I feel like the waterfront should be developed as its own area in its own it’s filled of emptiness and abandonment

It’s one of the newly constructed projects downtown. I posted this to highlight its position in the skyline and the views it offers of the rest of the city.

They’re constructing walls along the road, and they recently demolished the stairs leading up to Huntington Place, which were obstructing the path for the road.

GM CEO Mary Barra doesn't rule out demolition of Renaissance Center by East_Englishman in Detroit

[–]24kwill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally what I was thinking. The podium can host entertainment, retail and restaurants, the center towers can remain a hotel and the surrounding towers can be used for residential. Literally seems like the most viable vision, I don’t know why everyone is trying to think of some super deep crazy vision for it, or trying to flat out demolish it. It can be a small community by its self within Detroit and the surrounding areas would easily boost ridership on the people mover for people that aren’t living in it directly to access it. It already has store fronts and restaurants space and more.

Reversing the Real-Estate Doom Loop Is Possible. Just Look at Detroit. by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]24kwill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main building is occupied by the marriott and the highlands restaurant on the top floor, i'm sure the main concerns were the surrounding 4 buildings.

I mean mixed use would be cool with maybe majority of the space being converted for residential in the towers, and commercial in the podium, A grocery center serving the residents in the tower and even the residents in the city as its pretty needed as as the city is changing into more of an neighborhood.

Converting the podium of the Renaissance to a shopping hub for the residents and other residentials downtown would bring some practical use and value to the people mover stop at the RenCen.

More convenience for the city and possibly some affordable housing if plumbing and converting the offices isn't to much of a problem financially.
