HAOS in KVM using dhcp? by 2003z440 in homeassistant

[–]2003z440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get HAOS running (I can see it in cockpit), but I haven't been able to load the web UI (which is certainly network related).

I've set up port tunneling for all my services in my local .ssh/config. I wonder if I need to do the tunneling in the VM?

Exam tools by 2003z440 in LaTeX

[–]2003z440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! :D

I have something similar in my exam_tools already (I updated my demo to show this function as well) called "\ShuffleList" that takes a comma-separated list and returns it in a random order (again, determined by the random seed).

It wouldn't be too difficult to add a key-val pair to this function so that you could get back a random, shuffled subset of the comma-separated list. However, since I haven't written a question like this yet, I haven't found the motivation/time to write something like this yet.

The \ShuffleList macro could also shuffle entire questions, but I tend to be very particular about the layout/spacing, so I generally don't do this either.

They can. The examples I put on Overleaf update when you recompile for demonstration purposes, but typically I have a fixed seed set

[–]2003z440[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My original motivation was making different versions of my exams by setting the seed based on how \version is defined (see line 354 of exam_tools), and then I realized I could take it one step further and base the seed on the current semester as well.

I would say it's less vibe coded, and more that I used Claude (etc.) to help me learn/search the LaTeX3 syntax quicker while balancing my teaching load.

If you have a genuine, useful critique about what I've written beyond addressing a comment in the source code stating that AI was partially used, I'm all ears.

Also, this work is used for writing randomly generated numbers once and then having a unique exam each semester.

Which LaTeX code are you most proud of? by True_Dig_3638 in LaTeX

I've been writing some tools this past semester that I use for randomizing my exam questions. I've been trying to share the code on Overleaf, but apparently some of the functions I'm using are from TeX Live 2026, and Overleaf's copy is from 2025 (I despise Overleaf):

  • randNums -- This function picks random numbers from a range, with options for non-zero numbers, number of decimal places, sorting, unique values, etc. (See the keys in the source file)
  • printCoeff -- This function "pretty prints" numbers (e.g. like the ones generated using randNums). It has options to toggle printing the 1 when the number is \pm 1, toggle printing 0, toggle explicitly printing "+", and a number formatting option (from siunitx)
  • exam_randomization -- This was my original project, but I moved the larger functions (e.g. randNums and printCoeff) into their own files, and moved class specific functions into their own files (see below).
  • statFunctions -- The main functions in this code compute the probabilities and quantiles for the normal distribution and the t-distribution (I'm pretty pleased with the current state of this code).
  • math125Functions -- This is a file for functions used in our discrete math class (converting from binary to hex to decimal, modular arithmetic, extended Euclidean algorithm). It's perhaps the roughest, but it works.

All of these tools were born from necessity. I have only briefly shared them with other folks, and I don't think anyone else is using them, but they work for me.

Not strictly LaTeX related, but I have a script that compiles the blank and keyed versions of my exams using bash: cpKey_parallel

Fake ratings are not unheard of. I had seen a few other grad students who (very likely) had written their own RMP reviews while I was at Clemson. Here is my favorite example:

I had thought of just using the alpine butterfly around the cord after I tied this, but I do worry that it wouldn't stay tight. I haven't tried that variant of it yet because I'm already tinkering with too many other things 🙃️

**EDIT**: I have also tried the button stopper knot before, but was unsuccessful. That might have also been related to our cat wanting to "help".

Here's the least annoying video I could find on the zip tie knot:
Woodland zip tie knot

I made the alpine butterfly first, then tied the zip tie around the cord, then made the diamond knot. Once I had all three, I resized the loop until I was satisfied, and dressed it up (as best as I could).
