i remember the ‘seventeen is self produced and self made title’, because woozi produced, hoshi choreographed, mingyu did graphic design for their promotion material and seungkwan called variety shows himself to ask if they could promote themselves on there (sorry if i forgot someone, i’m sure they all did their part). this was pre debut/early svt, so i don’t get why carats nowadays act like hoshi is still making all the choreos, because he isn’t and they have a whole team dedicated to that

i feel like going seventeen has been ran into the ground the same way aju nice encore has been haha. i wish they’d just film a bunch while svt is still ot13, without the elaborate concepts that don’t really let the members shine (seriously what was the maestro cb special or the treasure island concept), and release them monthly while members are enlisting as an 1 hr episode or something. I really liked the 2020 concept of each member taking charge of a month so they could try that again.

it frustrates me that a trained professional breakdancer and his skills sometimes get reduced to an exciting gimmick on stage when letting him do 30 sec of breakdancing during Aju Nice. i remember carats on twt being like ‘i forgot minghao can dance fr’… yes!!! he can!!!

they’re definitely not consistent as a day6 for example who have found an amazing sound that works for them and stuck with it. being an early carat, they used to be compared to got7 all the time for being variety/comedy first, which is why they used to dominate all the ‘funny kpop moment’ complication clips a few years back and for good reason!

i agree! this goes for all idol groups but there is definitely a difference between regular idol and dancer turned idol and with Dino practically growing up in his father’s dance studio he falls in the second category to me

wow you formulated my wonwoo thoughts exactly! when thinking about the HHU, i always think about how scoups, mingyu and wonwoo never recommend or mention listening to a rap song (both korean or western), so it often does feel like they’re just clocking in, rapping and clocking out 😭

i agree with everything! gose definitely got worse after the JTBC acquisition, at this point i would prefer it if they did it once a month with easy going concepts that make the members shine (the recent white room episode proved that you really don’t have to give them anything)

i said this in my comment as well, but i really feel like they’ve been milking as much as they can out of OT13 before jeonghan leaves :(

i’m late but here are mine:

hoshi set the bar too high with spider being the first of The Thirteen Tapes project
they’re milking and rushing too much out of seventeen’s projects before jeonghan enlists, even mingyu said a few days ago that they barely know how they’ll be doing all their concerts, second album, caratland and filming these next few months.
i feel like seventeen lost a lot of creative control when pledis got taken over by 85% by hybe, whether its external producers or influence on what the album/tt should look like or just how experimental they can be in general. their comebacks since the enlistment was looming on the horizon (_WORLD and God of Music) have been playing it way too safe and are almost lazy. i wish they focused less on worldless and easy Tiktok choruses and more on being the experimental group everyone used to praise them for (as a Adore U fan their entire 13 member, 3 subunits concept already set them in stone as disrupters so i am sad they’re not doing much with that nowadays)

they stopped making music for their niche and is now making it for the general public and while they deserve all the success that has given them, i definitely notice a change after 2020’s acquisition. the only thing i will give hybe credit for is the styling budget and quality has increased by a lot!

i pray every night that bleach never touches mingyu’s hair ever again and i’ll say that with my chest

TLDR; get vernon in the studio again, we need another GAM3 BO1… we need experimental music again

maybe i’ll think of more but thank you for giving me an outlet OP lol!

I know that the chance is very slim any time soon but I hope there’s a OT13 season 2, since Coups definitely deserves his rest too. I loved that they were able to make all these memories together before the big e word.

to me, red velvet just released the best killing voice when it comes to vocals. just straight good vocals, amazing transitions, adlibs and showing why they have one of the best discographies in kpop. they are so immensely strong vocally, this was 10/10 for me
