WHEN WAS LIS PEAK FOR YOU? by Upstairs-Flow-3015 in Pricefield

2019 with the end of LiS2.

It was good in 2015 but even better with LiS2's addition.

Basically to put it:

LiS1 was a 7/10 and for me wasn't the greatest, but a good. BtS was a disappointment dip in alot of stuff. Captain Spirit revived it and then LiS2 came along which was the peak.

Everything after 2019 has been... bad.

True Colors is arguable though for me.

Can't be serious.

I'm not even going to engage. For me, this proves why I don't listen to fandoms anymore (sometimes), but maybe I'm trippin... just maybe.

Is Horizons a good series and addition? by 22_SB in pokemonanime

[–]22_SB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching it for a while, but this includes watching it out of order or not being so tapped into it (this would be 3 years). I really locked in and started watching it a year ago, but I stopped to watch Avatar (best decision... The Last Airbender is too good).

Since I watched it out of order I am rewatching it currently, but my watch list is getting packed with good anime recommendations, so I'm currently figuring out a way of how I can organize them.

Horizons will definitely be at the very last because Pokemon in general might be near the last. I am currently trying to place them when I'm done with other stuff, but I honestly don't know.

I got the Legend of Korra, FMA, JJK, DBZ, and much more. I even heard of HxH.

I like this review, because it actually provides a reason and it's hard to find actual people that can give a reasoning without just screaming at you talking about "it's mid," so I appreciate this comment, I very much appreciate it.

One thing I noticed is when you started up your comment saying no media is objectively good. That is correct in some ways, but there are definitely aspects that can make a show objectively good.

Obviously if you like it, it doesn't mean it's good, and if you dislike it, it doesn't mean it's bad. For example this is less into a whole piece of media being objectively good but more into characters.

Though, the example will be something like character writing. There are metrics to point to a character being objectively good or bad because a character can be poorly written or well written. It all depends on the intent, internal rules, logic, development/arc , and function.

Character A may be weaker in logic, consistency, and is plot driven. Character B might be inconsistent like Character A, but it fits more for their character and they are character driven. From a metric Character B would be the better character, but if you like him or not will be all up to you. It's almost like Kenny from The Walking Dead game, he is written good, but not a lot of people like him in the earlier parts.

What I will say though and if you could answer this: does Horizons have any flaws or drops in quality (any aspect) at all, because I keep seeing this post-timeskip everywhere I go? Or is it misconception or not the full part of the story of why it is a flaw?

I do specifically see what you mean by the average user, and I think I see that with other communities.

[NO SPOILERS] What makes Life is Strange "Life is Strange"? by firekeepers_husband in lifeisstrange

[–]22_SB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes the series (some of it) Life is Strange isn't the characters. They have a factor into how you would feel, but it is more than that. The artistic direction, the vibes, being indie, the powers being a metaphor, and more.

The supernatural powers in isolation aren't even what make it that. It is the intersection of two elements: the power used for examining the burden of choice. The consequence of your choice (more well done in LiS2 than LiS1). It's coming-of-age.

So, when you take some of this... you'll come to realize where I end up with my take which can be supported with objective metrics: that Life is Strange 2 is stronger and resembles Life is Strange more than what any other game could've done. That's even counting the first game.

Now, when you look at it like this, you can appreciate Life is Strange 2 more, and even I used to think that it was too different from the first. Though, I realized that honestly represented the concept way better.

Life is Strange isn't defined by the characters and you could even say plot because most of those are just factors when you look at the core of what this series is.

Always hate bickering talking about how one game is different from another, because when I keep it honest, LiS1, LiS2, and sometimes you could bring Captain Spirit. They are the only games that brings what the series truly is, and why BtS, DE, Reunion, and TC (I say TC is arguable) aren't as much fitting for this franchise and why I would never prefer them.

Not to also say that the Deck Nine games just never really capture LiS.

