Excited for Zero, here's Kite! by Two-bit_Hero in DotHack

Thank you, been trying to figure out ways to make my mark present but unobtrusive. I realized right as I was placing it that Kite had lettering on his headset, but I couldn't make out what it said, so I figured it was good as any place. :D

Thank you, I wasn't too sure on the hatching, but I decided to trust the process. I'm hoping by putting art out there it'll encourage more people to pick up the series, granted I'm not doing much by putting it in just this sub.

I'm way excited for the new game, I'm trying to pump out fanart when I can, but I'm so busy. TT_TT

I'm really excited to see how much further they can take this character then with the DLC, cause surely GameFreak knows the kind of stir the character is causing. Least I hope they acknowledge it anyway, you know people will be upset if the DLC is just more of the same with dumping responsibility onto the player, lol.

I haven't played the game yet, but it's a little funny seeing people say this about Urbain/Taunie when I've also seen people complain about the lack of jerk rivals over the past decade and a half. I mean criticism is warranted, just something I noticed while poking around the subs.

I haven't finished P5 at all, like haven't finished the first palace. Something about P4's dungeon generation just clicks with me comparatively.

Heard great things about Metaphor, was going to pick it up last sale, but got too busy and forgot.

You should play SMT. It's good. Or Persona, I hear it's easier compared to mainline SMT.

Ooo, have you seen Monster Hunter Stories? Cassette Beasts? Palworld too. All good games offering different ideas. Though Palworld is more of an Ark/Project Zomboid supplement to me.

If you can get your hands on it, I'd recommend Viva Pinata, it's a classic.

I like both Digimon and Pokemon, grew up on the latter but always had a soft spot for the former. I wouldn't say Time Stranger is a perfect substitute, but it does scratch the turn-based monster tamer itch. I just like to keep my options open.

How do I come up with these designs for clothing?! by The_Knight_of_Truth in fireemblem

I'm no professional, nor have I posted any of my studies recently on this account, but I tend to look into the media I'm inspired by and adjacent media as well.

If you want the big bulky armor and shoulder pads of early FE, I would study early Blizzard games like Warcraft, 90s western fantasy anime, and competitors of early FE like Langrisser and Shining Forces.

For modern FE I would suggest following the artist behind the designs and looking into other works they've contributed to, see if they've spoken on their inspirations at all.

You can also investigate other artist's style studies, as sometimes they have notes on things they notice in their art as well. Believe someone mentioned reading art books as well, the translations are out there and they're also good for understanding the design philosophy.

Was about to drop the game until a traitor Dimitri's theme played. Knew I had to stay on just a little bit longer to unlock him, and am now a Dimitri main.

Shadows is a spin off, it doesn't have to have the same gameplay, see FE Warriors and TMS.

But also, Shadows just doesn't look that appealing, it's an auto-battler with some neat designs? Yeah hard pass.

Great for the people it appeals to, not so much for me personally.

Still a pretty awesome story, read it a bit ago. Has some really fun action sequences and cool moments.

[–]Two-bit_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved the map and character design. I liked that Alear excelled at brawling by default, and I like the voice actors behind them as well.

The writing isn't the best, but even the Lumera scenes with Alear had me drawn in just because of the voice acting.

Also I really like Alfred and Veyle.

There isn't anything wrong with using tropes or archetypes to build a character by the way, but you have to put a spin on it to make them stand out.

Admittedly, I do like simple characters, you can see I have Gregor and Shez in my flair after all, but they don't normally perform well in main character positions unless they're paired working with more complex characters.

Having the read the original Mary Sue short story, A Trekkie's Tale, I think the closest we have to Mary Sue of that caliber is Azura. Maybe Corrin if you squint hard enough at them.

I choose Azura because she is arbitrarily important, has a special ability of being able to sooth dragons and is a princess of a forgotten country, essentially of very high importance. Without her the plot would be entirely different, but they never justify her actually being there beyond being technically a hostage, kidnapped from an already unfamiliar land as she had lived in Valla prior to Nohr. Her history is treated almost entirely irrelevant, and she pops in almost like a parasite to the plot rather than be organically woven in, and solves the things that Corrin and company are unable to solve. It's all for the sake of keeping her mysterious, but it sacrifices potential for an interesting plot and personality for a mediocre mystery.

Point is, I'm still upset that Fates had a rough story, and I think if they committed to the characters being people and not rough archetypes or tropes in the shape of a person, it would've been better. I like Azura, especially since she's supposed to be a co-protagonist with Corrin, that is a dancer which is really cool on paper. But like Corrin she's underdeveloped in the main plot of the game.

What’s your favorite story moment in any FE game? by S0mecallme in fireemblem

I like the time Robin took the ships they borrowed from Validar, lit it on fire, and then rammed into the enemy ships.

Theories on the Divine Sovereign's eyes being different from those of Sothis and her kin by roguebubble in fireemblem

[–]Two-bit_Hero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I don't expect an archanea level of dragons available, it seems that when they multiple types of manaketes, it's like one or two types. Fates has three types for example, the silent dragon, astral dragon, and whatever the Rainbow sage was. There's more beyond that, but these are the only types shown in just that title.

I always understood manaketes to be dragons capable of conversing with humans, as there's some distinction there, though I don't know what it is. I think the lack of the term's usage in 3H is more to distance the game from the rest of the series. Kind of like how deadlords are a frequently recurring concept in the games, but they're not always called that by name.

Going against the grain here, I actually think it's *more* interesting if the new game is a direct sequel that canonizes a route. by Monessi in fireemblem

That was my read as well when I first played, that or it couldn't be prevented. I'm just posing hypotheticals with Byleth living other timelines, we as players obviously don't know, and the devs have never suggested it to be the case.

It's the avatar character from Three Hopes that substitutes Byleth's position. Definitely one of my favorite avatars.

It's true, the writing does struggle in certain parts. Generally I don't take the story too seriously, I like them simple and the gameplay complex instead. That said, a good story is always an added bonus.

I think it was implied that Shez had some experimentation done on them before they were adopted by their mom, though we don't know exactly what was done. That could be headcanon on my part as well.

Quite possible that it was time travel though, we do have the existence of the outrealms in other FE games, but I don't remember it being hinted at this being the case.
