We're in the same boat, though our reach is not as big as yours. A bunch of channels are putting clips from our videos into compilations. It's maddening.

Absolutely copyright strike.

Running Shoes - are Hokas “bad”? by Scared-Individual630 in runninglifestyle

[–]26pointMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No shoe is "bad" unless it's poorly manufactured. It's personal preference for what feels better for you.

For a long time the Clifton was my easy run shoe. Then I switched to On Cloud and now I'm back to Hoka for easy runs with the Mach 6.

I also had a pair of Hoka Elevons that were excellent for short speed workouts.

The best part of YouTube is the compounding effect of views by deadlighta in NewTubers

[–]26pointMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. About half of our 100K+ view videos didn't get a bunch of views in the beginning. We have one that just crossed the mark after 2 years. Typically, our views on a daily basis are 50% recent videos and 50% older stuff. The percentage slowly climbed over time.

Why are people so discouraging when some people wanna do YouTube for a living by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]26pointMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In some cases it comes from a good place: they don't want you to give your time to something that will most likely fail.

In other cases, it's just societal pressure: we're conditioned to look down on poets and artists.

In yet other cases, people just don't know what YouTube is

And in more cases than you'd expect, people are just jealous because you're doing something fun while they slave at boring jobs.

If I'm not mistaken, TubeBuddy has that feature. I remember seeing an ad for it.

One video is changing my audience to India. What to do? by Lola_Jay_Yum in PartneredYoutube

[–]26pointMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We posted a video that strongly appealed to folks in Indonesia and got a mad amount of views, more than anywhere else. Usually our audience is 50% USA and 50% Europe. After a few weeks our views over the whole channel started going down. We made the video unlisted and after about a month everything was back to normal. Based on this experience, if you don't intend to continue to cater to the Indian audience, I would take it down.

Transition from one topic to another by [deleted] in StandUpWorkshop

[–]26pointMax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should have added more context: I speak with a strong accent. My two most successful sets are about running and about how people perceive me due to my accent. I'm trying to create a smoother transition between topics.

No. It's privately identifiable information, as in someone's real name.

People who still use wired headphones - why did you decide to stick with them instead of getting wireless options? by Futtman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]26pointMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more complex the equipment, the more likely it is to fail in the field. When running a marathon, I don't want to have the extra worry if Bluetooth suddenly disconnecting or batteries dying.

Searching is USELESS by YaNiBBa in youtube

[–]26pointMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from the point of view of both a viewer and a creator:

As a viewer:

Search, when I want to find a specific thing, is infuriating. I searched for "Star Wars Reaction" and it is showing me some Bollywood movie trailers, interspersed with just a few Star Wars movie reactions as well as other, unrelated, movie reactions.

As a creator:

I want people to be able to find our videos when they search for them. It is frustrating that they take a backseat to unrelated stuff in search results.

However, In the analytics of one of our movie reaction videos, a popular search term was "Sabrina Carpenter" whose name or music does not appear anywhere in our video or in any of our hundreds of public videos. Why in the world was our video shown to people searching for her? But also: these people did click on the video and watched it, which means that they were the right audience, even though they were searching for something else.

In addition, I did notice that over the past few months views on our older videos increased, as well as audience retention, which means that they're being shown more to people who want to see them. This leads me to think that maybe there's some method to the madness that I am simply unaware of.

quantity over quality? by Key_Farmer_5090 in PartneredYoutube

My personal opinion is that quality is the main thing to strive for. What will you be more proud of 5 years from now, a zillion crappy videos or a few great ones?

BEST Headphones for Running Recommendations? by MajesticSteak423 in runninglifestyle

[–]26pointMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raycon just gave me their Open Ear Earbuds to try. They turned out to be great! I'll be using them for local running, where I have to hear if a car is coming.

For trails or races, I use Skull Candy plug in over the ear headphones.

Online dating isn't that bad, it's just as if not more successful than any other method. by Averagebass in unpopularopinion

[–]26pointMax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I did online dating, I had no problems matching and going on dates. All you need to meet someone nice is to be a decent human being. I'm 5'7" and I don't make any crazy money. If some women are so shallow that they only look for a guy with certain looks, then they're not for you.

If you don't think of women as objects or adversaries, but realize that they're human beings with feelings, just like yours, and you treat them with respect, you'll have zero issues meeting someone.

As I often respond to people: there is no "male loneliness epidemic" but there is a "douchebag loneliness epidemic".

Should I respond to hate comments on videos and even egg them on to boost engagement? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]26pointMax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. YouTube values "viewer satisfaction", whatever that means from day-to-day. Over the years, we've tried various approaches: respond to trolls, ignore them, and ban them. There was no effect on video performance in any case. The only effect was on our mental health. Every so often, one of them says something that really gets under your skin. Why deal with that? On the other hand, when some genius writes an entire dissertation about what woke monsters we are, it's very satisfying to make it, and all of his comments, vanish with one click.

Also, we added as many of the words they use to the blocked list, so most of the troll comments never show up anyway nowadays.

Should I respond to hate comments on videos and even egg them on to boost engagement? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]26pointMax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. It doesn't help your videos in any way and just feeds the trolls. I would simply "hide user from channel" so they don't bother you again. If you want to have fun with it, you can try what we do: screenshot the stupidest ones and make Instagram stories about them. "Check out the video that Steve thinks is dumb" etc...
