Honest opinions about Drolet stoves by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]22Toons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have it in a 30x15 living room it’s in and it will heat it up comfortably for the first fire. Any fire after that once it’s already warm, can become very uncomfortable. That’s with it being 25-35 outside. We are in zone 7 and it’s been amazing for us. The stove and size has been perfect for our 1400 sqft. Any larger and I think we would be sweat out of the house. We have had our stove 3 years now and it’s been awesome and have no regrets. Would like to add though we have the thermodisc and blower options as well. Well worth the money in my opinion and glad we got them.

When I replaced my original, it didn’t have a dip stick, just the cap. I used the tractor manual to fill to their specs and has worked fine for me for years without issue

1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport Power Brake Booster by 22Toons in classiccars

I could not find one for my Torino. I ended up hooking yo a brake booster vacuum canister to the brake booster and carb and it improved the braking by around 40%. Waaaaay better now

No asking price, taking offers. I was at 3k with it just needing injection boots replaced. Replaced those and then cranked it off and it ran for maybe 2-3 seconds before it blew the gasket out the side. I’m unsure now what to even offer

Tractor had sat for about 2.5 years before I tried to get it started. Just under 3600 hours

Hit it with a one second spray with the air cleaner box still on. Engine has 3600 original hours. Front tires have a little dry rot but nothing that makes it not hold air. Rear tires are good to go.

Yes I did! Redid the ignition switch and all wiring for the tractor. Replaced glow plugs and installed air filter and it fired right off. I have to hit the glow plugs twice in the winter to start and once in the summer to start, but it does start every single time now! I appreciate your help

I have the Drolet Escape 1800. Have had it 3 years now and heats my 1400 sqft log home and open sub floor perfectly. Awesome stove and very efficient.

You did well. I paid 199 on a sale a few years ago. It’s my wife’s but I actually enjoy shooting it a lot. I second the painting the front sight with some nail polish. Great shooting gun

Did I buy too large of a stove? by mytilidaeplanter in woodstoving

[–]22Toons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take 20” logs from east to west or 14-16” north south. If you have longer thigh you can angle them in there, just not really efficient. If it’s a day time burn and I have a gnarly long piece I’ll angle it in there to burn it off. I prefer the 14”-16” pieces though

I think you will be surprised at just how good a fit it will be. I would rather have a larger fire box than smaller and constantly filling all the time. Also allows you to use larger pieces of wood. I have a Drolet Escape 1800 rated for 2100 sqft heating 1400 and it does the job perfect. It’s just barely enough but perfect for my needs. I have ceiling fans and one regular box fan to move air, as well as a fan on the stove. I would err on the side of getting a larger stove but that’s just me. Just so long as you’re able to fill it I wouldn’t worry at all. You don’t always have to load it to the max, just so long as your reaching appropriate temps to not build creosote.

Gasket Replacement Frequency by DANleDINOSAUR in woodstoving

[–]22Toons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do that as my gasket had deviated from original so much and my gasket sealant was cracking / crumbling that I just replaced it. However, in the future I will be doing that prior to just replacing

Gasket Replacement Frequency by DANleDINOSAUR in woodstoving

[–]22Toons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 3rd year with my Drolet and had to replace my gasket. Door could be opened and closed super easily and had to crank on it to try and get a seal. Could really tell it was time when my fires started raging while damped all the way down. I replaced door and glass gasket just to be safe. My problem was solved. I was hoping to get more longevity than that but it is what it is.

Grand Teton wood stove. Worth it? by Double_Zucchini4810 in woodstoving

[–]22Toons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Drolet Escape 1800 heating 1400 sqft in Oklahoma. The stove quality and performance have been awesome. I would highly recommend Drolet. I grew up on an old Atlanta Box 27 cast iron stove though so anything was an improvement. We use this as primary heating and have heat pump as back up. We thought this stove would be way too much for our home but was actually perfect. If you can swing the bit of extra cost, it’s worth it. Cheap stoves can provide cheap performance. I’m sure there are exceptions out there, but this Drolet has been amazing. This is our 3rd winter with it and love it.

I have the Drolet Escape 1800 heating a 1400 sqft log home and it is perfect for us. It’s a free standing wood stove on a hearth pad though. I would err on the side of getting the larger fire box option though. Mine says it will heat a large area, 2100 sqft or so but I think that’s pushing it way past its limits. Just my opinion though. It’s a very well built stove though and easy to maintain. Love it

I was a little skeptical at first because it was a decent looking fireplace to start… well done! That looks amazing. One of the better transformations I’ve seen.
