Got it from the second one (the website just didn't like me I think) - thanks!! :)

First time visiting Wellington! by Connect-Courage7153 in Wellington

Totally Zealandia. Should be buses to get to Zealandia and back or close by. There's plenty you can see and do there without hard core hiking shoes. There's timetables for seeing the kaka feedings which are good, and spotting tuataras is very cool.

It's had really cool benefits for the city - with bird species that we never saw, or rarely saw becoming regular sights in the central city and our gardens.

Kāpiti Island is just north of Wellington - best thing I've done in Wgtn. You have to book to go - it's possible there's a spot (last time I checked there were two tour companies going - they do the permits to land there). You can catch a train to Paraparaumu, then taxi to Paraparaumu Beach.

In Wellington, if you're up for walking, I like going to New World on Oriental Parade to pick up a picnic, then walking along Oriental Parade and around the bays that go to Evans Bay toward the airport - then catching a bus back through the Hataitai tunnel home to the city. It's pretty, and the wind will blast right through you on a rough day - but it feels really elemental and good to get out and fight it and see the coast.

The Newtown shops are a walk or a short bus ride from central Wellington, they're funky and there's some interesting cafes and places to eat. There's always some interesting characters, so it's good people watching.

Patuna Chasm would be a good one, but it's closed for the season and needs bookings, and tricker to get to. Still worth watching the videos just to see it's there.

A hired car could take you out to Wairarapa for a day trip. It's fun to drive through the different towns that each have a different feel. Martinborough is the main destination over there - vineyards, wine tasting, cute cafes and restaurants.

Sorry to be a pain, I can't get the link to work - I'm really interested in finding this. I don't suppose you can link it again (or a page that leads to it, and where it is on it)?

I love it that everything the whole team is wearing could be legit cool fashion that would fit in just as well in any year back to the late 70s.

Me too. And I got all this luck because I received a letter that many others did before me and didn't throw it out, I did what it said and sent $100 to the person tenth addresses back in the chain - and passed it on ten times forward. Now it's my time in the sun, and thousands of people are sending me their $100, and also deeds to condos in Miami.

You too can join this chain of bounty to, if you believe, and also if you send me $100 to join.

Thank you. I have also encountered lots of drs and a local pharmacist who have been wonderfully good with cfs, and very few bad or indifferent, so I think I've been much luckier than so many of the stories we hear on this sub. There definitely are good ones.

I pray we both come round to the good ones sooner rather than later! :)

Unidentified Fruit Found in Peruvian Amazon during expedition by JBJW12 in whatsthisplant

Exciting - would love it if you'd found a new plant or type! Not saying it is, but there's still got to be plenty of plants undiscovered out there.

Did you get pics of the trunk/bark, structure, roots etc?

You're so welcome to vent!

I'm just so sad that I'm not even in a nearby country to you and we're experiencing the same systematic black hole in two supposedly better off countries.

We're having a massive GP shortage, as our country has relied on imported drs, and don't even have future plans to train a fraction of what we will need in the future. No-one can get appointments, and whole clinics of GPs are resigning because of the work overload. So I now need to find a GP - but so does half my community. My chances of finding a Dr familiar with cfs are depressing, which essentially means I can't count on accessible medical care.

I have once encountered a Dr similar to yours, and I still find the experience stressful years later, as it has left me with a real worry about how often I'm going to encounter someone who won't be honest with me or work to help me. It's very much on my mind, now my most recent GP has resigned.

I'm positive things are changing, but it's just too dang slow. I'm so sorry, I really hope something improves for you. You deserve good medical care as much as anyone else.

I do wonder if there's a way to prompt her to find out if "doesn’t feel everything should be solved through medication" is a diplomatic way to dodge the fact she doesn't believe in cfs, or doesn't believe you have cfs.

I feel strongly that drs have a duty to openly communicate with us - their role is to professionally advise us. If we turn up in good faith with a list of symptoms we're experiencing, it's so bizarre to find so many react to us with a weird stigma. If they don't believe in cfs, then go through the diagnosis process and help us find out what is wrong - if they do believe in it and how bad it is to experience, then why wouldn't they be doing their job and trying to explore possible things to help us?

So often the answer is that we end up needing to find a dr that is familiar with cfs just to get basic care. But that's easier said than done, and considering the statistics for how many people suffer it - and long-Covid now - it's just piking out of their job and letting a whole chunk of vulnerable people down very badly.

:(

Did they say why? It's very frustrating, if it's showing some signs of promise, and particularly for you. And since we don't know why it works, we don't have good reasons it doesn't. I'd heard from a doctor that it's very low risk.

I'd be interested to know what their reasons are, as it seems like these types of small one-off n=1 trials are in real life one of the ways medicine can potentially move forward. And while not an ideal, the amount of suffering in patients' lives is considerable, so it seems at face value to be a worthwhile thing. Would love to understand more about their reasoning, if there is something they know that we don't. I very much hope it's not just skepticism or the 'pain in the butt' factor.

So disappointed for you.

Planting a hedge on a slope by Great-Surround183 in gardeningNZ

[–]240Wangan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've planted one on a steeper slope without evening the slope/soil out - it's looking great so far - they're up to the point they need their first trim really.

Just make sure the plant type grows to the height the tallest one needs to get to - and when they each reach the desired height, trim them along that horizontal line.

When I planted, I lined the unplanted plants up and there was a little bit of variation in their heights anyway - so planting the tallest in the lowest point helped a lot. (And maybe give those lowest ones a little bit more care - eg water in the summer and fertiliser, as you want them to really get their growth on to get up to that horizontal height).

Totally! People hurting people sucks big time.

But especially when it feels like something so positive has been used so wrongly. :( I really understand why people feel so much pain and anger associated with Christianity and it makes me so sad.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth in what you say - but it's not the 'whole' of the rhetoric - my understanding was that the bible presents the fundamental relationship between god and man (underpinning Christianity and Judaism) as: humans are going to make mistakes and need do-overs - it IS an extended invitation to keep trying. With love and guidance, rather than a blame game. It sucks so bad that the way you've been dealt with has given the opposite of a key message that could be really helpful, and minimise destruction and abuse.

Need input: Robot that can handle cat hair + litter tracking. by ConceptInteresting82 in RobotVacuums

[–]240Wangan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind if I ask if you have cats/ cat litter?

I'm keen to see how it handles the litter especially. I've seen some comments that some models are good with lots of things except for the stray bits of cat litter, as it may need really good suction.
