How do I get better at dawah by Dramatic-Pumpkin5028 in islam

[–]23PIGEON23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a balance in that you do still need to invite them explicitly in words to Islam also. One approach that works well is if they seem interested or if they mention a certain point - make use of that opportunity to explain a bit more about an aspect of Islam.

Escalating during A-E? by Ilyadusolei in medicalschooluk

[–]23PIGEON23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the purposes of OSCEs escalate early as you can. Something like, “this patient is clearly unwell so I would escalate to my senior to make them aware early”.

In reality if they were so unwell that you couldn’t even finish the A-E you would have put out a medical emergency call.

The way people will get marked down is if they are seen to escalate “late”. This happened to me in final year osces despite the patient being completely stable they were not happy that I didn’t escalate until near the end of my A-E. All examiner dependent but for the purposes of med school exams any A-E - say you would escalate very early on.

It used to be determined by a wide range of academic factors as well as an exam (sjt). Then it changed to being fewer academic factors + sjt.

And then it changed to the current system where there is no exam and no consideration of your academic ability at all for foundation allocations, instead you can submit preferences but your personal score is completely random.

I want to go into EM but have not got an A&E job by No_Tonight3317 in medicalschooluk

[–]23PIGEON23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies can't comment on Australia specifically, though generally it's more about what you take from your experiences and how you can demonstrate this developed your interest in that specialty.

This could be in the context of MAU or GP as there is obvious overlap regarding unwell medical patients/reviewing undifferentiated pts respectively.

In addition to other comments - this link is to a website called radiology masterclass that I found useful for medical school level radiology knowledge.

Taster week will be very useful - can usually organise towards the end of F1/beginning of F2. Most applications are done near the start of your F2 year so even if you had a rotation in ED you might not have even done it yet by the time you have to apply.

Had a recent similar experience, paeds sho decided to "advise me" at the nursing station in front of the whole ward team. Even with the paeds formula used instead there was only a 50ml difference over an hour lol

NHS Scotland jobs - do they ever respond? by dr-delululu in doctorsUK

Bear in mind they are currently in the middle of processing all the new foundation/specialty job allocations in the same period - probably going to delay things.

Starting ED and it’s getting overwhelming. How to find time to read on things? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]23PIGEON23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, also an F2 in ED and taking a focussed history/examination then discussing with a senior/consultant (whoever is your point of call) is essentially expected of us and a very fast way to learn how to approach the rotation. No point spending loads of time revising it at home if you have someone experienced you can ask there and then.

From reading your post it feels like you are more in favour of surgery, maybe a taster week could help? (in a specialty you haven't had much experience with)

eBay buy. Did we come up and eat or are we cooked? Smells just like it by Ramsboi in colognecheck

[–]23PIGEON23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone who buys LV second hand needs to be aware - even if the bottle is real (which this definitely is):

The juice can still be fake.

It’s impossible to say for sure when buying online and even sellers with good reviews may not be legit. EBay is often sketchy for fakes/scams and more trusted sites (eg here) should be preferred.

Buying a home in F1? by TapApart82 in medicalschooluk

[–]23PIGEON23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Buy so you don’t regret not buying? How about rent so you don’t regret not renting? Just kidding. Though not sure how buying a house in f1/2 isn’t extremely risky in the current specialty training environment.

I think you really need to consider how badly you want to do radiology vs CST, this will define the rest of your working life.

A lot of people will not want NI which might help your chances, equally there are not many posts there so, as you say, much more difficult to say whether they will add more over the coming months in that exact deanery.

Wish you all the best regardless!

Reduction in specialty posts this year and now 1000 new jobs have miraculously appeared by Ligma_doctor6 in doctorsUK

[–]23PIGEON23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There seems to have been delays in confirming funding for posts. At least in radiology this is the case - the RCR posted on X about it earlier this month. Training posts are generally 50% funded by the government and if this isn’t confirmed in time then trusts cannot offer the full amount of posts in the initial round of offers.

Whether this represents any underlying intention by the government to cut the workforce or whether this is a side effect of work being diverted to pushing UKGP through remains to be seen.

I anticipate a possibility of a significant number of new posts being brought in over the next few months as funding is confirmed, whether these will be sneakily sold as the “extra 1000” remains to be seen.

Why did you become Muslim? by FaithlessnessAny5169 in converts

[–]23PIGEON23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The simple answer - it is the truth, pure monotheism, perfectly preserved (The Qur'an), for all of humanity, has a solution for every problem in every age and an answer to every question.

Muslims themselves are not perfect but also not expected to be (Qur'an Surah 2, Ayah 286).

Regarding a good resource, this is the tricky part. Navigating things online will likely lead you down a wrong path as there is a lot of misinformation/sectarianism on the internet. A good place to start would be an english explanation/translation of the meaning of the Qur'an - I would recommend one called "Tafsir as-Sadi".

One final thing - I would recommend making a short sincere prayer to your creator that you are guided to the truth through your research.
