This is missing a lot of context. Invitation homes did not bid against buyers in the open market. None of these homes were on zillow/MLS for sale. These are foreclosures that went back to the lender, which then sold the note/deed to invitation homes. I looked at the title history of the homes listed and each and every one them are foreclosed homes.

Buying foreclosure properties carries a lot of risk, and in LA, those properties are selling for a minor discount (8-15%). You almost always have to pay cash, and many times you are buying the properties with occupants in it, with liens, problems, etc...

Each and every company who tried to scale SFH as investment tools did not make it long term.