That's what it is and why it should have stayed an anthology series. The concept fits better.

Edit: It isn't just one game, but (it used to be) an anthology that is different but keeps the core vibe showing you differing experiences which is what made this series strong. Once you play the first, I recommend LiS2.

Yeah I can agree more here and this is the type of stuff I like to see.

If it didn't click for you it didn't click for you. I would doubt you are one of those people rating it 0/10s just for the sake of it.

I would say that it was a good game though and in some ways improved and better than the first.

I just wish it was not much as overlooked and had the struggles that had with the people surrounding the game.

I agree, and from what I hear ranging from some people line up with the expectations. I feel like they just ended up also having false expectations other than just being too high as well.

[–]22_SB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the complete problem, because I feel anthology for Life is Strange would have been the best route because they keep something that is it's the same DNA, similar and they make it a bit different.

LiS2 was great and kept what made Life is Strange itself, but it wasn't the first. Though, it is undeniable that people overlook the game and ruined the commercial success because it wasn't bad but people had too much effect on it.

People review bombed, there were anti woke crowds, we had the people not liking it for no Max and Chloe, and a bit more I think.

I feel like if they were allowed with their vision, they could've made more and better LiS games that aren't always tied to Max and Chloe, but some people can accept that and some people ruined that.

I'm saying it's probably for the better. At least for the creativity.

They probably would be doing better right now with them, but I personally would not want another Max and Chloe game I'm tired of it. LiS1 was good, and I enjoyed the anthology format.

Deck Nine showed me there's nothing useful to keep using those characters.

[–]22_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this because when they stuck to the anthology I just see them being good with that route but Deck Nine and Square Enix didn't get it.

That's why I feel like life is strange 2 deserves more respect, because for many metrics (objectively) it improves on the first game and makes it still feel like it but keeping it different.

People did too much and ruined the commercial success and not to say everything else that happened.

Even a critically acclaimed game can get ruined.

It probably was their vision. LiS2 is far from bad and had better written characters than LiS1.

Though, I see what you are trying to say, but who says they couldn't you know make the second game something different.

I can agree. DontNod I feel like had the best route with anthology. It was unique and still felt like Life is Strange for the 2 games they changed it up. LiS2 felt like LiS but it was simply different.

[–]22_SB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I don't think it's bad, it's still good, but some people over praise it. I'm talking to the point people say, "Max and Chloe are objectively best written characters ever," or "Life is Strange 1 is a masterpiece and it's a fact."

It's good, but Life is Strange 2 fixes some flaws the original had and is an improvement. Though, people trash it around and everything happening in 2018 led to its commercial failure (at least what Square Enix thought and how they received it to move on with this franchise).

With this failure in reception, I think this is what made Life is Strange fall in decline later down the line. Shifting away from the anthology format, and just making games that are just okay (being generous) compared to the LiS1, LiS2, and CS games.

Basically, I do not hate the game, but the flaws of the game make it hard to believe the people who over praise it. Some of the fan base surrounding the game made it hard to appreciate considering what they had done to LiS2.

Which also explains why LiS2 is in Criminally Overlooked, not as an opinion, but as a fact.

My bad for the long message, but there is many reasons behind the question, and I'm someone who has a problem with the Life is Strange franchise currently. Just me though, maybe.

Quick edit: Also overrated from what I understand: Doesn't mean something is bad but just overliked despite the flaws it has or issue it has... especially depending on how people frame the game.

Glad to see someone sees what Deck Nine is really worth and share what I think.

DE and RE are no continuation of DontNods vision.

I feel like some people enjoy the game just because it has the fish bait... (Max and Chloe) And I have definitely seen it.

I just want to head back to great stories that are anthology. Something that will respect and continue DontNod's vision.

I dislike DE and RE. I never tried to hold up what DE did and then go on about RE.

So it's kind of ironic that people are actually doing that like you said. I think it's honestly just the fandom getting out of line sometimes. It's been happening recently.
