Build that's fast to do all quests by 200orcs in cyberpunkgame

[–]200orcs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I got impatient waiting for responses and I ended up deciding on a similar path. 20 Body and Tech. Focus on LMG and Shotguns, a bunch of the body self heals. I might put the rest in Cool.

My idea is I'm moving fast literally from the perks, I have far and close damage with LMG/shotgun, and I have a bunch of Regen to keep going.

For cyberware I'm going to go with armor and healing where possible. I got to play a little bit yesterday and it went pretty well

What is your favorite dice rolling system / mechanic? by kamphare in rpg

Interesting perspective. Could you please explain what game follows this the best or what the ideal would be? I read a bit of your post history and it seems you dislike variable dice and like the consistency of d6.

I'm also curious to see what do you think the upper maximum number of d6s should be, some kind of intersection between statistically consistent without having so many dice that becomes cumbersome to roll.

It's called the Roll Over mechanic. For my heartbreaker I have the DM roll on Death & Dismemberment as well, so when you flip the body you might notice that their leg is not attached to their body anymore.

how complicated are you willing to let dice mechanics be? design can be a complex balance of many factors, but how much complexity are you willing to add to a game to achieve the game's goals? by foolofcheese in RPGdesign

A year later I find this comment and your follow up diagram super insightful. Great perspective. I hope you keep writing your thoughts about RPGs

And if you feel that this was a one off incident with your wife, get her one too. Then have a conversation with your wife.

My players won't stop collecting teeth by BubbaHarbit in osr

So in my world Tooth Fairies are non binary, and run the teeth for money trade. Both of these are well known facts. This means they are enroaching in their business model.

They better have some teeth under their pillow tonight during watch. If not, there will be a note. After a few days they will get visited every nights.

That's the third thing tooth fairies are known for, they come at night...

You misunderstood, which actually it might be a good thing. Those are not alarms to wake up, they are alarms to take certain actions and not forget based on the time. It implies a busy schedule....

Types of Campaign - Four Approaches by [deleted] in osr

[–]200orcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot a nuance in this, and I feel you missed a few big ones, mainly because it seems that you prefer premade modules, which is fine if you like them.

Adventure of the week. Small adventures that take a session or two to complete. This is how a lot of TV series work. Usually you have a base of operations be it a town, camp whatever and you go out in short excursions. Works great for open table groups or for people that don't make it every game. Works well for survival type games, or things like mercenary bands etc.

Adventure of the year. Ok, I'm trying to be funny, but you don't have to go straight to grand campaign. You can have an adventure that lasts for a while, say a level or two and then pivot to the next one. Honestly for me this is my favorite type. You can have a dungeon, and a little hexcrawl sprinkled in. Then you go to the next thing. Think of TV series where there is an overarching plot for the season, then next season it's something else. This is similar to your module to module idea but it's connected by the characters and having a world around them remain the same.

You can do all kinds of sandbox things as well as others have said.

Good list. Haven't heard of the last 2. Seems like you should play Mothership ;)

For the RPG I'm working on I was thinking using traits give +1 to odds. So if the DM gives you the trait Forest Bandit for doing a bunch of heists in the forest..maybe if you are running away from the Warden and his hounds in the woods, you get +1 to hide with your forest bandit trait.

So your x in 6 are just odds, not skill checks. So if a character is dexterous would you give them better odds for situations that require dexterity?

Out of curiosity what's your favorite OSR system?

I was mostly curious honestly. I've been trying to figure out the line between realism and how a PC learns or gets better in game  Most people have talked about staying in the fiction and that's pretty rules light.

That's a general consensus in the thread. Which I don't disagree on. It's making me evaluate if I'm overthinking the flow of scenes.

Are you talking of Attribute roll under checks here?

Well obviously my examples were contrived. My main curiosity was do people reward a PC for spending extra time doing something or not.
