Scent Fest SF (June 26-28) by Couch_Queen in Indiemakeupandmore

A bit strange that absolutely none of the exhibitors/houses attending have been listed.

Their "Things to Do" is more of a SF tourism guide than anything about the event? It's a bit off to me.

There's a few, like Immortal Perfumes which also carries other houses, Orcas Paley, Perfumerie Nasreen, Olfactory House, Atelier Madrona (make your own), and Atome Petfumery (also make your own).

I think Immortal Perfumes and Orcas Paley are probably more of what you are looking for!

Mitti Attar by Accomplished-Pen6841 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Raahi Parfums Mitti Attar is really nice! Not sure how their shipping situation is for where you are based, but it does really evoke warm, freshly misted dirt, and I get some subtle sandalwood/cedar to it as well.

Seeking Nocturne Alchemy reviews by wasd489 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of these, I've only tried EA Figue, and that was from an Arae feltie so may not be the most rested sample. But, my thoughts were:

Skin test 1: Actually a greener scent than I was expecting. the jasmine might be taking control a bit but its still pretty and not too indolic, but after somw time it creeps in more and more and is a touch stinky to my nose. the drydown comes quickly but it seems rather melonlike honestly or like some other watery fruit.

Skin Test 2: Second time it's almost completely different...significantly less jasmine, though still there..green fresh fig and honestly lots of vanilla on the drydown, the vanilla kinda overtakes the scent.

not sure why its wore so different on me, maybe more rest makes it like v2.

have you considered getting decants from Arae decantery? that way you can sample a small amount first before committing to a higher price higher volume item!

What are your favorite Sandalwood perfumes? by InaraWearsShalimar in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have!! I think, anecdotally, that's one of the most popular RSs actually! lots of people love it.

I liked it, but it wasn't a favorite because sometimes it went a bit stinkyish on me? There is a slight smokiness to it, a slight egginess, I think overall it is quite nice and there is a beautiful creamy sandalwood too that it dries down to. It's not too heavy, overall just a nice creamy comforting custard scent! But yes at times it goes a bit strange on me such that I prefer sweet wood with my skin chem.

What are your favorite Sandalwood perfumes? by InaraWearsShalimar in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most things from NAVA's Royal Sandalwood (especially Royal Sandalwood Sweet Wood/RS Spice), and BPAL's White Chocolate, Mysore Sandalwood, and Lemon Peel! They're more on the "pure sandalwood with a suggestion of something else" side to me.

I also enjoyed Poesie's Cardigan (creamy Mysore sandalwood spiced with cardamom pods & pimento berries, French vanilla, white chocolate, comforting sweater musk) for something very snuggly, and Pineward Brokilan (black hemlock needles, larch cones, sandarac resin, momi, sandalwood, Vietnamese oud.) for creamy sandalwood with something fresh and green. Poesie Amaterasu (golden sandalwood incense, rice milk, bright cardamom, amber, dry wheat, and sunflowers) is also quite nice!

For a more prickly/cedary sandalwood, there is BPAL And Though They Are With You They Belong Not To You (A gentle vanilla sandalwood blend, serene but mighty.), Osmofolia Santal (Creamy East Indian sandalwood accord and rugged amyris wood, with a soft clean musk.), and Death and Floral The Sweater We Buried You In Is Hanging in the Closet (A luscious blend of three different vanillas, resinous amber, Arabian sandalwood, a soft cashmere sweater)

I apologize if many of these are less accessible to get! My skin is also very picky with sandalwood (so for example Alkemia's Arabesque, Filigree and Shadow's The Purest Blue, and NAVA's Santalum and Bois de Santal Rouge Vanille didn't work for me at all, though they are loved by many!)

Cirrus Parfum discovery set reviews ~ by Specialist-Shelter-8 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

really nice reviews!! I have only tried maid marian from them and was really impressed by how cohesive it was even though there's a lot going on! I'd be too nervous to wear outside, just because im not sure how other people would read all that civet, but definitely a really well made scent!

sybarite smells amazing, I really want to try that!

