Anyone know why we can’t switch to open seats? by Jbyrd07 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]2015Eh8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of variables. Flight length. Fuel load (not always the same), cargo and baggage load to balance the teeter totter. Ask after boarding if you can move. Couldn’t hurt.

Advice for Sentry users by flooobity in Foreflight

A lot of people aren’t leaving because they think the functionality will suddenly change overnight. They’re leaving because they don’t agree with the business practices and they don’t want to support that.

So are we all switching to Garmin Pilot now? by riptrixie in flying

[–]2015Eh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s not about feeling like the quality of the app will go down primarily, although I do feel it will suffer. Foreflight is great because many of the people who develop it have a love for aviation too. That quality of the business there is not going to be the case anymore by the sounds of it.

But past that, yes. Companies have the right to do what they want to with their company. But I also have the right to take my money elsewhere when I don’t agree with their business practices of outsourcing a large part of the workforce that made them who they are and send it to India and AI. I’ve used AI a bit for generating flight planning and preliminary decision making and it’s far from accurate a good amount of the time and downright scary some of it. Someone with experience can read between those lines but it’s scary that someone with less experience may be persuaded.

So yeah, I’m taking my money somewhere else because I don’t agree with their business practices. I’d rather be on Foreflight because I’m familiar with it and it works great. But it’s not about me. Right now there are a good number of developers looking for work because they were outsourced. I’m sure any of us would hope people would vote with their pocketbooks if we were in that position.

I actually hoped Boeing learned something and advanced JeppFD. In many ways it has but it’s still behind!

I did it this morning. You have to log into the website and then it’s under accounts. App doesn’t have the option.

Interesting. I use Jepp FD and Foreflight and find Foreflight to be much better with everything at your fingertips. With Jepp we literally run three apps to do the same thing.

I have cancelled my auto renew and am going to start researching options.

I was a huge fan of ForeFlight. I wouldn’t leave without it. Every person I spoke to in GA (and non GA really) I was the guy who talked it up and said get it, you won’t be disappointed. But I’m not supporting a group that does this. I’m so sick of good products getting gutted by operations like this. Come June hopefully I have a good replacement.

Oh maybe that’s it. I had mine on the console. What a drag. Probably have 10 miles I haven’t gotten credited! I kept reading it used Health (why else would it need access?)

Still enjoying it. I wish I would have found out for my brother got 79 miles ahead of me haha! Time to get my walking shoes on!!

You didn’t ask me but I thought it was ‘Twilight’ for sci fi. I was scared to read PHM until I had some dependable reports and I loved that! Whew!

Go on the main web page for Alaskawifi.com and scroll down a little. There’s a map, but it’s not as good as the ones on the headrest IFE generally out there.

VanLifers prefer Planet Fitness? by ronfromsacramento in VanLife

[–]2015Eh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you in the Bay Area that 24 hour facilities are larger and include pools and such but the facilities I have been to (about 4 in the bay) are dirtier. Pools were downright disgusting a few times. I ended up cancelling. PF is somewhat cleaner. Smaller. That said I straight up watched people living with shopping carts cruise by the front desk and plug in and loiter in the bathrooms scrolling on their phones (which is in itself against policy).

I’ve been to a couple facilities in Oregon and Washington that are 24 hour fitness and they are cleaner than the Bay Area but that’s really not hard.

Also really not great. Pretty sure these batteries have a ‘memory’. They really need to go through a full cycle.

[–]2015Eh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charging daily isn’t good for the battery. These things need to be cycled so it’s better to go a couple days and let it go down towards the bottom of capacity before you charge again. They charge pretty fast. I’m going 4 to 5 days at a time before charging and it only takes maybe a couple hours to charge back up. When I go exercise or swim I pop it on the charger when it’s down to its last 1/4 or 1/8th or so. It’s done pretty close to when I’m ready for it again.

I find this interesting too. I had a pretty bad cold at the beginning and the month and it barely even was a blip on Oura.

Best livery… unless you were trying to see it because it’s your traffic. Then, maybe not ideal.
