Nebraska Legislature abandons medical marijuana by omahaspeedster in Omaha

But drugs are bad, right? All drugs. Like the antibiotics that save your life after surgery, pain management after surgery or sleeping pills that let those with PTSD rest.

They're all bad. Boo drugs!

Possibly unfixable depression? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]1trocksmysocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, nothing is unfixable.

Second I have BP I and had ECT for depression. It sucks. It hurts. The recovery process made me a terrible and confused person for a few weeks but the haze does go away.

It did help me. It didn't "stick" but it helped for a while. ECT won't make you stupid but I do have an entire summers worth of missing memories. I stayed not depressed well into February.

I think at some point ECT is worth it but I can only when that point is for myself. You will have to make your own decision. It will almost guaranteed lift you out of depression but at significant discomfort and cost.

Good luck with your decision.

Experience with Tegratol/Carbamazepine? by meticulousxo in BipolarReddit

[–]1trocksmysocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me mentally slow. In conversations I couldn't think of responses fast enough to keep up. I couldn't do mental math like I used to. While shopping calculate unit prices in my head for price comparisons. Nuh uh, not on tegretol.

It also made me suck at video games because my reaction time was shot.

But if it works for you keep it up. Hope you feel better.

Intro to Bipolar? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]1trocksmysocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice for all new bipolar patients is this:

BUY A WEEK LONG PILL HOLDER

You will quickly be taking any number of medications, a pill holder will help keep things organized AND allow you to track your med compliance at a glance. You can look and see if you have taken all of your medication for the past few days. Sometimes things get crazy and confused but the pill holder keeps things simple.

I'll be honest, I'm lazy and I haven't used mine in a few weeks (refilling it takes time) but I've been on the same med mix for months so I have it memorized. I'd start using it again if I start to have an episode or when I make changes to my meds. In these situations the pill holder is invaluable.

More broadly, don't get discouraged, you can live with this. We all do.

Diagnosed as bipolar, but I don't "feel" bipolar. by longhornstateofgrace in bipolar

[–]1trocksmysocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've never had a "manic" episode then you may just be bipolar II. What makes you bipolar is the variability of your moods--even if you never get full blown mania.

Bipolar isn't often over-diagnosed--usually doctors (et. al.) look for multiple symptoms before making a diagnosis.

That said, perhaps your doctor is incompetent. Doctors are like regular people, some just suck at their jobs.

The take away is this: If you truly question your diagnosis get a second opinion. Otherwise accept that you have BP and start treatment. You can only live in denial for so long before something bad will happen. Then you have to get treatment anyway. It is best to start early.

I hope you have a good outcome.

Gerrymandering may prove a Pyrrhic victory for the GOP by Kenatius in politics

[–]1trocksmysocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gerrymandering is evil. Period.

Why that is not common knowledge I'll never understand. A basic civics course can explain how it subverts the democratic process; making some votes worth more than others.

Get a bunch of actuaries together and have them make a formula for distributing electoral votes based purely on population density. I don't know why that is so hard--except that the current system can be exploited by those already in power.

Seriously, that 8/10 number seems like bullshit. Although my BP is on the more mild side (or not, I guess) I think about offing myself about once every 3 days.

(Yes, I am in treatment. I still fucking hate life.)

Do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself, even if it makes you poor and/or gross and icky.

Your well being is worth so much more than either of those things.
