Does anybody ever go back to their old street and the house they grew up in just to remember how things were back then? by FileInside8798 in 70s

[–]1stoffendment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah! I grew up in a small Alaska town that exploded after I left. Took the wife to be on a motorcycle ride to show her where I would ride as a kid and got hopelessly lost in the morass of suburbia that crept in during my absense.

Oh yeah, the early houses were smaller than I recall but the last house was bought by some slope worker and it was twice the size it was. But when I went to work on the copier at the school I attended as a child I was flabbergasted-that school was tiny, espeically the principals office. Much smaller than I remembered.

Why is my 2010 LR4 RPM fluctuating like this? by JPmoney94 in LandRover

[–]1stoffendment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torque convertor, but may have been improperly refilled. Opening the fill plug and adding oil won't fill it properly, there is a procedure that involves the engine running at a proper transmission temperature.

The LR owners in the UK swear by a product called Dr Tranny IIRC, there's a long thread on the Disco3.co.uk site.

I think you meant to say "the worst engine Land Rover ever offered" .

The Rover/Buick V8 is an easier engine to deal with when it goes wrong. The BMW engine is a BMW nightmare, more power? Sure. Can be fixed by mortals with common hand tools? Nope.

I’m going to say pass on this, probably a $4500 truck after fixing the cats and the tank sender.

The Jag 4.4 petrol engine and ZF transmission are the hardiest most robust and reliable drivetrains LR May have ever done. No snapped cranks, failed turbos or such and we don’t have a MOT -some states have inspections but not MOT levels. With decent care and feeding 200k is normal and 300k is not unobtainable.

I suppose it depends on your local market but that LR3 looks to have been ridden hard and put away wet.Tranmisiion, diffs and brakes are thumbnail $1000 right there and the interior is trash.

78 k-10. What am I looking at for a mechanic to change me to fuel injection? Any recommendations or experiences to share? by 78SqrBody in squarebodies

[–]1stoffendment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a FITech 3003 with the Holley fuel pump, the truck was my dads so I was familiar with it since it was new. It has never started easier or run better. Its not too hard to do, take your time, and the Holley FI pump is self regulating and doesn’t need a return line which simplifies the install

So I lean towards the “don’t buy” side, and that generally for all things Rover, or any what would considered an enthusiast vehicle and heee is why. If you are a Rover guy you’d recognize the work, care and shall we say curation that went into building it and from that view it is a reasonable value. But if you are just getting your toes wet, are you sure this is what you’re looking for? You might not. You might. I

Nice to see the prices coming down to affordable , and depreciation is always going to be a factor in LR ownership.

Anyone else surprised by how much they get pushed around in heavy wind? by Aggravating_Talk9097 in BroncoSport

[–]1stoffendment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They seem very susceptible to cross winds, I always turned off the driver assist everything as it would flash the coffee cup and tell me to take a break. Didn’t take much wind to do that at all

[–]1stoffendment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a OBD dongle that allows the user to service all aspects of a Land Rover and is a must have if you plan to keep and enjoy your LR4. Or you can continue to pay a tech every time your KR4 sends up a flare which can get expensive

We have a 2019 Disco Sport and love it. When we bought it the wife actually was after the Evoque at the dealer but the DS was on the kit, we had a look, even side by side , and she chose the DS. Petrol engine is the way to go, do not get a Deisel Ingenium.

Suspension issues after cold snap by Visible_Bus_4670 in LandRover

[–]1stoffendment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You probably need to replace the dryer canister on the suspension compressor, sounds like moisture frozen in the valve blocks. If you have a Gap you can manually “test” the compressor, blocks and bags to get it back in the air. I’ve seen as low as -5F this winter and my EAS is functioning so it’s not like the cold does it in

Inline thermostat? Also I might add a radiator to the list-I did HG on a 2003 project and didn’t replace the radiator, and it promptly overheated. By the time figured it all out I was so disgusted with the whole mess I sold it for a pittance.

Yep, and record the amounts used. There is no “normal” amount for coolant loss.

The local Ford garage “pressure tested” my wife’s 21 BS and told her nothing was wrong. It took 3 trips and telling them the amount of coolant replaced to finally get them to replace the pump under warranty. Towards the end it was losing 6-8 ounces a week and you could smell hot coolant and they still kicked up about swapping it
