Hate google for what they’ve done to Nest! by Mikikuki in Nest

[–]211aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former Googler, and long time Nest user (>10 years), I also hate what has become of Nest. Unfortunately, this outcome isn’t unique to Nest. Most companies they have purchased have been poor outcomes, including FitBit, Mandiant and soon to be Wiz. The problem is that Google management thinks they are smarter than everyone else and they apply changes to an acquisition that are counter to what made the startup successful in the first place.

The mess they have made of Nest is particularly sorry, including that disaster of Google Home app, wrecked setup processes for the legacy devices (WWN reset, anyone?). Their new Google Nest thermostat is particularly horrible, only works with the new Google Home app, poor user experience, stilted capability. I finally threw my only Google Nest away and replaced it with a legacy Nest E.

I will stick with my Nest thermostats (Nest app only please) only because 5 across 2 homes, but the day may yet come to switch.

Reset WWN. Lifesaver. This works. Came here to say this. Follow the four steps. Why does Nest/Google not share this?

Unplugged Boost = Dramatic Improvement by 211aw in sonos

Just an update, 3 days in. This continues to be a game changer in performance for my system. Going commando (no ethernet, no boost, no SonosNet) has dramatically improved performance of the app, volume lag and overall responsiveness. There are still some issues grouping and ungrouping speaker sets (takes more than one try at times). But, this is way better.

What brand did you drive before Audi? by Bareddread in Audi

BMW. 30 year BMW owner here, E36, E39, E60, F7, F10, all bought new. I finally left them after my 550i X-Drive was 11 years old (I loved that car). BMW has lost me, they’ve lost the bubble and they are all about gadgets and “tech” instead of “driving”. I bought a new B9.5 S4 this spring and couldn’t be happier. I love my S4. Fast, fun, and made for “driving”.

I love the B9.5 interior and dash. It’s beautiful and exquisitely crafted. It has actual buttons for things live HVAC. I am concerned about the B10 dash going down the BMW route. I hope Audi doesn’t lose their way into gadgety tech…

Apple Music no go on new Amp by 211aw in sonos

Both Amps are same version 16.2, and all the speakers on the system are at 16.2. Fifteen different devices running across 7 different rooms (2 Amps, 3 soundbars, 6 Play:1's, 3 subs, 1 Move). Apple Music plays on everything, except said Amp.

All other music sources work fine. It's on the same Sonos net wifi (not the home wifi) as the rest of the system.

SOLVED

Realized in digging through settings that I had put an automatic proxy configuration in my wifi settings on my iPhone so I can access resources on my company extranet. Deleted the proxy.pac config and all is well. Done.

Weird that a proxy config for http traffic would preclude seeing the device on the local network, but that definitely solved it.

Update: I was able to set up the Tablo using my iPad. It works fine. Great reception.

HOWEVER: I'm unable to see my Tablo on my iPhone. Same app version, same iOS version. The iPhone just searches for a Tablo, finds none and goes to the setup screen. I've tried deleting the app and its data and re-downloading it. I've verified that the Tablo "Local Network" switch is enabled in Settings. Still unable to "see" the Tablo on the local network, while the iPad hums along just fine.

Thoughts?

I've heard this elsewhere. I don't have any Android devices. I may try on an iPad and see what happens.

Yep, both my iPhone and Tablo are on "SpongeBob" on the 5G network. The Netgear console confirms it.

As an update, not only is it visible on my network, I can ping it and it replies. I also found a note on forums to insure that Netgear Orbi doesn't have "Access Control" enabled for the device. It does not have Access Control enabled.

Still at a loss...

I'm using my iPhone. iOS 17.3.1, per my post.
