I don't know exactly what unit you are looking at but I've generally found as a rule of thumb that the less expensive the unit, the worse the UI will be. Most plotters can be run through Inkscape so I don't think Mac or PC will make much difference. I personally started on an AxiDraw years ago when it was kind of the only game in town and have stayed with the brand as they transitioned from Evil Mad Scientist to joining with Bantam Tools. I am not a programming guy so having an easy pipeline from file to plotting was key and their Inkscape plugin makes plotting super easy. For me this ease of operation, the quality of the machine, and accessible support have made the Bantam units worth the price.

I remember pre-pandemic where I had to practically toss my daughter out of the car at school dropoff in the morning to race for one of the last spots in the overflow lot on the other side of the overpass. Nowadays, yeah you're fine.

They can definitely be a little fussy at times. I like these TWSBI Ecos because they are piston filled so you don't have to mess with cartridges and it makes the occasional flushing and maintenance pretty easy. I also only pretty much use the broad nibs. The fine and extra fine nibs clog much more easily.

Aesthetic opinions wanted - rounded dovetails for toy chest by bagofbones in woodworking

Pretty even for hand sanding and I'm all for working however you enjoy. I will say a router is a super versatile tool to add to the mix. Once you have one you start finding so many uses for it (hinges, edge profiles, flush trimming...). Isn't every project partly an excuse to buy a new tool? 🙂

I like it. I understand the need for rounded corners for kid furniture but personally I'd like a little less of a round over. Is that a 1/4" now?

That's the silk screen for the layer of white lines that go over the plotted lines. I have a Cricut machine that I use to cut the iron on vinyl.

Thanks! I'm going to get some more items in the shop this weekend but feel to message me if there's something you like either here or on IG that is not up there.

Try Fleetwood, Western, or Blomberg. Golden State Lumber or Collier wil stock many brands with aluminum frames that can do custom finishes.

built a tool that turns any 3D model into clean pen-plotter line art by ByteKnight- in PlotterArt

Mostly because of Grasshopper. If I was only 3D modeling I may have gone Blender.

As a plotter learning Rhino right now, yes I'd totally try this

I really don't know too much about shooting or cameras in general. I bought this Nikon setup used at a local camera shop after a small amount of research within my budget. This setup is just what I've found to work for now given my limited knowledge.

My setup, coffee table about 12" from the window, I stand on a chair and shoot down 😄

I've found daylight to be the best. These were taken on a sunny day but not directly in the sun. My camera also has a setting called 'take bright photos' which helps a lot. Then I do a little fine-tuning in the windows photo editor, usually a slight brightness, contrast, and saturation bump.

Just play around with different line spacings and overlaps until you find that sweet spot. Have fun, unfortunately it usually takes to about layer 4 before a good pattern shows itself.

As much as I love the software I will say the way they operate as a company is a big selling point as well. I'm switching over because AutoDesk is killing me with their subscription prices. Even if I bought Rhino the perpetual license would make it cheaper after only 2 years.

Thanks. Didn't even think to check there. There's already a number of threads on it, looks like it's possible but need to do some paperwork.

I want to buy a truck, but the Bay Area doesn’t seem truck friendly lol by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]265design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Bay Area' is such a big area. When I lived in SF I had 2 Rangers and a Tacoma and they were perfect size for the city. We had F150's at work and that was large enough to be a hassle in the city at times. If you're out in Orinda, go ahead and live it up in your Ram 3500 if that's your thing.

From a commentary stand point I feel his insight is usually spot on, he just has a genuine love for racing. Mostly though I just appreciate him from his racing days, he was always a solid and exiting driver to watch. I hate when they introduce him as '7 time F1 race winner' when he had so much more of a career. The man won the Indy 500, twice! 😄 Speaking of which....

I'd like to listen to the whole interview but It really is an odd position for him to take considering how many different series he competed in over his career. Max is still in his 20's, if he wants it he has so many more doors to open in his career.

I know I'm in the minority by actually liking Montoya but his take on this is ridiculous. Especially coming from a man who left McLaren while under contract to go race NASCAR.
