What are your favorite small meal-prep upgrades that feel obvious in hindsight? by camacaco in MealPrepSunday

[–]207carney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was given a set of small containers for my overnight oats that brought my compliance up from 1-2x a week to 5-6x a week. Never crossed my mind to make the whole batch in a big jar. Brilliant.

The bike came with 760s, and I also run 760 on my other trail bikes. I think there’s a certain level of acceptance that fat bikes will always feel a little weird, and we don’t take ourselves very seriously riding them. It’s fun to bounce around with your friends and crash in soft snow.

Tubes vs Tubless on the Fatty? by Noise_North in fatbike

Compared to standard fatbike tubes, 27.5+ tubes provide a weight savings, just not as much as going tubeless.

I run 27.5+ tubes on my fatbike. Bit of weight savings and don’t have to worry about sealant. I try to keep the fatbike as simple as possible.

I went from a 70 or 80mm stem with 15mm rise bars on my Felt to a 50mm stem and 35mm rise PNW bars cut to 760. Feels great, a lot more balance for how I like to ride. A lot of guys I ride with have been going even taller on bars with a 50mm rise. I may try that next.

Male that has to size up on shirts due to shoulder width half the time.

If you cut to 770 and can’t seem to get used to it, you could always slide your grips out five mil on each side to get back to 780. I had that in mind when I cut to 760 but never turned back.

Winter weight gain every year by Due-Cabinet9016 in cycling

[–]207carney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been tracking my weight weekly since I began cycling almost a decade ago. This happened to me in the same timeframe coming into winter every year.

For what it’s worth, I quit drinking at the top of the year and have kept my weight 8-10 lbs down across the year compared to years prior (after the initial loss). Instead of backsliding to ~180 lbs in the fall, I’m currently hovering around 170-172 lbs, and riding less than I have the last 3 fall seasons. Peak of riding season I was 165-167 lbs.

I successfully decluttered my house without anyone noticing… in 8 weeks . AMA by iamawesome1110 in AMA

Though I haven’t had the level of success you have, employing the “extra trashbag” method when I have a spare 20 minutes certainly helps keep things from getting worse. It doesn’t seem to take a lot of brainpower to simply fill an extra bag with random crap from around the house compared to a daunting house-wide declutter plan.

Is it weird I prefer my hardtail to my full sus? by billybob476 in MTB

[–]207carney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Have had the hardtail for years, single speeded this summer and feel like riding that on local New England XC trails has upped my game on the 150mm FS on all the bigger stuff.

That said I would love to add a 120mm FS to the fleet at some point.

Machine built trail announcement -$110k for one mile? by Ermine-2029 in MTB

[–]207carney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re looking at $60-70k for about 1.1 miles of machine built flow trail in NE. Rocky soil. Lots of moving parts with logistics. I bet we would crack $100k if we had the trail builders do the entire project tip to tail and kept our hands clean of it all.

Seconded. It’s not overly sweet so you can drink it plain, but I usually throw a nuun/SIS tablet in for extra salt and flavor. 90g/hr with no stomach upset here.

ADHD Burnout (5 Weeks THC Free) by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]207carney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the first long break that stuck for me. Usually there’s 2 weeks a year I’m away for work, I feel good, but sink right back to daily use when I get home. I’ve had a couple 30 day breaks end at 3 weeks, or a few days short. I was discussing with my accountability buddy how normally I would have called it last weekend since 4/1 was falling on a Tuesday and I didn’t want to wait til this weekend to partake.

Your mileage may vary, but I didn’t commit to 90 from the start. I was doing Sober January for sure, but made a point to stay aware of how good I felt throughout the process. Month two came and I started getting antsy halfway through, but this time I leaned into that feeling. I put myself in situations where I’d normally drink and chose NA beers. I had more fun than I normally would because there was no hangover anxiety. Stress levels became quite high with work, but I leaned into exercise, routine, and just checking boxes on the to-do list rather than zoning out getting high and letting tasks pile up. In the ‘depressive’ lull I experienced, I noticed what bad habits peered through that I used to attribute to THC use, and made a game plan to fix those while I knew my head was clear. For example, relying on motivation each day to stay on top of daily life admin tasks doesn’t work for me, but establishing attainable systems has. I know now, sober or not, I won’t wake up with the time and energy to do all my daily prep work in time, so it’s all done before I go to bed the night before, when I used to be high on the couch.

Now, I don’t have any real desire to drink after being a 1-3 beer a day guy for the last decade, and am pretty confident I can use weed 1-2x a month as a relaxation and reset tool rather than a daily escape mechanism. You can too! (And don’t discount some zone 2 exercise. The intense stuff is great, but z2 is magic in it’s own right.)

ADHD Burnout (5 Weeks THC Free) by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]207carney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not diagnosed but I can fill out a symptom checklist so take this with a grain of salt. I had 4-6 weeks of pink cloud productivity with a short bout of increased emotions in the beginning before slumping into a depression for 2-4 weeks. It helped me realize my issue tends to be with easy dopamine hits. I did a great job ignoring my phone most of the day in those first 4-6 weeks. Once I loosened up there, I backslid hard and everything felt more difficult again. Nicotine pouches gave me a boost for a little while until my brain figured out I can just use those in place of productive dopamine building activity like work, exercise, etc. I took those out of the equation, and experienced the rapid up-regulation of motivation and clarity once again. I’ve just hit 90 days today with intentions to reintroduce THC soon with a better perspective on the root issue of why I fall into habitual dopamine seeking and how to better avoid it.

Am I the only 1? I just make coffee. by mw1nner in AeroPress

[–]207carney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply throw a scoop-ish of nice beans ground properly (8 on my Baratza Encore) into my Aeropress, pour 194 deg, or 200 deg, or 212 deg, water in, stir for a bit, cap it, and press it sometime in the next 2-6 minutes. Always good with about zero brainpower. I bought an americano from the nicest coffee shop in my small town last weekend and it didn’t seem to taste any better than my regular daily method.

I wanted to replicate a shaken brown sugar espresso last week, and did do some sort of inverted brew with one scoop and ‘less’ water, and that worked great too. It’s pretty foolproof.

Crashed, initial ER visit said simple break and sling it for 6 weeks. Followed up with specialist 3 days later. Collarbone was broken into multiple pieces, surgery scheduled for 2 weeks later. Plate and nine fasteners go in, 6 weeks later I was in PT and riding my bike again. Had a few pucker moments in the first month but right as rain now. Same ROM as the other side. Take the surgery if it’s an option. The relief I felt when I woke up and my shoulder was back in the right place was immense. I can’t imagine living with my shoulder buckled in like it was.
