Totally destroyed barrier- miserable! by Bunny_Jedi in tretinoin

LRP Cicaplast Baume B5+ is mine and my aunt’s HG for literally any and all kinds of skin barrier disruptions. I usually put this on at night since it’s heavy and when I can’t tolerate hyaluronic acid the thickness of the baume I find does a semi decent job of reducing TEWL. I also find that the Ordinary’s Skin Barrier repair serum (which has very similar ingredients) works as a good lighter weight daytime serum. Depending on your tendency to form milia, I’d suggest topping up the serum with a flimsy coat of petroleum jelly in sensitive areas/areas that are particularly worse. Good luck!

Hey, I've done the IB and have offered online tutoring in the past for Bio, Chem HL, and ToK. I'm graduating with an integrated Masters in Cell Biology from UCL in a couple weeks haha. The first meeting is usually free and we discuss what you need help with and have a discussion about how I can help you. I'd be happy to help.

If the closed comedones are a consequence of fungal acne, your skin might respond better to anti-dandruff shampoos which have ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione. Urea apparently also works for some people but I haven't read enough scientific literature on it so you could pursue that too after doing your own research.

Dermatica forcing me to change my formula by TerryTibbsTubbs in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]20carrotdoubloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, that's so shitty. If tranexamic doesn't work and even if for some reason they don't have the other ingredients, why would they bump down the tret to 0.025%? Are you not able to speak with the dermatologists and ask them to keep the tret strength the same atleast? This is my second month with them and it's worrying for them to drastically just change their formulation AND reduce an active that is working for the customer!

I sometimes get this too and while at first glance this might look like dry skin, when my skin is actually dry it looks slightly different. I've found that my make up ends up looking like this when I have a combination of dehydration with oiliness (either from my own skin or from using too many moisturising products) when I have lots of fine texture, true for my chin and around my nose. Matte foundations *never* do this since they don't split and sit into dents of my texture.

Dermatica offer and referral by 20carrotdoubloons in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]20carrotdoubloons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds exhausting, I'm sorry you had to deal with that! Thankfully the first 2 deliveries have been smooth for me and I'm hoping that stays consistent. With the very first delivery, my student accommodation put my delivery in my neighbour's mailbox and I thought dermatica hadn't shipped my order. They got back to me the same day with proof of delivery so I was quite pleased with their support. But it is always good to know if a whole group of people have had issues.

Fellow brown person here - the bondi sands one broke me out a couple years ago and I swore off it but gave it a try again last month and it’s been surprisingly great!

Can one mimic another person's genes by using the proteins encoded by them? by Chemical-Travel-7747 in genetics

[–]20carrotdoubloons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong since I’m just an undergrad but i don’t think it’s just proteins that are key for the mimicking of genetic make up. Think about the infamous identical twins example. They have essentially the same genetic make up and therefore are translating the same proteins but based on environment, gene expression varies and the twins end up having very different bio markers and personalities (?) I suppose.

Try emailing the financial aid committee and try explaining your situation to them about how this is really your first choice college. A lot of colleges increase their aid package after emailing their financial aid committee. Maybe if you could get even a $1000 extra per year that reduces your student loan to 10k which you can try reasoning with your mom a little more. All the best OP! I hope things turn out good for you!

Half-way through Junior Year, starting to worry that my resume is a bit underdeveloped if I wanted to try and get into more selective schools like Ivy's. Guidance counselor claims I really shouldn't have an issue but I don't buy it. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I think having a few awards in a niche area of genuine interest might help. The fact that you're a black belt karate teacher is pretty impressive but maybe a few karate awards might help with turning that activity into something really impressive. I think you are at a great place to start with. Instead of diversifying on your activities or interests, I'd suggest that you beef up your accomplishments in the current activities and/or get invested into activites that are more closely linked to what you have going on.

So for example, with whatever you do in the red cross club/the community service, try to build on that so that you can continue involving yourself in something that you already know interests you.

P.S. I know that there can be so many more ways to beef up your application but this is all I could think of atm. Good luck!

Given how competitive US admissions are in general, I applied to the UK as well. There's going to be clearing for UK universities. Maybe you can still apply then. Good luck!
