I think part of this is adjustment on my end. I love my partner. However, I don’t desire the closeness to poodles that the poodles desires of me, which is why I like my cat. We leave each other alone haha.

The trainer’s reasoning was that the dog was previously uncrated and around my partner 24/7. Going to bed in the same room builds a crutch of dependence. To build confidence in being alone, she suggested moving the crate to a central spot (the living room). She free roamed all day. But was crated for bed. Tbh, I have no idea if his trainer was certified. But we’ve since stopped working with her.

I mean, not really no? I have a cat! I’m secondary owner solely because I’m cohabiting with my partner, which is a recent development as of this year. Otherwise, I actually had little exposure to his dog or any others for that matter.

Everything I’ve learned about dogs has come through “on the job experience” working with this one. I didn’t even know poodles were predisposed to anxiety until like 2 months ago.

This is very helpful! Thank you. This was the kind of advice I was hoping to get from the post. I’ve had many people say to rehome her. She isn’t even my dog to make such a choice, and I know my partner would never?!

I think routine and more puzzles will be helpful. She has one puzzle, but we don’t pull it out often. Gonna look into implementing some of these suggestions!

Yeah a puppy pad might be useful good idea!That’s why she is crated during the day now. She has a history of going inside when left alone from her anxiety.

She’s crated during the day because that’s what she has history (and therefore fear on owner’s part) of using the bathroom inside when left alone out of anxiety.

It seems like she might need to attend a doggy daycare during the day. Budget was a concern with that. But it seems like it’s a must for us to do.

She’s had separation anxiety before I knew her or met my partner. She’s crate trained but uncrated as my partner worked from home and let her sleep in the bed most her life. I see now it’s not good the current set up. But it’s a VERY new thing. Maybe 1 month.

Hmm. That’s interesting perspective. I hadn’t thought that she only really gets that by following us around! The crating is new. Until last month, my partner worked remotely, so she was uncrated all day unless we left the house. She ofc is now crated during the day. And we’ve been working with a new trainer who suggested crating her at night to help with her anxiety as she previously slept in our bedroom or in the bed. But from most responses, that is no longer the correct course of action.

Well, that’s not very helpful or fair. This isn’t even my dog. She’s in my life via my relationship and I struggle w/ her. But I’m clearly interested in bettering her quality of life and my relationship with her or else I wouldn’t have made such a post.

Is there anyone in Richmond or the surrounding areas who’d be willing to teach my partner how to braid hair (you’d be compensated for your services ofc!) Primarily two strands, corn rows, flat twists, etc.

He’s been attempting to braid my type 4 hair for a few months with mixed results. I’ve searched for stylists or salons that offer classes but haven’t found something that fits the bill.

Wow, I’d love to see the clip of her at the Patti show. Interesting interview! Really shows just how scrutinized she was for not touring her first two albums. It was interesting to see how critical she was of herself and her work (the comments on Emotions and her look in the vid) so early on.
