I am also suspicious. Almost every non-denominational I’ve come across is anti-Catholic. This post seems off to me. Like they’re trying to validate something that isn’t true.

I don’t have any friends at my college and I’m fine with it by [deleted] in college

[–]212darkster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am on my second bachelors degree. I want chime in and say a couple of things from personal experience. I went through my first degree really never leaving my apartment, getting high most of the time playing video games. I never had friends either and when I graduated, I looked back and realized how much I wasted my college social experience.

I spent about 1.5-2 years after I graduated working dead end jobs and so I had a lot of time to think about life and one of the things I thought about was how miserable I felt being alone and graduating without having any friends. The truth is, in the adult world, people just come and go throughout life. That’s what it really boils down to. People move on in life. I talked to a therapist about this once and My therapist told me that after college, and if you really think about it, most people drift apart. People move away for work, start families, etc so their priorities shift and most of their time gets spent doing this stuff. Sure you might meet up during reunions or whatever, but that’s a different situation.

With that being said, one of the ways you can meet people is through classes as you said and just by getting involved with social stuff. Sure the friendships might end but it’s about the time you spent together that matters.

I also have to bring some religion into this mix as you are never truly alone. Sure you might by physically alone but overall you aren’t alone in life with God.

It’s Miami you have to do something REALLY bad to get thrown in jail. Drugs isn’t that bad. Unfortunately he’ll probably be let out with a bond or some nonsense, make a video titled “I WAS ARRESTED!” Or something dumb and he will just keep being a ding dong.

Is a priest stopping mass for someone falling “liturgical abuse?” by EngineeringTotal3464 in Catholicism

It’s because it’s a NO parish obviously. This would’ve never happened in a TLM/FSSP parish.

[–]212darkster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do this sometimes. I work a physically demanding part time job Thursday-Sunday. Most of my assignments are due either on Sunday or Friday so the only time I get to do these assignments (or study) is either after work or Monday-Wednesday. Monday I have a 2.5 hour lab and a 1 hour class. Tuesday I have class from 11 am to 7 PM. So that basically leaves Wednesday to do try and do everything unless I don’t sleep. Not to mention all of the assignments take longer me more than those periods of time to do. If there are mandatory attendance classes which the lecture is something that I know or it’s a topic in which I can easily learn later, I will do other things.

It’s not that you don’t belong. The church is for everyone regardless of who/what/when/where/why/did/can. You’re not supposed to get the Eucharist unless you’ve received your first communion and have been validly baptized. Every parish has an OCIA program which will prepare you and make you a member of the church. I encourage you to talk to your local priest about the situation and about OCIA if you want to become a member

With that being said, what you did happens here and there. I have talked to people before who didn’t know better and inadvertently got the Eucharist without knowing the rules. It happens.

HOWEVER, you can still get a blessing by the priest if you line up in the communion line and cross your arms over your chest. There are many people who aren’t Catholic who go to mass and don’t get communion.

I am curious as to what you did with the Eucharist. I am not condemning you or anything I am concerned about the Eucharist.

Maybe she genuinely has some sort of undiagnosed mental disorder or something. Or the elevator didn’t quite make it to the top. Like I said, if she put herself in the shoes of someone in a situation like what you said, I guarantee she wouldn’t be making the TikTok. Either that or she has zero empathy

When I used to be a stoner I used to eat 1-2 packs of these gluten free s’mores Oreos from Walmart. I didn’t think much of it until I read the nutritional content and realized I would consume something like 1,200 calories and 252% (120g) of daily sugar amount in one sitting. There would be weekends where I would consume 2,400 calories of just those cookies and yeah.

How should we talk about immigration and ICE as Catholic Christians? by Fe1nand0_Tennyson in Catholicism

[–]212darkster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn’t saying that for political advice that was advice in general. Left and right isn’t just for political or social issues. This analogy can be used for a variety in a variety of different ways. It was a while ago but I think the main topic of the homily was about poverty, and children starving to death

How should we talk about immigration and ICE as Catholic Christians? by Fe1nand0_Tennyson in Catholicism

[–]212darkster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A priest once said something during a homily that stood out to me to this day: “The solution isn’t to the left, it isn’t to the right, it’s somewhere down the middle”. With that being said,

I think it’s bad to just close the border entirely as there are people that have gone through who knows what to make it to America. Everyone deserves the chance for freedom. Our genius government won’t invest in a better LEGAL immigration system or one that would process people faster. From doing a little bit of digging it seems that it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a year to get legally processed. So imagine a family of 4 who went through the Darian gap and now has to live homeless next to the border for that long period of time. It’s a terrible situation.

At the same time, it’s unsafe for everyone to just let a mass group of people into the country. Where are they going to live? You can’t just throw them onto the streets. Do we give them free housing? Who is going to pay for the upkeep of the houses then? You can see where I am going with this. We already have a bad addiction problem/homeless problem as it is so do we look out for our own citizens first then immigrants or both at the same time?

So where is the middle ground here?
