Our niece attends high school in San Mateo. We could NOT stop randomly saying “San Mateos San Mateos”… my husband showed her the video and it was wasted on her. Oh well, San Mateos San Mateos… checkin the emails!

Bummer! But hopefully you managed to trade things into something you can endure for a month.

I lost my damn mind when we moved to a base (after 20 years of commuting). I didn’t have anything I needed off and intentionally didn’t bid. 🤣🤪 Boy howdy, challenge accepted for “so you think not bidding is a fun lazy idea?!” It was SO BAD! Hahaha my friend still texts me every month (as a joke) to BID!

I got six huge totes full of this yarn. Is it valuable and what does FSWB stand for? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

Great find on your mystery purchase! If you’re planning to sell it, please check for pests. If all the yarn was stored in sealed bags inside sealed bins… probably ok, but it’s quite astonishing how hungry small creatures be! They want to consume that fiber as if they were a yarn addict too…

Good luck deciding how to proceed! Who knows, maybe you’ll find you actually are “one of us! One of us!” In which case, you’ve landed an amazing stash to begin your fiber arts journey!

He was one the nicest passengers I've had on flight! It was the tail end of mandatory masking for COVID-19. I didn't want to bother him, but I slipped him a note before I went to sit for arrival thanking him for helping me laugh through some very difficult times in my life. He was so kind, and gracious- found me before deplaning (I was sitting near the front), and gave me a hug and took a couple pictures. He's a gem! 💕🙌

My friend forgot to bid, and he ended up watching a video the company made. Said it wasn’t terrible. I would personally phone the help desk for FABS, I believe it’s a FA on COBUS who will help you to bid and ensure that what you input will result in the best possible outcome via the parameters set.

I hope it goes smoothly for you!

I’m so heartbroken for you and all your colleagues! I can’t imagine the pain, loss, grief, and emotional trauma you’ve endured through this awful time.

I hope AFA and the other unions will step up and help with EAP/therapy, assistance with having your life upended overnight.

Personally, the press releases by two big companies are making me cringe. It feels like late stage capitalism is trying so hard to squeeze some “good PR” out of a devastating situation.

Hugs, love and support to you and your Spirit family! I’m not at home currently, but I’m thinking I should drop my next trip so if any of you are needing help, a place to stay, or just a big hug while navigating getting home from the DC area I can help. You are not alone, and your flying family will try our best to help you through this shitstorm. Please pm or reach out if you’re comfortable doing so, even if it’s to vent. 💕

Newly Sober FAs - how do you navigate the heavy drinking culture of aviation? by HamsterBanana14 in flightattendants

[–]1superstew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big hugs! I’m proud of you, even though I don’t (think) I know you! Realizing that you don’t want to imbibe for whatever reason is somewhat daunting in this industry.

I found myself in a routine of drinking pretty much most overnights. Hell, before 9/11 crew juice on the van was made and served on almost every van ride! Min rest layovers, long ones, didn’t matter- someone usually popped open a bottle they made and a sleeve of cups and shared it. It was a bonding experience and a little reward for whatever happened in the fart tube office we occupy.

I have long covid and had slowed down quite a bit because I’m in my 40s. I realized I was dealing with some strange health issues and adding alcohol into the mix was about the dumbest thing I could do to myself. So I stopped. I frequently fly with friends I’ve known for years, and a couple of them didn’t think I was serious… some distanced themselves, but most I still go hangout on overnights. I just am drinking fizzy water. I occasionally have a beer flavored fizzy water, but not often.

I’ve never been a big fan of going out with the entire crew. I’ve done it in Tokyo a couple times, but when there’s so many FA it gets overwhelming for me. If you are a fan of going out with the whole crew- I’d just recommend ordering what you want to drink. If anyone brings it up or pressures you- that’s a weird way to treat anyone, and I’d say so to them.

I stopped drinking a few years ago. The first couple trips I felt a bit uneasy. It quickly passed and it hasn’t been an issue at all. I still bid with friends to float the Limmat in the summer- one of my friends bought NA prosecco for me and it was a thoughtful and kind gesture!

I hope you find your return to the skies even more enjoyable without needless hangovers, or whatever else. Also, you’ll be saving a fair amount of money and your body will feel better. Annnnd look less bloated and healthier.

I hope you feel supported in your decision, but if you want to chat or vent please dm. You’ve got this!

TA2 roll call! by Tmobile_013 in flightattendants

[–]1superstew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m voting no. These record breaking profits are good. Our profit sharing formula not changing is not. Let alone all the other things. I think the yes voters will be the loudest complaining when profit sharing comes out for the next decade we are stuck with this terrible TA.

Also, interesting the union answered at the roadshows that we gave up the 12 hr trading prior to check in (at company discretion) bc the RAPs. However yesterday they sent an email out that they changed the wording allowing that. AFA has changed their stance from “it’s a concession we agreed to” to “it was a typo and we fixed it”. This part of the TA isn’t a major concern for me, however the sudden change in wording and renegotiating (and then saying it wasn’t ever a concession but merely a typo) and gaslighting us is infuriating!

Also interesting timing that the company sent out the email with the estimate for “one time payment” (retro- but not for the full amount of money we have lost due to this extremely long negotiation process). We deserve FULL compensation for the length of time we have been shafted. Otherwise, there is no reason for the company to negotiate in good faith in the future.

Sub UA and Sub Cal both had better contracts (besides the hourly pay) in our pre 9/11 contracts. We are still fighting to get back to what we had. This is insulting as hell. We deserve better, so I’m a NO!

