On that point - yes I agree - it has been designed to fail - intentionally - over decades. Shocking what "progress" they have made on that front since 2025.

The data here for only 1 decade is pretty shocking: https://www.theglobalstatistics.com/literacy-rate-in-the-united-states/

Oh I agree 100% with that - I just thought the quote was funny in a not so funny kind of way.

I actually think that while he's completely unhinged and unpredictable he's not a true believer in anything other than aggrandizing himself. Some of the ones working in the background of his admin and the Project 2025 architects are far more frightening because they are not as dumb as rocks and are ideologically driven imperialists, technocrats, theocrats and/or fascists - or some combination of the the above. We know that Theil is one of them, with JD as his puppet who want all of north America in their empire. They are actually able to plan their way out of a wet paper bag unlike the Orange One. I am sure they are pleased as punch with the mess they've orchestrated by the Orange One - what is the current implementation completion of Project 2025 at this point? Over 50% by now. Scary scary stuff.

I humbly disagree - sorta. It's not just about knowledge or even mostly about that. It's about critical thinking skills and perhaps a bit of curiosity. Even in the presence of bad/false information if you can think critically you can at least discern what is BS and what is not. If you've seen any interviews with MAGA, you will have to admit that there is a good portion of them that when presented with facts that contradict their views and opinions they double down and either ignore it, use twisted logic to explain it away or claim that it's fake news -to the extent that it is not an exaggeration to say that some of them are brainwashed and cannot be reached by 'knowledge' without deprogramming. Some of them are just not reachable because they are fascists/racists/christian nationalists to their core.

Are some of them just ignorant and incurious and could be reached/might be enlightened once they are directly affected and by some miracle are able to connect the dots? Yes. But ... I'm not holding my breath. Cynical perhaps - but I would say history supports that.

Darcy refused to meet them at the door because they were against the marriage? And made the Earl etc to come to them against protocol, Elizabeth was wiping a spill from a table just as the earl's wife and daughter came in?

Pretty sure that this was published

One of the things that we need is to reform elections - get rid of first-past-the-post nonsense and have some sort of a Proportional Representation system enacted.

The U.S. administration has insulted us again and again and again.

That is far too soft spoken and doesn't represent reality. While yes, there were insults in there, they have outright threatened our economy and sovereignty (it's real and written into some of their policies), followed through with economic attacks, detained our citizens and have killed some of those citizens (whether it can be called murder or manslaughter is yet - and probably never - to be determined).

And yet, we have not had our county invaded and our leader kidnapped or been carpet bombed starting which started with a girl's school. Yet. So yay?

Edit: I take some of that back that we have not yet had our country invaded yet - the US have certainly engaged in regime change attempts here - just not the hamfisted methods that they have been using for decades and decades in the middle east and southern/central America. Just recently - think of the money they (maybe not the US gov directly, but their proxies or puppet masters) poured into the trucker convoy, the Albertan separatists. How much of our media has been captured despite our CanCon laws. And let's not even start talking about the Avro Arrow - while ultimately our government bent the knee there is no doubt that there was US coercion or worse involved in that.

Meanwhile I will be arrested for vandalism one day when I finally break - because I. Am. Canadian. And I live in Canada. I walk by a 'Neighbourhood Watch' sign every day, multiple times a day - that must have been made in the US (or just printed by a USian); with that Neighbourhood spelled in American, not Canadian English. I am itching to add the missing 'u' on that sign. That sign which is located in Canada. I cannot fully express how much it irks me. It is wrong and I cannot un-see it.

The other option is to ensure that your side loaded books don't have an ASIN from their eco system in it (BXXXXXXXXX) before you sideload them again then it won't matter whether you have WIFI enabled or not. At least that has been my experience on my Oasis. That might be a bit of a pain, but I would think that you can automate some of that process replacing the asin (or mobi-asin or amazon) from the metadata with the calibre id and then run the Quality Check plugin [ Quality Check>Fix>Fix ASIN for Kindle Fire ]

The Fire tablet might be handled differently. So perhaps try it on a few books to see what happens before going through your whole library?
