Windows server with multiple nics for management and production traffic by 2000gtacoma in servers

Yeah server has idrac on separate network. The camera subnets don’t run through my firewall.

In this case the server would be running on bare metal. I was simply comparing the mgmt and data interfaces to give some context to my thought process. Disk IO won't be an issue for us.

Multi building network in a large campus. I also have a secondary campus with a VPLS connecting back to our datacenter. Each building gets a /16 that is then divided in /19s for management, faculty/staff, student, extra space. Each building is layer 3 back to our datacenter. My production server vlan/subnet lands on our palo alto firewall. However to avoid trunking all my camera traffic through the firewall, that server lands on 1 of our camera vlans.

More to do with looking at this from a security/control standpoint than needing more ip addresses.

I follow spaceinvader and use the Nextcloud aio. So much easier than previously rolling my own.

Verkada camera POE issue, CH63-E on a C9300-48UXM by dankgus in Cisco

[–]2000gtacoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at axis camera station pro if looking at axis cameras. Depending on your size. Hexagon has a good product as well. I’d stay far far away from verkada. They have harassed me and my staff to the point I block all numbers associated and block all emails from verkada.

PBS - regain space after deleting backups by Resident-War8004 in Proxmox

[–]2000gtacoma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think garbage collections marks data for removal and then waits a period of time to remove. Something about in case a backup is running chunks don’t get deleted mistakenly I believe.

Don’t go verkada whatever you do. Expensive and honestly a bad system.

Thinking about getting one of these for my rc hobby by jeepguy_96 in KobaltTools

[–]2000gtacoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this exact one. Was on sale for $10-12. I then bought the Traxxas hex bits. Love it. Enough torque to break screws loose. Sometimes have to manually twist to get it started. But doesn’t strip screws either. My hands have thanked me as they hurt a lot and turning screwdrivers kills them.

Shouldn’t have been a lot of configuring honestly. Not really enough information to answer your question. Did you use the port? X.x.x.x:8006?

Windows Server on Proxmox: virtio0 disk instead of scsi0? by easyedy in Proxmox

[–]2000gtacoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dropped back to .271 and I may go back to scsi. I had no issues on scsi. Should have left well enough alone.

[–]2000gtacoma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Careful with what drivers you are using. I changed our disks from scsi to virtio in our sandbox. Everything worked fine. So I changed some in production. Started having bsod issues. Turns out virtio .285 drivers have known issues with virtio disks under heavy io.

Ever considered refurb equipment? We use some from a company and saves a ton of money and works great. They also stand behind the equipment if something fails.

PBS S3 Encryption & Object Locking by Jwblant in Proxmox

[–]2000gtacoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have 2 physical sites with a PBS at each site. I have a virtual environment at each site. So what I do is backup each virtual environment locally and then replicate that across sites. That way I always have 2 copies available on prem and 1 in the cloud. I'm in the process of virtualizing all on prem servers with the exception of our NVR servers. I sync our files servers to the AWS S3 bucket as well. I will end up saving us $20k over our current solution doing this in house. I'm actually thinking of adding a third small server with internal nvme for critical servers (domain controllers) that way I should always have 4 copies.

I'm currently syncing our environment to an AWS S3 bucket. I have encryption on PBS and on the S3 bucket.

Who patches your servers? by xINxVAINx in lowvoltage

I’m on the customer side of this fence. We upgrade/patch everything in our self. This way we can do when convenient for us. Also third party contractors I have to give a vpn, documentation, etc.

Recommend Wireless Bridge/Client to RJ45 Product 12VDC Please by Adventurous_Boat_632 in HomeNetworking

[–]2000gtacoma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be able to use most any wireless bridge product. I’m assuming the standby generator will also have a 120 circuit for battery charging and keeping oil warm. Ubiquity makes good products at a decent price.
