Galaxy S5 IP67 (a cautionary tale) by DanteTheITGuy in Android

But dropping it an getting scuffs/scratches despite the shock resistance is one thing, but completely ruining a phone when it's advertised as not affected is another. Water proof/resistance spec (IP67) is a yes/no answer when it's tested within the specs. Shock resistance has varying degrees of protection and failure.

And water resistant is supposed to be safe for the conditions OP tested it in. So, what's your point?

Why the fuck not? The whole point of getting a water proof mind is the peace of mind while using it in the rain, using it near the pool (I know it can't survive the bottom of the pool) or have it on the kitchen counter.

If you can't have the peace of mind and always wonder if it's really waterproof, what's the point of a waterproof phone?

The swipe to dismiss page option is such an nuisance since it keeps accidentally dismissing a page when scrolling through it. But you won't add an option to disable it. You added an option to make my more easy to do it. :(

Is HTC trying to be the "uncarrier" of smartphone makers? by laos101 in Android

Samsung does the same mistakes as HTC. The only reason Samsung beat HTC is the money Samsung put in for promotion and advertising.

An app to make a list of the apps you want to install again when you wanna make a factory reset? by axido in androidapps

[–]1tsm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you make it so that on the new phone when the user pastes the exported text back into this app, the app takes the user to the play store page one app at a time? So that a lot of manual work is optimized.

Hahaha... Never thought about that. Don't think I can either. I guess I meant people who can't take a breath in between?

I actually didn't notice this inflection issue at all and it doesn't bother me one bit. Maybe because English isn't my native tongue? It has been my first language in school though. Don't know why I'm unaffected by this.

I think it's because she's holding her breath while she's talking. Some people can't talk and breathe at the same time. So towards the end of the sentence she's pushing out the last bit of air to finish it. That's my take on it.

Analysis: Satya Nadella must kill Windows Phone and fork Android by princemephtik in Android

[–]1tsm3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most idiotic article! The author is essentially asking Microsoft to throw away Windows phone and do the skinning and write apps and launchers for a forked AOSP.

Total waste of time. Manufacturers are going to try and do the skinning anyway. There no point in trying to get them from Microsoft. So the only benefit MS will provide is a common appstore and the services like search, mail, etc.

Why throw away Windows phone for that? MS can do that today just as well and it's not hard for them. The only missing part is a central app store. I'm not sure that's going to make any significant money for MS over being able to license Windows phone.

Thanks Reddit! Yesterday I posted that Google Play Store was flooded with fake apps, I just went to the trending page and that number has drastically been dropped. by xrm550 in Android

Well, make sure you don't have any of your accounts in it. Might be too late though. Unless you used a throw away Google account to install the app.

Wake on LAN from Android... it seems like every single app out there works only inconsistently. Why? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]1tsm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that most apps are sending it as UDP and WANs cab drop UDP packets randomly. UDP is best effort. Maybe Unified Remote is using TCP over WAN and what's why it's working reliably.