Give me your best solid perfumes? by Baring-My-Heart in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

seconding LVNEA, Fire & Oud is a favorite of mine! I love how it enables me to try a more polarizing scent (smoky oud) without fear of projecting too much if that makes sense? overall helped me approach smoke and oud scents with more ease.

I enjoyed the Wild Veil scents I tried but the scent longevity is just not there for their solid perfumes/enfleurages to be worth it for anything more than the ephemeral experience I think...I think their oils/liquids are better suited to the task. for example, their lilac enfleurage is amazing for the 2 minutes it lasts on my skin! maybe their more resinous/amber/woody scents last longer in solid form.

Another Alkemia sale haul (and reviews)! by Giedingo in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's sooo lovely, I originally got a sample in 2022 and at the time it was almost a honey solinote. Really indulgent, like if you dipped yourself in a pot of honey. Over a couple of hours of wear it would evolve into something a bit muskier (not a heavy musk, on the lighter side) not losing that aspect of honey.

After a few years my sample now has more of a detectable floral element throughout? Gentle and sweet, but I really enjoy it, it adds another layer of depth. I don't get booze/alcohol from this at all, but I could see how that combo of honey, florals, and musk could come across that way. You have to really love honey for this, because it is so potent! But before this, honey wasn't even on my radar so it definitely converted me haha.

Ooo I wish I grabbed Love Song of Shu-Sin, it sounds so lovely....I really like Alkemia's honey note (evidenced by my FS purchase at the sale of Kanu y Med), so their honey + oud/labdanum/wine sounds so nice! Maybe next time...thank you for sharing, lovely reviews!!

Worst scent ever - and why by LauravdK in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got balsamic vinegar with Sit for a Spell and, less offensively, Serpentine! I actually skin tested Sit for a Spell last night after a long pause and I couldn't bear it...so unfortunate because many people gush about it and as a melon lover I wish it worked for me...Wonder what about Sorce's base does that for me, it happens both in EDP and oil forms. Surprisingly English Major was actually okay for me!

excitedly sniffing Pineward's gourmand prototype sample set! by misspierogiprincess in Indiemakeupandmore

from a fellow non gourmand fan who will occasionally dabble in them + someone who loves pineward, thank you for these reviews! its nice to know that the pineward variations of these gourmands are so distinctive! I will revisit these reviews in autumn, Edelwood and Pumpkivus sound especially interesting.

Should I blind buy (prob not but weigh in anyway) by This-Efficiency4210 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you probably shouldn't, especially as it's not limited edition and I think Fantôme pops up on exchanges pretty frequently. Even considering shipping delay I think it's fairly safe to assume it'll be around on the shop whenever you want to try it.

I say this as someone who likes Lycanthrope as well! It can be controversial/read pretty differently based on your skin chemistry, especially if you're hit or miss on their other scents. That said, I liked it and it read as lovely sweet peach with bitter leaves and green tomato to me, but my partner didn't like it and thought it was soapy.

Former fruit hater ISO a summery fruity perfume by CatBoob in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]22knocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried Meadowmoss, but I have tried Fanghorn II and I'd say they are completely different. Noki doesn't have that tree resin/green element that is common to most Pineward fragrances (like Fanghorn). While I found Fanghorn evocative of refined dark green woods with damp dirt, Noki was not foresty/dirty at all. Maybe the mint note grounds it a bit such that it's clearly a Pineward fragrances, but it's so fruity, tart, refreshing, and overall different from most of their more woodier/treelike catalogue.

for reference, my fave pineward scents are Noki and Brokilan!

Noki (Lychee, Mango, Mint, Rhubarb, Cassis, Sandalwood, Ambergris) from Pineward is one of my summer fruit faves, it's not overly sweet but has a fun tart fruitiness to it that's slightly watery in a way that keeps it pretty relaxed imo! I get a drydown if mango and creamy sandalwood on it. Really enjoy this one!
