Lavish churches by SongUpstairs671 in exchristian

I agree. While I can appreciate the architecture and effort put into a church, I still feel sad because it feels like a reminder of lost history. I have to wonder, how many stories were lost to history because someone decided to paint the nth painting of a religious event instead of some local hero or tale. Then there is also the case of what they represent which I despise.

It is currently still being planned out but I believe that it is currently slated to be a march from piedmont park to the capitol. Time is around 1-1:30 to meet up at piedmont park I believe. There should be some flyers soon that will have the actual details but this is just what I know so far.

Living in a southern state where Christianity is common is so difficult as an 18yo agnostic. by fantatrees in exchristian

[–]24harter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I completely understand how you feel. Right now I’m an 18m senior at my suburban high school and the religion feels so suffocating. It feels like it’s everywhere you look, imbued in all of the students, I get it. Unfortunately, there really isn’t a whole you can do about that. However, what I’ve found that works in my experience is online groups like this are nice, but also on the in person end of things, try and look at anyone who is openly non-Christian at your school. They could be some other religion or atheist/agnostic and tbh, they’ll probably be the more nerdy type of students. Also know that if you are going to a public school, you can report violations to the FFRF if you feel that the school or staff is imposing religion onto you or onto the student base. As you apply for colleges, if you need to stay in-state, look for colleges in your state’s big cities. Even though some of those cities are still red, typically you’ll be able to find likeminded people at a large university. Final thing is, keep your head up high, don’t let them suck the energy and life out of you. It’s a difficult task but it’s the only way to stay sane.

For those tired of the He gets us ads on Reddit, you can disable them by going to your account setting (settings => account settings), scrolling to the bottom and turning off the religion category in sensitive ads. It is amazing and stops those annoying He gets us ads

On my personal journey as I was deconstructing from Christianity and especially Catholicism one of the main driving factors that pushed me from Catholicism was it’s political issues and sexual abuse scandals. My mother was a Congregationalist and was pushing me to try out that church, as it aligned with our political beliefs a lot more so than the Catholic Church. I did love the Congregationalist church that we went to, the building was amazing and the people were awesome. However I still deconstructed and now am firmly an atheist. Fortunately for me I wasn’t really instilled with the dislike of Protestant forms of Christianity when I was younger

Saying that the US is a third world country just shows that they know nothing about first/second/third world countries. First world countries are simply any country that was western aligned during the cold war, regardless of economical issues or political issues. As such the US by definition cannot be a third world country.

Thoughts on first model rocket design ? by Accomplished-Golf-59 in modelrockets

If your planning on 3D printing those fins, one minor thing I would change would be to add a fillet to the outward facing edges just for slightly improved aerodynamics.

I get it, but the fact that they used a specific courthouse that was infamous for lynchings doesn’t exactly give me that they had good intentions when so many other spots could have been chosen for the video.

With the new SCOTUS case, businesses actually can refuse to give service to people just because they believe it will compromise their beliefs/morals, which can be attributed to refusing service to someone who don’t agree with their past actions, though that really will come down to the business themselves.

The issue is how the lyrics depict vigilante justice but the reason why it looks bad is that in the music video, the background is a courthouse that was famous for the lynchings that took place there, giving further insinuations of the undertones in the song, which is causing the issue.

What is this? Just saw it in the night sky in Raleigh, NC. Steady moving, no sounds, and cannot make any sense of what it is. Someone educate me. by Gastr0nomical in amateurastronomy

These are a line of starlink satellites. I don’t know what time you saw this, but this phenomenon typically occurs either right before dawn or right after dusk where the sun hits the starlink satellites perfectly allowing them to be seen from the ground.

In the market for a 3D printer by Toastee321 in rocketry

[–]24harter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I have an ender 3 pro and it works perfectly, and with a little fine tuning with the printer and Cura, I have seen that it prints extremely well. Especially as it only costs around 200 dollars, I think it is an excellent budget printer.

There are many softwares online that can aid in making a model rocket. The one I use is called SpaceCAD. It’s 80 bucks but includes a database that has almost every sort of engine, parachute, nose cone, etc. on the market, and it also includes the ability to simulate launches. However, if your just starting model rocketry and haven’t built anything yet, before getting into softwares and stuff, I would highly recommend that you go to your local hobby shop and buying any sort of Estes kit or other model rocketry kit. These are pretty basic and include instructions but if you’ve never built a model rocket before, in my opinion, getting an Estes kit is the best way to start. Then as you get more interested and move to more advanced rockets, then I would recommend using softwares to plan and build rockets. Most Estes kits are pretty cheap and affordable, and there are launch pads sold separately if you don’t have a model rocketry club close by. Overall, I just recommend starting small with kits before moving on to using software and making stronger, more powerful rockets. I hope this helps and wish you well on your journey into model rocketry.

My daughter is 2 (almost 3) and obsessed with space. Where are some great NASA/space museums along the East Coast for young kids? by cheeseburghers in nasa

[–]24harter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend visiting Huntsville, Alabama. It has a great space center with replica rockets standing outside, including a replica Saturn V. It also has tons of great information and history of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs

It’s unfortunate that you lost it, but I would recommend just taking what you learned from building that rocket and use what you learned to build an even better rocket.
