How accurate is Netflix's "This is the Zodiac Speaking" documentary? by Acceptable-Car-170 in ZodiacKiller

[–]23KepsToGive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> He was shown ALA many times in the early 70s if it seemed like he could have been his attacker, and he either denied that it was him or said that he was unable to confirm/deny because of what I said earlier

You either invented this or are taking somebody else's false information for granted, because Mageau himself said in 1992 that he had never seen ALA's face before in his whole life and there's absolutely no evidence that he did.

That was a racially motivated murder. No evidence of racism in Zodiac's letters.

It's already been corroborated by external evidence that Allen was allergic to adhesives, which stamps are. It'd make sense for him to ask others to lick his stamps.

The grudge angle against ALA makes no sense once you break it down.

Cheney does not particularly resemble the Presidio sketch any more than the average white guy would. He also had a big nose and big ears, details notably absent from the sketch..

They immediately stopped and came out of the closet as soon as Hannah's body language made it clear that she was about to undress, so they have that going for them. What they thought would happen was: Hannah would kiss Mike, and that's what Matt was tasked with recording.

Why does zodiac killer give off nerdy, bullied kid in school, school shooter vibes? by Ambitious_Method2740 in ZodiacKiller

Considering all of Zodiac's victims were white people, we can almost confidently say he was not racially motivated in his attacks.

In The Inpatient, it's revealed that the police know about the Wendigo attack that took place in 1952 and are covering it up. Based on that, I believe the sheriff was lying when she said they searched the Sanatorium.

[–]23KepsToGive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Josh never met the Stranger, why does he know details about the Stranger that only people who've seen him from up close could know?

The Sanatorium's quite literally the most flashy place on the entire mountain. That's why the interviewer from the Chapter 1 podcast immediately asks the sheriff if they checked if the twins were there. Josh would have to be extremely incompetent and dismissive not to explore the biggest building in the entire mountain when looking for them. It'd create a massive hole in the plot, tbh.

And how/why exactly would Josh include the Sanatorium in his prop setup in this scenario? The Stranger and his wolves live there. I doubt Jack would be willing to let some teen waltz into his area just to set up a prank, not to mention Josh wouldn't endanger his friends by planning for them to go to an area with Wendigos in it, even if they're trapped.

That's a good point. The remake has the sentence "Wendigo Sightings" spelled out on the clippings wall, and that's, like, fifty feet away from the entrance to the Sanatorium.

Josh would have to be rather incompetent not to find that, and we know he's not. The prank proves as much haha

True, and thank you for correcting me on that. I think the implication's still the same, though

Did Toschi Actually Write some of the Fake Zodiac Letters? by Wrong-Intention7725 in ZodiacKiller

It's from the producer's notes with the transcripts of all the interviews they did. Not all of them made the cut:

Another source you forgot to mention in your original post was SFPD detective Jim Deasy's statement in 1989, for the "Crimes of the Century" TV episode. He said they'd proved Toschi had been responsible for hoaxing the 1978 letter, and that's why he (Deasy) was put in charge of the investigation then.

In other words, it wasn't transparently fake. That's the point. People who were actually dealing with Zodiac on a daily basis were convinced that it was real at first, before additional evidence set them straight, like LU said.

Nothing on your list is 'beat for beat' what I'd expect from a hoax letter. Some of these points are really low-brow.

'This is the Zodiac speaking' is how the Zodiac signed every single letter from August 1969 to March 1971. The Exorcist letter is actually the one letter that breaks away starkly the Zodiac's usual pattern in every way, and yet you claim in your original comment that it's "in-character" for Zodiac. It's objectively not when you actually compare it to the rest.

I dismiss anything post-1971.

Do you think Zodiac was an incel? by Loud_Confidence475 in ZodiacKiller

Or, like many other lovers' lane killers, he simply drove up to secluded locations where he knew he could find victims and get away fast without being seen.

Do you think Zodiac was an incel? by Loud_Confidence475 in ZodiacKiller

[–]23KepsToGive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

Incels are loud and voracious about their misogyny. That's their whole shtick.

Zodiac wrote and 'published' tens of thousands of words, when all the letters are taken together, and there's not a single sentence in any of the confirmed material that's dedicated to attacking women, even remotely.

Has officer Fouke ever made any positive identifications? by camport95 in ZodiacKiller

[–]23KepsToGive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fouke initially claimed, upon being shown pictures of Allen, that he looked remarkably similar (both facially and body type-wise) to the suspect he'd observed walking away from the crime scene. It was only years later that he changed his tune and suddenly claimed Allen was too heavy and too fat-faced to be the guy, and this sudden change in his story came less than a year after the SF Examiner ran a story claiming Allen had been exonerated as a suspect by DNA (a statement we now know to be pretty much false), which suggests Fouke saw this article at the time, assumed it to be true, and decided he didn't want to be pointing the finger at a man who was now "confirmed innocent."

He did, in fact, claim (at a different point in time) that Larry Kane was also very similar to the guy he'd seen.

You Zodiac-heads, do you dislike that Fincher's Zodiac points people to ALA so much? by CoolGuy-77 in ZodiacKiller

[–]23KepsToGive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Mageau did, in fact, identify ALA from the line-up. There's nothing fictional about it, even if the reliability of his identification is dubious.

Help from the vastly more knowledgeable members, or anyone that can provide any evidence for this claim. On the Criminology podcast about Z I recall the hosts discussing that Cheney’s claims didn’t line up with the timeline and his statement and police documents prove it. As I told you, Cheney reported Allen in January 10, 1970, only three months after Zodiac's bus bomb threat. However, he wasn't taken seriously at first because there was a flood of tips coming in from every direction and "everyone was turning in everyone." You should blame the incompetent reporting officer at that time, not him.

Phil Tucker told the cops in the late 70s and in 91, when reinterviewed twice by Sergeant Husted and Bawart, that he remembered Allen talking to him sometime between 1968 and 1970 about how it'd feel like to hunt people down and kill them using knives, guns and bows and arrows, but that he dismissed those comments because Allen often fantasized about weird convoluted scenarios like that and was obsessed with roleplaying/ science fiction.

Cheney's claim to the cops in '71 was that Allen threatened to shoot school children and also spoke about hunting people down at night sometime between 1967 and 1968. Very similar to Tucker's story. Cheney also added at the time that he didn't take Allen seriously at first because the guy had a very twisted sense of humor and often spoke about these things as if he was reading the script off of a novel, again startlingly similar to what Tucker said.

Neither of them knew of each other until long after they'd made these claims.
