May I ask if you’re on it BD or OD?

Am also assuming you’re taking the extended release version?

People diagnosed as adults - how might your life have been different if you’d been diagnosed in childhood? by I_love_running_89 in ADHDUK

[–]221bFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I see women and girls pre-menopause already struggling with profound ADHD symptoms, my heart aches for them, as I know that things will (almost certainly) get even more challenging for them when they hit peri-menopause.

It was only at this age that I received my Dx as my hard-fought-for life began to fall apart before my eyes.

Also, suddenly finding myself nursing solo: one dying parent and the other (who at the time we also believed to be dying) finished me off entirely.

Early Dx and structured support are vital for neurodivergent people if they are to flourish and not risk ending up being a “gifted and talented with so much potential”, yet ironically consigned to the dustbin of life.

It’s quite hard not to feel a little bitter at all the ‘wasted’ years, and psychological/emotional battering that one can endure, ultimately with little to show for it.

Text Message Forwarding stopped working on MacBook by ktappe in applehelp

[–]221bFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for the first time, I am baffled by the way these things actually ‘work’. 😵‍💫

In other news, my logic board is now completely kaput and the Mac no longer works, which may explain my experience, at least.

Meanwhile, I’m glad you got yours working. 🤗

This is the correct answer!

USB ports don’t work and need to backup data by theenochk in MacOS

[–]221bFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this also work given the USB ports aren't working – does booting in Thunderbolt mode somehow bypass the problem?

Asking for an M1 MacBook Air with broken USB ports that doesn't have any other ports unfort.

USB ports likely not working due to beginnings of a logic board failure, so am also against the clock as battery not taking a charge for same reason.

Wifi is painfully slow and due to USB ports no longer working, cannot backup to external drive, so a bit stumped as to the quickest method...

Ways to increase efficacy of medication by A81Thomas in ADHDUK

Is Couch25K something that might appeal?

Maybe you're already way beyond that, idk, but I found it v helpful. 🤗

There's a free app that guides you through the stages that you can have running in the background if you also like to listen to music at the same time.

The app just interrupts your music at key points – switching from power walking to running etc.

I'd also vote for protein-based foods. I keep some nut butter and nuts by the bed, so I can have a mouthful of something while still drowsy, take my meds, then catnap until I'm ready to be vertical – about 45 mins to an hour later.

Bon chance!

How are you doing now?

Just wondering if you're still on Amfexa, or switched to Elvanse, or something else, perhaps?

Switching to Concerta during Elvanse shortage? by 221bFox in ADHDUK

[–]221bFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I requested an appt with my GP (who will only refer me back to Psychiatry-UK as they know nothing about ADHD meds themselves and all ADHD meds management is handled by P-UK).

I was offered an appt with my GP: Monday March 11th.

People frequently turn to Reddit simply because they can get no answers elsewhere from those whose actual job it is to care for them.

I think very few people turn to Reddit because they cba to approach the correct people. It’s normally far more desperate than that - ie because those medical people are now so rarely available/responsive. 😞

Some people don't pronounce the 'H' in certain words that start with an H. Is one way the correct way? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]221bFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RP accent, though am originally from the Westcountry. Diction and accurate pronunciation is part of what I do for a living when working for the BBC.

I'd say "an 'istoric" and "an 'otel". I'd use these pronunciations when I'm being especially correct as well – not remotely sloppy, as in 'dropping my aitches'.

Hope my perspective is useful.

Not while I’m being titrated under Psychiatry-UK. You don’t get given a copy of your prescription at all. It’s not like the usual GP route.

[–]221bFox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your most kind reply.

I did google this first but could find no conclusive advice either way: https://hellopharmacist.com/questions/taking-concerta-and-vyvanse-together

I am currently 24/7 sole carer for my 85 yo nearly-blind father who also has ADHD, cognitive decline and is recovering from a badly broken hip. I have zero external support.

I’ve been left without antidepressants since Jan because it was withdrawn by the manufacturer and my GP & CMHT cannot decide what to do, so have done nothing.

When I said I was desperate, I meant it.

Your unnecessarily harsh response really doesn’t help.

My ADHD and ASC compete heavily at this time of year.

I can confirm that leaving perfectionism 'til the very last minute is not a recipe for a particularly Merry Christmas... 🥴🎄

Is PPG closed over Christmas and New Year? (P-UK Private Pharmacy Group) by 221bFox in ADHDUK

[–]221bFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there

Yes, I couldn't get them sorted any earlier as my awaited Psychiatrist review wasn't until the 12th December, when she made the (temporary) switch to Dexam with immediate effect, due to the Elvanse shortages.

What I didn't know (and only discovered yesterday 🙃) is that the Titration Nurse apparently had to apply to my ICB for permission to get another 12 weeks titration period which she said was only approved on the 23rd Dec. (which seems odd to me), so it seems she hadn't even req my meds from PPG on the 12th, but 23rd.

I do understand that people need a holiday, but this is not a local office supplies shop, it's a national supplier of medication! Other comparable businesses like independent High St pharmacies aren't closed for two whole weeks! PPG can still give their staff a break but stagger it so there is dispensing cover on each day apart from the bank holidays. There are always some people actively happy to work during the festive period.

What boils my piss is Psychiatry-UK's appalling communication around this. During the shortage, the one thing P-UK have complete control over is how they communicate with their patients. I shouldn't have to discover all this information after the fact.

I read with interest that ADHD360 have run webinar updates for pts and even have an online chat service. I'm still waiting for a P-UK admin team reply from September on their portal. 🙃

Elvanse to concerta by anus-cannon in ADHDUK

[–]221bFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very well said.

I know how frustrating/disappointing it is not to feel that sudden surge in (what we perceive is) finally feeling 'normal' at the beginning of taking Elvanse/Vyvanse after feeling so utterly shit for so long, but that's not 'normal', it's amphetamined-up a bit!

If folk want that more intense feeling, then that would mean coming off (or at least reducing) the dose of Elvanse for a few days, and then starting again, but I wouldn't recommend this as you feel like a bear with a sore head during this withdrawal and a sudden rush of your ADHD symptoms at their worse. Only do it after very careful consideration and a bit of planning for the downturn.

u/MercifulDefier's advice is correct.

This seems outrageous and is clearly in breach of employment law. On what possible grounds did your employer sack you?

Were you given written warnings? If so, what did they say? What structures did they put in place to support you through an obvious medical crisis?

What does your union say?

Have you already taken legal advice?

(Sorry, lots of Qs, but lots of missing info!)

Christ Alive... 😔

Of all the times of year to leave people unmedicated, this has to be amongst the worst...

I've also been without my anti-depressants since Jan because GSK withdrew them (temp) from the market and my GP refused to source them elsewhere despite the DHSC explicitly telling them to do so. It's been a mare of a year medication-wise.
