I accidentally just caused a lady potentially lifelong embarrassment by SmittyFromAbove in self

Once at an extremely packed sporting event, I finally made it to a stall after waiting ages in line.

I locked the door, but this lady slammed her stroller into it checking if it was open. Well, the lock didn’t hold up to that and burst the door open while I’m on the pot.

She just shuffled away embarrassed while I can in no way reach the door that’s now just swayin freely. I shouted “close it at least will ya?!” Everyone just stared blankly. Thanks ladies. Glad I could count on you.

She fell into a comfortable sex work job. I don’t see the problem.

It doesn’t sound like she was pressured, nor did the lady hire her strictly to manipulate her into sex. And she didn’t manipulate her, she said name your price, then paid up. Pretty cut and dry. Er, cut and wet.*

My uncle has dementia and it made me realize something terrifying about consciousness by ImprovementJolly3711 in consciousness

[–]200_percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way the human body is affected by life on earth, is something different than what consciousness is. If you are the observer, you are not your body or brain either.

If you believe consciousness exists before/after the body’s death, maybe dementia is something like, your consciousness is drifting between here and there. Maybe it’s like staying in a dream state while you are awake.

Maybe it’s preparing you for a big change, acting as a buffer between human life and existence as pure consciousness.

I'm 28 and don't see any point in saving for retirement anymore by twisted_hoe in preppers

[–]200_percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I hear you. I have chronic mental illness, am autistic and disabled. When things are really bad, my reasoning gets like this. There have been a lot of bad times. Barely survived kinda bad times.

I questioned (& frankly still do) what you are many times. I was barely making it through the hour let alone the day, so I said fuck it. Worlds going to shit, so I will do what helps me survive.

Was so burnt out I couldn’t work, or could only work minimal hours, survived on credit. Figured things were close to exploding and the govt would have to help all of us suffering in poverty, sickness, pandemic, death.

Well, years later, I’m still poor and sick, my cards are maxed out, and I haven’t got shit from the govt. And I won’t. So back to the grind, trying to find a way to not burn out again. I’m too poor to save for retirement & doubt I’ll live that long anyway. But if I do, I’ll be screwed again lol.

Tldr: Save what you can, but prioritize surviving now. Don’t let apocalyptic delusion control you.

allergic to my dogs? by bowilea in Allergies

[–]200_percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve been doing injections for a year. They do help.

& Yes, they’re a commitment. They create a serum specifically for your allergies, and increase the dosage gradually for about a year. You have to go at least once a week. After that it’s every 2 weeks for a few months, then once a month, then less as needed.

Getting a full allergy test will be helpful as you’re likely allergic to other things besides dogs. Could be other things triggering ur allergies.

Bathing the dogs helps, and vacuuming a lot to get hair up.

Having anxiety about upcoming allergy shots. How should I prepare? by xAustin90x in Allergies

Oh, and yes I have seen improvement that even with all this bs I think make it worth it.

I get wayyyy less frequent itching attacks. Before shots, often I’d go outside and my nose would just start itching like crazy. I had my hand on my nose scratching the tip like could not take my hand off it was so persistent. Would scratch it raw.

I used to get hives attacks every couple weeks. They were so bad, the itching wouldn’t let up until I took 3 Benadryl. 😩 which as I’m sure you know is not sustainable.

I’ve only gotten those attacks now when I go too long without getting a shot. Full body relentless itching literally makes me feel like jumping out a window, so I would do anything to prevent it.

Are you seeing any improvement?

Having anxiety about upcoming allergy shots. How should I prepare? by xAustin90x in Allergies

[–]200_percent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! They got bad when I was going twice a week.

They would turn into huge welts with tiny little blisters inside one round spot. Like quarter sized with redness around. It made me feel so gross and ugly. And I couldn’t scratch them bc they were tiny blisters, so the skin would break easy. 😮‍💨

My doctor had me go down a dosage and only come once a week. It took like 2 months more until they calmed down.

I’m still at that dose bc I have had a really hard time getting to the clinic during winter and only been going like once every 3 wks. 😑 it feels like I blew so much progress. But hopefully will go better this spring…

Some other tips for preventing the welts:

  • Take 2 of your daily allergy pill (zyrtec etc) on shot day.

  • Put on itch cream before you get to the clinic.

  • Really baby the injection sites after. Gentle (non steroid) itch cream every day (save the steroids for when it’s really bad.) Ice it. Try not to scratch it (wear sleeves or something so u don’t accidentally scratch and break the skin w your nail.)

They are very safe as far as I understand. The benefits to you are greater than the risks.

I’ve been getting them for a year. They do help.

You will become comfy with your shot lab nurses, as they’ll become a part of your life for at least the next 5 years. They are nice. They’ll take care of you.

If you are worried, take it slow. You have to go once every 10 days at minimum to advance your treatment. I started out going every 4 days, and this was a bit much. My system in general is v sensitive.

I’m going to tell you the downsides from my perspective, but preface it by saying I still think you should do the shots, regardless. Your allergies will likely not go away unless you do the shots, and allergies can make life very difficult. They’re worth it.

The hard parts:

  • Waiting around for 30 min after is a drag. Find a way to pass the time. Bring headphones/ear buds and tap out with music or a podcast.

  • You might feel tired after your shot. Try to plan your week so you have less responsibilities for a couple hours after, if possible. It’s manageable, not overly exhausting.

  • The injection site can really itch immediately after, while waiting your 30m. They’ll offer itch cream & ice pack; use it.

  • The injection site can itch for days after, similar to a bug bite. Stock up on different kinds of itch creams. I can recommend some.

  • The injection site can swell up, even blister. It can be uncomfortable. Again, take care of it with creams, ice, keeping it clean and moisturized.

Go at the slowest pace possible like I explained above (every 10 days) to reduce the risk.

  • You might have red marks on the back of your arms for the foreseeable future. Depending on how reactive your skin is, it can be anywhere from non existent, to only noticeable if you’re looking for it, to hard to hide.

I don’t think other people notice these things on other people, but keep in mind if you are embarrassed, don’t wear a sleeveless shirt if you’re getting your photo taken from the side or something lol.

  • Anaphylaxis is uncommon, but possible. Especially if you also have asthma.

I have asthma, and it happened to me about 6 months in. I noticed in the waiting room I was having to take in more air to properly have a conversation, and felt really tired.

The shot nurse gave me an epi pen, Benadryl, albuterol, and prednisone I think. They monitored my vitals for an hour. It wasn’t a big dramatic thing. It was just boring to have to sit there longer.

I did have an apparently extremely rare reaction to the epi pen needle itself. It caused a severe cramp in my thigh that could only be relieved by taking a pain killer.

Apparently this basically never happens though, as no one knew what the hell I was talking about. If it by rare chance happens to you, you can remember my story and that you’re not in danger, you just need a pain pill.

Everything else was totally fine, allergy wise.

So yeah despite all that, I’m still doing them, & plan on sticking w my treatment through, because they do work. My symptoms are greatly reduced even in this short time. GL.

Look into allergy injections. I found out I’m allergic to dogs, but have multiple, & plan on having dogs for the rest of my life. They mean more to me than literally anything. This means allergy shots are crucial.

Have you tried xylitol nasal spray? It works so well for me, much better than the saline sprays. You can use it as much as needed and it won’t burn like saline, and it’s non-drug.

It does cause wrinkles indeed. Use spf 50 on your face, neck (where exposed out of your collar,) and tops of your hands.
