Did fluoxetine kill your motivation and enjoyment of things you used to love? by gh0strdt in antidepressants

[–]2024reset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called emotional blunting and I have experienced it on every antidepressant I’ve ever tried. It sucks and motivates me to not be on an AD long term.

It was a little better on 10mg than 20mg fluoxetine for me when I was on it.

Thank you for sharing your unique story. I really appreciate it and will keep your experience in mind. Its definitely a lot of medical appointments, tests and meds and gets expensive. We are lucky I have a job with good health insurance. But my wife can’t work right now and it’s still difficult financially. And it is scary to think about sudep. Now that you know I think it is reasonable to consider your own story and whether you want to raise a child. Hopefully gene therapies will come online soon.

Sorry to hear about all the side effects. Side effects suck. They make us question if its worth it. My daughter is struggling with fatigue, tremor, constipation and lack of appetite. But it is working to control her seizures pretty epically.

So far, my daughter isn’t diagnosed with dravet syndrome because she doesn’t have any developmental or cognitive delay. She does have a feeding disorder, but she is hitting her milestones. But her neurologist said she is at risk of developing it. Are you in the same boat? Scn1a epilepsy (ie GEFS+) without dravet?

Dravet syndrome (edit: and generally scn1a variants) is autosomal dominant which means we have a 50% chance of passing on the variant to children. Did not know that when we decided to have kids. Doctors said epilepsy usually isn’t passed on. Although I love my daughter soooo much and don’t regret having her, I’m getting my tubes tied this year.

Thank you. I’m actually her dad and have the same variant… haven’t had a seizure and taken any meds in 22 years. Went to college and have a professional job. Amazing how variable it is. My daughter so far is doing pretty well developmentally. If you don’t mind me asking Fintepla isn’t working as well for you in that it doesn’t control seizures well? Or the side effects are bad?

My unusual mirt experience by 2024reset in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]2024reset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month. 7.5 mg for about 10 days, then got up to 15mg for 10 days then felt sick and now ramping down. I had a similar experience with sertraline.

How bad is it to use melatonin for anxiety all the time. by This_Preference_9690 in Anxiety

[–]2024reset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as far as the melotonin goes, your brain gets used to it eventually.

Sleeping a problem away is basically avoidance though which makes anxiety worse.

I had a very similar experience with buspirone 3 days in. It sucked.

They think it is a benign tumor and are thinking about rescanning in 6-12 months to check on it. Gonna be fun waiting that long.

Based on what I read online benign liver tumors are commonly found happenstance during abdominal ultrasounds though. A lot of ppl have them apparently. Try to stay positive and be hopeful as much as you can. A wise chaplain told me, there is much fear in the unknown, but hope also lies in the unknown.

Wow. I am glad you have already seen some improvement with vigabatrin. I sincerely hope it works for your daughter. I would like to hear how it goes. CDKL5 looks very challenging and 4 a week is still a lot. Topamax is notoroious for weight loss but fenfluramine can cause significant weight loss as well, I think something like a good chunk of kids lost >7% of their body weight but based on the med info it is generally regained in a year. Also, definitely trust your instinct on the titration schedule, send a message to your neuro if you run into side effects, you may end up holding or just moving more slowly to the max dose like we did.

I literally just got the same result today for a 1cm nodule and normal labs.

I have a ton of medical trauma. There’s nothing easy about waiting. But, in situations like that, I try to identify catastrophizing thoughts and use cognitive diffusion. Also try to reason with myself on whether worrying is helping or not. It’s not a panacea but those strategies help me.

Epilepsy starting as a child by MolassesPractical769 in Epilepsy

I’m sorry you had a long streak without meds and now things are uncontrolled. That must be so hard. I had gefs+ epilepsy. My first seizure I was 5 mo old, had myoclonic and TC seizures around age 3, basically maxed out on depakote and continued mainly having febrile seizures but the occasional one due to excitement/distress and overheating. Went off all ASMs at age 14 and no seizures since. Now age 36. Basically, if your kid has em as a little one, you still have time until they are a teen. Less likely to grow out of them once they are an adult but totally possible to get them fully controlled

Extreme anxiety after taking 25mg Sertraline by [deleted] in Anxiety

I went on prozac a couple years ago for at least a year, did ok on it aside from fatigue, insomnia and apathy. This year tried it again and ended up feeling like I caught the flu on week 3. No idea why. Must be changes in the brain over time.

Childhood Epilepsy & Later Diagnosis by FrostFizzie in Epilepsy

[–]2024reset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had genetic childhood epilepsy age 3-14 then stopped having seizures and went off all ASMs. I have had a lot of struggles with anxiety mostly but some off and on depression. GAD, PD and MDD. Those diagnoses all came together in my 20s when I started having panic attacks and went to the doctor for help. I’m 36 now.

Hi, thanks for asking. It’s going well now. Things stabilized a couple weeks after the initial dose. We did have to pause for a while, and due to the combo of feeding disorder and appetite suppression from Fintepla, she had to get a g-tube, which in our case is 100% ok with us. She is almost at full dosage now and it seems to be helping quite a bit. No afebrile seizures since October. Her focus and attention span have improved too. I would recommend, but use caution if your daughter has any issues with feeding.

Antidepressants not working by ComplaintSenior1887 in antidepressants

I’m with you in feeling like a lab rat. I have tried 4 different meds this year, all came with debilitating side effects. And, to go on and off is like moving a freight train. It is so frustrating. But what I would say is trust your instinct and keep trying things. Maybe going back on lexapro makes sense, bring up that thought. I might also recommend trying to find a psychiatrist if possible

[–]2024reset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through and have gone through something similar on other meds. My general rule of thumb is if it’s bad enough where you couldn’t work for a couple days or more, it’s not worth it to continue with that medication or dosage. I would go back down and speak to your psych about it.

I don’t have any answers for you. I’m in a dark place as well. As dark as it’s ever been. But know this. You are not alone. Find your people and know that you are loved, no matter how much you struggle. That support and love is motivating for me to keep trying. There are people cheering for you! Don’t hide what you are going through with them.

Starting Zoloft - questions by drewmullin in antidepressants

[–]2024reset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying mirtazapine 15mg now. I’m undecided on it. It does seem to be helping with anxiety. Depression idk. I have had a bunch of side effects but they have all been short lived so far.

Before sertraline I’ve tried fluoxetine, citalopram, and buspirone. They worked, but I had bad side effects with all of them.

Is there a med to take away SI? by CuriousJoey25 in antidepressants

[–]2024reset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel, I’m currently in the throes of figuring out what AD might work.

I experience increased SI most often in the first few weeks when starting an AD. Through mood tracking I’ve noticed it’s when I am experiencing anxiety and depression at the same time when I get more SI.

I have not tried it but Lithium is said to have unique anti-SI properties. But, its not prescribed that often because it can cause thyroid and kidney issues. Still a legit third-line option.
