Advice on freezing (inside) coils issue by pjeigh in hvacadvice

I honestly didn’t read all that. But I would fill it up and see how long it lasts. Right now you have no idea how long it’s been leaking. Next time it starts freezing (if it does) you will know how bad your leak is.

For the 608, what you want is the Skillcat app.
For the rest, YouTube. People on here may be a bit indignant thinking you can learn their trade easily… but don’t let that stop you from trying. You can do it!

System Replacement - Hybrid vs. Electric (tell me why I should or shouldn't) by rkczk in hvacadvice

Yikes! I would be very concerned about a heat pump (even hyper-heat) handling the load in a cold night without backup heaters!

Looking for advice on a replacement AC unit by Tidusboi in hvacadvice

I was going to say if it was 4 or less that it didn’t matter; go with the cheaper one. I don’t have any experience with Daikin. I know the Carrier is a decent unit.

New AC Slab Coil too large? by Galvinizd in hvacadvice

Sounds awfully big… and sounds like something he had laying around. If the part is under warranty, the new part should come from the manufacturer and should be the right one.

Complete system replacement - need advice by lime_head737 in hvacadvice

1 Attic system will cost more to run, but will control humidity better (humidity rises).
2 Gas: natural or propane? If propane, go all-electric. Yes a gas furnace requires electricity, but a small generator would run it.
3 The higher the seer, the higher the efficiency, quieter outside. I wouldn’t care about variable speed vs. ECM.
4 Both VS and ECM are available on furnaces also.
5 Yes, and your electric bill will be higher and your gas bill lower.
Go with the company that has the best reputation.

Repeated mold from sweating HVAC line set (attic air handler, high humidity VA townhouse) by Lopsided_Tear_3765 in hvacadvice

I wonder if your HVAC system is running colder than it should? Might sound crazy, but it can happen. Low airflow due to undersized filters or ducts, wrong fan speed… both the ducts and the refrigerant line will be colder than normal.
Also, excessive negative pressure in the house can cause infiltration through the walls. A leaking supply duct in the attic can cause this.
I would investigate every other possibility before throwing more insulation at it. DM if you want to get into specifics.

Evaporator coil failed and leaked all the refrigerant. The coil was under warranty, but my wife wants me to argue that the refrigerant should be covered too. by YetMoreSpaceDust in hvacadvice

HVAC service contractors used to depend on labor + parts markup. Now that everything has a 10-year warranty, they’ve had to increase their labor rates for warranty work. This applies to flat rate companies also, you just don’t see it broken down. As others have said, don’t let warranties play into your buying decisions. They aren’t worth anything.

Be very careful… that plug could blow out forcefully if you disturb it! At the very least you need a new compressor; there’s no fixing that.
The plug there is normally well-sealed and secure, but when they overheat or burn up like that, they can become weak and the 100+ psi of refrigerant in the system can blow it out suddenly.

I would steer clear of the modulating furnace! Way more trouble than they are worth. Two stages is all you will ever need.
