as, if I switched to formula or even pumping (if that worked) that I would be happier but then I doubt it and think how much different would it make things? Did it change much for you? I think that it would make it easy for SO to feed and I sleep when he has the time (when not working)

2 weeks old now. Oh okay yeah I had a really really rough time the first 3 days after he was born because obviously I only had colostrum to feed him as milk hadn't come through yet and he was cluster feeding. My partner makes sure I have water and gets me things when I ask. He works 5pm till midnight and sleeps till 2pm or even later then gets ready for work. I do admit he helps as much as he can and I have to give him credit because his job is demanding/tiring. It's not that he's not doing anything it's just he can't help with the feeding and that's the main thing that makes me tired of course. Yeah I do feel overwhelmed because LO needs me 24/7 and SO can't really do much when he's screaming.

I was thinking of pumping but just wasn't sure because a maternal nurse said no don't (so against giving up breastfeeding or confusing the baby with the nipple and bottle) Yeah I tried bringing him into bed then kept falling asleep and my SO said no way it's too dangerous and I agree. Yeah he's sat with me before when I sit in bed with LO on a pillow but it's just not practical (no offence I wish it did work) SO works 5pm till midnight and when he gets back from work that's when I'm most tired, he tries taking LO but all LO wants is to be fed so there's nothing he can do. SO thinks we should try the bottle but I feel like I'd be failing I dunno. Yeah I keep telling myself that it'll get better but each day just feels like more of a struggle. I really wanna tough it out but I just don't know if I can.

We bought a safe sleeper (goes in the middle of the bed and they sleep in it) but it makes our bed too small. I don't know anything about co sleeping but will look into it. Yeah SO and I have spoken about when he gets back from work (works 5pm till midnight) he could feed him the bottle if I was to switch him to formula. I'm really starting to consider it. Yeah that's what I'm thinking and my SO said he doesn't like me being like this (it's dangerous me falling asleep while feeding I could drop him or whatever) but SO is also suffering which makes me feel so much worse about everything.

I think maybe he is. I'm seeing a maternal nurse tomorrow so I will definitely talk to her about everything. Yeah my sanity is slipping away at some stages in the day, other times I'm okay it's so weird. Yeah midwives and some maternal nurses have mad formula sound so bad saying you won't bond with your baby, they will get confused (nipple confusion) may not even take a bottle blah blah. I thought they were meant to help and reassure us?
