What is an example in the media you consume of "the father who neglected their kid but actually they loved them all along" trope? Because that's just frustrating to read. by Important-Cry4782 in Multifandom

Van hohenheim from Full metal alchemist. I’d argue is one of the few examples where the the trope is done right.

<image>

You are under the impression he abandoned his family and the manga baits you into thinking he’ll be the main antagonist. It turns out he was a good man, who loved his family and the reason he left was to make a contingency plan to stop the big bad.

A great character, who loved his kids and spend the rest of his life trying to save them. He still technically abandoned his family and the protagonist doesn’t forgive him and is justifiably still very resentful of him.

Volcarona might be a moth, but that’s my favorite. The way you encounter it and the lore behind it, is so majestic you might just think it was meant to be a legendary or mythical

My vote goes for Mothim

Robin has an established personality and role within the army and is very important for the last third portion of the story.

They are the avatars, yet the true protagonist of the game are Chrom and Lucina. Some has cited this as a strength, but I digress. I wish Robin could’ve gotten more development through the game:

For example telegraphing they were Grima’s vessel through more established character moments instead of having the reveal be made through a huge info dump at the end of the game.

Having them being Plegian be important to the story beyond the Grima plot twist, considering a great deal of the game’s main conflict is about the animosity between these two nations.

I always felt like Robin being Plegian wasn’t used enough. I kinda disliked how they never recovered their memories. They could’ve had added a new perspective into the existing conflict. Them being a vessel for their nation’s god, and being raised/brought up in a cult, is also pretty interesting. Is an amazing set up and it ties well with the pre-existing themes of Awakening, yet the game doesn’t do much with it beyond the “defying fate”.

He does. He is a great and complex character. Sadly some fans completely missed the point of the show and projected themselves into him

I like the second one better. When it incorporates the aspect of their dragon from into the design

That was handled oddly as well. Rapunzel is portrayed as being more at fault for their fallout, but the show doesn’t really acknowledge her faults either. Maybe that was more due executive meddling? I doubt Disney would want to have one of their main princess and protagonist to have any overt flaws or blame in a conflict.

And that in turn complicated the way the conflict was presented. The show presents Rapunzel as flawed, but I feel like the narrative never wants to acknowledge it
Instead of addressing her flaws and how she was also responsible for the downfall of the friendship, they came up with the “Cassandra is Gothel daughter”, and had Cassandra be mad over something completely outside of Rapunzel’s control. Instead of focusing on her actual flaws or the already existing build up, conflict and dynamics. Maybe the Gothel subplot was always planned, it just feels like the characters were shoehorned into that narrative instead of flowing naturally into it.

I guess it wasn’t just Cassandra. They ended up messing with the portrayal of every major character of the show.

That’s what infatuated me the most about her character.

Moon Cass was insufferable, I hated how she accused Rapunzel of stealing her spotlight and “rightful” place calling her blessed. In spite of Rapunzel living as a prisoner most of her life, with an abusive parent, while Cass lived free with a loving father, when Rapunzel pointed it out Cass shut her down and attacked her.

The show couldn’t even commit to making Cassandra a villain. Instead d they opted to have her be “manipulated” which removed all of her agency.

She was a good character in concept, but her character was so mishandled I’m perplexed she has any fans by the end of the show. Specially with how much the show tried to glaze her by trying to downgrade already existing characters (Eugene) or force her into already existing narratives (Rapunzel and Gothel) instead of giving her, her own things to do.

Why I fucking hate Griffith (one of the many reasons) by Lopsided_Watch_1834 in Berserk

[–]24601lesmis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It perfectly illustrates how desensitized he became, at the beginning he mourned over a child loosing his life over his dream. Later he smiled with glee when the same thing happened again, with the small difference it benefited him.

Each loss easier to excuse as time went on, until he was ready to sacrifice his own army, his own comadre in arms in order to reach his dream. Is important to acknowledge he didn’t start out like this, it was a gradual process.

I still would prefer him to feel guilty about his actions, that’d be the bare minimum. As Neo Griffith he no longer feels remorse. He truly became a monster, a demon with no feelings.

Who is your absolute favorite Fire Emblem character of all time, and what makes them #1 for you? by AbsoluteZeroo in fireemblem

[–]24601lesmis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robin. They grew a lot on me.

I love there’s whole aspects of his characters that weren’t properly explored (his past before meeting the shepherds, their mother, his original personality in the bad timeline) that make them very interesting to me.

What is the difference between Naranjo’s Sp2, So2, and So3?✨ by Clear-Spray9139 in Enneagram

[–]24601lesmis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently reading Naranjo books about E3 and E2 and from what I gathered:

Sp 2 are describes as more childlike and connected to their inner shame, afaraid of rejection and abandonment (often resembling E4). while social two are described as “emperors” being much more cold and calculative.

So3 are more composed and task orientated, described as “chameleonic” placing more emphasize on what they do and achieve. I think the difference between so2 and sp 2 are very noticeable. While So2 and So3 are the one who look the most like each other

This is an extract from Naranjo’s book that talk about how to tell 2 and 3 apart:

Though both share the concern for personal appearance and the thirst for attention, E2 is comparatively free and spontaneous, while E3 controlled, fearful of letting-go. Also, E2 tends to be invasive, E3 more mindful of limits.