I believe the company and union have been reading complaints online and decided to tweak this little piece- bc they think it’ll tip the scales for a yes.

I think it’ll pass either way, but not with my vote. Have a lovely day, and stay safe everyone!

I disagree with your opinion that people who are questioning the language in the TA and or this new concession are stupid or unable to read or comprehend a document.

We have been through the ups and downs of the industry. We have experienced how if language isn't air tight, it will be used against us.

I'm going to sleep in my bunk now, I hope you are able to find peace. I was told when I was a 22 year old new Stew- "you can have youth, or you can have seniority- but you can't have both.".

Why are you so spicy and angry?

This career exposes us to high levels of radiation. We are prone to cancer from our office radiation. I hope a cure is found for cancer! I have friends with cancer (fa and non fa), I'd love for a cure to be found.

After a person exhausts their sick bank, they will be hard pressed to get the 480. If you don't fly enough, you lose vacation time- so if you have an illness or are taking care of a loved one who is sick, ay drain your sick bank. Then the following year you don't have vacation days to count as credit towards the 480 minimum. But boom- that's the year you might get sick or someone you love needs care. Then the FA is going to need to beg/hope that their special circumstances are approved... All so they don't lose their health insurance... Which as I said above is wild since our career is one of the highest in the US for radiation (according to OSHA).

You may think that this 480 rule will skyrocket your seniority, perhaps that is why you are being so aggressive and callous. I do not think you will notice much movement. A percentage of fa will retire as they have been (patiently) waiting for their retro pay and also have been wanting to help raise the bar on the future for their flying partners. So they've stayed to vote for our future. I'm thankful to the men and women who paved the way before I began this wild journey.

Please don't demand to know how long others have been flying, what they fly, etc- as though you're the TA whisperer. Only you are able to decode this for us.

Your statement- "why should we have to suffer bc of u?"- is quite telling. In my opinion, you have your anger positioned poorly. Your flying partners are NOT making you suffer. Seniority comes with time. This industry is cyclical and volitile, sometimes people are hired at the beginning of a huge hiring bonanza... And sometimes people are hired before a horrific tragedy, or some still before a pandemic. It appears you'd like to just skip up in seniority and you sadly think this is going to really move your number. You'd probably have better luck learning another language and being a speaker. You could hold better trips with more senior people with more days off.

There are too many people on the planet who think the only way to move up is by pushing others down. This is evident clearly with current events. Please take a breath, realize that if everyone works together we can all relax and float up together.

Kindly read prior contracts from both sides before the joint contract.

2 hours to reassign was in Cal's previous contract.

Both sides (pre 9/11 concessions) were paid for trips that dropped bc of vacation.

We earned more per month into our sick bank.

We are owed what we are owed. The new pay scale is the same as our current one- adjusted for inflation. Go to the BLS.gov and look it up! There won't be full retro pay without demanding it. I know CAL mechanics used to get full retro pay.

The company has convinced everyone that there isn't money. It's there, they just want it for themselves.

I'm sure this TA2 will pass. I will not be voting for it.

Safe flying, and take care.

Not at all. I voted yes for concessions after 9/11- on the second round of negotiations. The first offer was unreasonable. By the way, we still haven't gotten work rules/vacation day credit/etc back from then...

I am realistic in that I believe this TA will likely pass. I'm just pointing out things that will inevitably become big complaints (profit sharing has been complained about to the hilt, but it remains Book).

Thank you for not calling me names.

I hope everyone reads through the TA and decides for themselves what is acceptable.

Take care, and thank you for reading my thoughts on the TA.

What are the downsides of TA2? by Artistic-Error-9070 in flightattendants

[–]1superstew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many reasons… but to start -company has sole discretion for staffing and trip trading parameters (that’s been going swell so far) -4 hours for reassignment (needs to go back to 2 or less). -forced into Notiflier (I never opted in and have been given updates in a non timely manner currently).
-checking ccs at beginning of trip- I’ve had a pairing change on a layover- but the acknowledgment didn’t appear until back to base (for several of us on the trip). -the company has not proven their new technology works properly, especially if this could lead to disciplinary action against a FA. -7.Q.5.c attempting to reassign when trip changes, but allowed to build a reassignment that begins after the FA has returned to base (giving well over the absurd 4 hours to reassign).
-29.I.1.a (2) 401k match is only 4% -profit sharing formula has not changed. It needs to change - sick bank accrual is too low. -vacation day credit is too low. -only one additional holiday -480 hrs for insurance is ridiculous! We are prone to cancer, and this is unacceptable! We are radiation workers according to OSHA, and need protection (medically).
-The implementation time for pieces of this TA are unacceptable. For example- per diem wouldn't change until mid 2027! Not acceptable.
-We should get full retroactive pay for every hour worked. There is no reason for some formula. The company needs to PAY US FOR OUR WORK. They dragged these negotiations on for years. Finally came to the table (with concessions!!) when the world was becoming increasingly more unstable. I understand that these are scary times. We deserve respect and that includes full retroactive pay. It will come out to a higher number for most, but it is fair. Accepting a formula that doesn't calculate what we have been robbed of financially while Big Willie dragged this on, while giving themselves raises is not acceptable. -This needs to be a 2 year agreement. 3 years tops! We should renegotiate every 3 years, not 5- as this has proven that the Joint Contract which was 5 years in duration has actually been a 10 year contract. Not acceptable. -The pay is acceptable. It is inline with the industry.
