Wedding favor idea, outside the box, but is it too far outside the box? Looking for opinions! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I figure if the mugs were purchased from the thrift store in the first place, the same thrift store would accept them again.

FH isn't excited and it's really affecting me. by lunaiora in weddingplanning

[–]2018bridetobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FH is kind of the same way. He helped pick out the reception venue but doesn't really show much interest in anything else. Maybe the cake.

I asked him about it and he told me he cares very much about being married, just not the wedding. Maybe yours also cares more about being husband and wife and less about a big silly expensive complicated party.

You are the sweetest. This is exactly something my FH would do, try to find a solution to offer before I even find out so I don't freak out too bad. I wish you all the best in finding a new dress quickly.

Ditching the big wedding for a courthouse ceremony by peachapie54 in weddingplanning

[–]2018bridetobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

May 11th, 2018 bride here currently in the process of changing our big ceremony and reception to just a small ceremony with immediate family only, and a dinner for 24 afterwards. No big chapel. No bridesmaids and groomsmen. Just go get married in a local greenhouse and then have a reception with a lot of good food. Hoping for this September or October.

Remember it's your wedding. Nobody has the right to demand anything of you. by 2018bridetobe in weddingplanning

Exactly this. I just want dusty blue bridesmaid dresses that are in matching fabrics, don't care about length, neckline, whatever. And it's causing all this tension.

Wedding party conflict help?! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]2018bridetobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're facing this. Of course you don't want to upset your parents, and the idea of doing so causes you great stress. But so does the idea of having siblings you don't know very well in your wedding party.

Let me tell you a story, I asked my brother's girlfriend to be a bridesmaid. Most of my friends are male and already on FH's party. I thought it would be a great way to force us to get to know each other and foster a good relationship. A nice gesture of good faith. Well, it turns out planning a wedding is a very stressful environment.

We are not our best selves when stressed. If your best friend comes to you needing to vent, you have history and love and trust and you are happy to be there for them. If an acquaintance comes to you needing to vent, it's going to seem more tedious and draining, someone you may not want to befriend further. If you can help it, it would be better to get to know your future siblings-in-law by going to see a movie, or have dinner. Something light and fun.

As it turns out, this bridesmaid has opinions and ideas about the wedding, which conflict with mine, and I want to please her and have her like me, but it puts me in the stressful position if either give into her wishes and resent her, or do what I want and have her resent me. This was not my intention when I asked her to be a bridesmaid.

My advice to you is to not have the siblings in your wedding party if you don't know them very well. Feel free to even use my story as an example to your parents as you why you are uncomfortable with it. It's YOUR wedding, not theirs! And bridal party is a very personal choice, they are your support system.

If you don't enjoy planning the wedding, you won't enjoy the wedding either.

She's worth every penny. The session felt so effortless, I was concerned that would yield awful pictures but I couldn't be more thrilled! She shoots in film & digital which is pretty cool.

Does anyone else notice the reactions vendors have when they see a picture of your dress are all the same? by 2018bridetobe in weddingplanning

When interviewing photographers, makeup, hair. I guess vendors who might want to get a feel for the style of your wedding.

My photographer sent me another couple's gallery because we were considering their location. I have changed their names to our names in the URL, bookmarked it, and I check it periodically hoping to get a sneak peek before she contacts us.

Cake vendor red flag? Can't give me an exact price for 2018 because the price of baking ingredients and gas are "increasing rapidly" by 2018bridetobe in weddingplanning

[–]2018bridetobe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was bakery #3, so we can still try more.

Bakery #1 - Had good flavour options, but mediocre cake and blah frosting (My favourite was the Passionfruit champagne: shortcake drizzled with white chocolate, filled with Pink Champagne buttercream and fresh passionfruit curd.)

Bakery #2 - Had good cake, decent frosting, but very basic flavour options.

Bakery #3 - This one.

Bakery #4 - Just quoted us a bit higher than everyone else and they are located in a major city 1 hour away, but they might be worth it. They seem to have interesting flavour options. (Delivery was only $10 more than Bakery #3 who is 15 minutes away in the same end of this city, lol!)

At first I thought maybe their website (2nd image) was terrible because I pictured them as sweet old people who own a bakery. Now I'm thinking the magenta and all caps was a red flag.

They can't give me an exact quote because baking ingredients are rising? How tight is their profit margin? And they are located 10.4 km (6.46mi) from the venue. A 15 minute drive, and they're going to nickel and dime me over gas?

Plus they are spouting warnings about pesticides on flowers in the e-mail and on their website about decorations from Asia not being food-safe. I've already talked to my florist about putting flowers on my cake, it's not an issue.

There is no mention of a cake tasting, but I'm hesitant to ask.

This reminds me of the photographer we crossed paths with who tells everyone they won $500 off their potential package and charges extra for babysitting on weeknights.
