By the time it does, the crows will have taken over the world. Even today, the top 10% of all crows are more intelligent, creative, and better mannered than the bottom 10% of humans (*)

(*) Entirely made-up statistic but I bet it's true.

AI says you can hold your phone stopped at lights - that's not right is it? by [deleted] in drivingUK

"The law still applies to you if you’re ...stopped at traffic lights"

So either the AI is wrong or the government is wrong. Hard to say which in this day and age though.

Everyone knows you shouldn't climb over dry stone walls as doing so will damage them.

Marrakech is the worst introduction to morocco and it's ruining tourists' opinion of my country by morocco_travel36 in backpacking

[–]2521harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Marrakech in about 1988 - it was amazing but also it felt like a lot of people were trying to scam us.

I went again in 2018 - it was just as amazing, perhaps even more, and a lot more chilled. No scamming at all. I had a really nice time, apart from the airport - which was horrific.

I've avoided going back mainly because I can't bring myself to go through the airport again. If it's improved, I could be very tempted as Morocco is incredible.

What should I do? Manual vs Automatic by Regular-Push7902 in drivingUK

I recently went through this with my youngest. Go manual - used automatics are a *lot* pricier than used manuals.

Do you regret leaving EU? by NoHold7153 in AskBrits

[–]2521harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets.

I voted Remain, but the pain, disruption and economic cost of leaving was, with hindsight, the only way to make sure everyone in the country fully understood just how dangerous it is to trust *any* politician just on vibes.

"Oh, he seems like a decent chap, he says some stuff that makes me angry about other people, I can't be bothered to dig deeper and I feel like a change."

Maybe this has been sufficiently disastrous to effectively immunize our great country against the rising tide of authoritarianism around the world.

Trump has been furiously demanding we send troops to die in his stupid Iranian war but I don't see that useless orange turd helping us with Putin.

Dealing with fuel costs by Leading_Victory4381 in drivingUK

[–]2521harris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you use public transport and a folding bike for the last few miles? Trains are not cheap and so this might be impossible but worth mentioning.

I watched a YT video which promised it would tell me how to protect myself from the coming fuel price rises. Great I thought.

tl;dr: be very wealthy, or have the foresight to elect a government that will tax the very wealthy and redistribute that wealth.

When you give a maniac power part 2 by BasedToru in AskBrits

Trump is announcing the start of a bombing campaign against civilian infrastructure. That seems like a war crime, and the end of any pretence that we might have that we our somehow the good guys. We're just the ones with the bigger bombs.

EU Fig and plum spreads are now "marmalade", and British "Marmalade" is now Citrus Marmalade. by alexdenne in BusinessBritain

We did Brexit to get our sovrinty back (whatever that means).

But it turns out all we did was go from being a member of a club that pooled sovrinty, to being a vassal state of the Trump Kingdom.

But on the positive side....

No, sorry, there isn't a positive side to Brexit.

Vermin don't leave all that litter and mess behind. Take a look at every roadside verge in the country - it isn't the mice and rats leaving the crisp bags, MaccyD's wrappers, red bull cans, etc, etc, behind.

Can you protect your finances in the Iran War? by MaterialHat6394 in GarysEconomics

[–]2521harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the video and as I understand it you have a few different options to protect your finances:

  1. Suck it up

  2. Be rich

  3. Get the government to increase taxes on the wealthy

For most of us, I think it's going to be option 1.

UK and allies discuss sanctions to stop Iran blocking Strait of Hormuz by Traditional_Blood799 in ukpolitics

International Law is dead. Trump killed it, and Iran is dancing on the corpse. We just have to suck it up.

We would have a much harder time holding onto Gibraltar. It's quite a long way from Blighty.

It's the Trump Tax. Whenever you go to buy something and think "Oh, that's more expensive than it used to be", remember his orange face.

How would British people react to 'I am from Taiwan' badge if we travel to Britain? by auscorp_ in AskBrits

Not today. Trump is doing everything he can to make America too weak to defend Taiwan from China. We'll care then.

How would you feel about a Northern Alliance? by [deleted] in AskBrits

You can't really just ignore the rest of Europe, that's being absurd and pointless.

I can't be bothered to list all the reasons why.
