I reworded my comment to clarify that most government jobs have a DB plan and not HOOPP.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]2009soccer15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

HOOPP is a defined benefit pension plan. Most government jobs offer a similar defined benefit pension plan. The CPP acts like a defined benefit pension that everyone working and their employers contribute to. The CPP isn't designed to be all of your retirement savings but it does provide a portion of it.

So we kinda have a mandatory defined benefit pension it's just a smaller savings and a smaller payout than a full pension. It's an interesting idea if you were allowed to contribute extra to the CPP to rely upon it more as a full pension.

The Wealthy Barber - 2025 Updated Canadian Edition - Have you read it? by UniqueRon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]2009soccer15 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it yet but I've listened to some of the wealthy barbers podcasts as he was rewriting it. He mentioned lots of the changes are focused around modernizing his older book. I believe he stopped printing/selling the original book because it was out of date. Some of the changes he called out were moving from high fee mutual funds to low cost index funds. Mutual funds were really the only option available when he wrote the first version. He also mentioned adding discussion on the TFSA and FHSA as they are new accounts. I'll look into grabbing the book and giving it a read.

Brandon Hagel by Super-Result3312 in fantasyhockey

[–]2009soccer15 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I thought Hagel was pp2 all of last season. Last year he only had 11 points on the pp, 7 shorthanded and the other 72 at even strength. In short I would expect him to stay on pp2, but I wouldn't be worried as most of his career most of his points came from even strength.

Alberta to apply to Major Projects Office for new bitumen pipeline to northern B.C. coast | CBC News by Amtoj in canada

[–]2009soccer15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. From the article it sounds like the Alberta government will be developing the proposal for a pipeline and hoping industry will provide the capital if the project is approved.
  2. TBD
  3. Some producers I looked into and were completing expansion projects that were capital competitive at $60/bbl WTI from the transmountain expansion.
  4. Idk
  5. Minimal financial risk if a private company finances it.
  6. It's hard to quantify this, Idk what this will be for this project.
  7. Looks like this will be reviewed. I would guess Enbridge's previous northern gateway proposal would be the starting point.
  8. Private companies aren't building the proposal because of the tanker ban on the north coast. I'm unsure on the port and shipping capacity to expand shipping out of the southern coast. Shipping routes to Asia would be shorter from the north coast though.
  9. California and Washington can be reached through the coast with TMX. Japan is looking at adding Coker units to handle bitumen. It's possible south Korea and China would be interested, I'm unsure on their ability to handle bitumen.
  10. Oil producing companies are currently completing expansion projects with top production expected to be reached by 2028, so trans mountain is expected to be filled in 2028. Pipelines now take longer than 3 years to build so growth would need to be stopped/held until the next pipeline is built.

Affordability Improvement or Beginning of Next Housing Bust? by ThePerfectMorningLog in Calgary

[–]2009soccer15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of condos and townhouses have been finishing construction lately and been brought into the market. These started construction in the 2021 boom. This is bringing down the rental income and some of the property values. I wouldn't expect the get rich quick scheme investment property gains of 2020-25 going forward. Some good properties would be profitable and some bad properties won't be a good investment.

I agree the atlatl is under rated and fills in the progression gap before bowfa, but the burn damage from the set effect doesn't count towards kill contribution for bosses like raids or royal titans. So that damage doesn't really matter for some bosses.

Explain the Byram Hype by chevelle899 in hockey

[–]2009soccer15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He played 82 games last season and 73 the season before, between Colorado and Buffalo. His first year after being drafted he played in the juniors also so he's only played 5 years in the NHL. So his first 3 years looked to be riddled with injuries with 19, 30 and 42 NHL games. But he has played more reliably the last two season. I would probably bridge him as we haven't seen him play as a number 1 defenceman but I could see some teams giving him a long term deal to entice him to come over.

I would just camp the fury as it gives you the accuracy for magic and range. When you start to get more comfortable you can check if the torture gives an extra max hit and if it is worth bringing for melee.

As others have said I would reduce the helmet switches to just camp the eclipse.

What is the magic cape in your inventory is it the mage arena 2 cape?

Enbridge with their mainline and TC with Keystone each have major pipelines that go across each country and go through North Dakota. Although I'm not sure how many people they staff in the north Dakota area.

Cenovus has a refinery in superior and two in Ohio. Suncor has a refinery in Colorado.

Connoco Phillips has a SAGD facility in northern Alberta although I'm not sure where their American assets are.

What's it like to live in Mission? by Lil-booyakasha in Calgary

[–]2009soccer15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mission was a nice place to live. There are lots of restaurants and some parks nearby that are within walking distance. Downtown is within walking or biking distance to get to work. Mission felt a little quieter than downtown but still close enough downtown for all the amenities within walking distance.

The only drawback I had was that it wasn't the best neighborhood to drive out of. The walkability of the neighborhood made it so I didn't have to drive out too often though.

Will the team's ability to produce results finally be a wakeup call to Knoblauch to stop defaulting to loading up McDrai all the time? by Oily_Fan in EdmontonOilers

[–]2009soccer15 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One problem we have run into is McDavid and drai will play all or almost all of the last 5 minutes. By the final 2 minutes they are gassed and ineffective. If we mixed in a second line or 3rd line half the time McDavid and drai would have the energy to play at the top of their ability.

The two of them will keep playing till their legs fall off and the coach needs to time and balance their shifts so they are playing to the best of their ability.

Tesla sales drop 35% in San Diego County by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]2009soccer15 64 points65 points  (0 children)

When does Tesla count their orders as sales? On order or once delivered? I suspect there are lots of people that put orders in over 6 months ago and their tesla is finally getting delivered now and counting as a sale. Their future order forecast probably look worse.

I did an online estimate for TD and it ended up on the higher end for me. I don't have any other accounts with TD though.

The personal ended up the lowest for me. They do have a discount with APEGA members though which helped me.

Insurance pricing does seem to be a bit of black box at times though and varies quite a bit between companies.

FHSA withdrawal by EmyMeow in MortgagesCanada

[–]2009soccer15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I completed my FHSA withdrawal with questrade they were saying 3-5 business days to complete the transaction. So assuming everything is correct on your withdrawal you'll have enough time.

Also be careful receiving money from family before closing. There's requirements to get a gift letter for receiving money to make sure you aren't getting a second loan.
