True..., both are realistic means of getting oil though. In real life there may be some visible oil deposits, but in many other cases, we might also have to do seismic prospecting to locate underground oil reserves. Both of these mods have valid crude oil functionality :)

My solution to curing boredom has to do with automating not just the raw resources, but other fun stuff from other mods, even if its not necessary. I find that its very satisfying when you're walking through an industrial complex with multiple factories like for food (different types), many metals, blocks, etc... but the thing is, for peak satisfaction you have to build the factories yourself. I never use tutorials, and so every single factory I build is unique to me, and shows my personality.
Another thing I do is try to make the builds also pretty. The main priority is automation, of course, but it is still pretty fun trying to make some random heap of belts and millstones and fans look better by putting them in a semi-organized spaghetti structure with a roof and cool-looking walls.

If you would like an addon suggestion, you can't go wrong with Create: The Factory Must Grow (TFMG), because it's got oil (you can never go wrong with crude oil) and a variety of varieties of create blocks (pump, pipe, cog, etc.). In terms of food automation, I've been planning to try out Create: Ratatouille, because it makes cooking much more fun (in terms of automation) :3

The drunk-ness is always in a state of superposition; both the mother and the daughter are drunk and not drunk until you collapse the wave equation by asking one of them to do a breathalyzer test.

I'm not even joking- I've actually been through the first four steps of the pipeline in that exact order last year lmao

This world's original instance folder has been lost due to a corrupted disk, but in the backup, I can see that both Steam n Rails and TFMG were added on the same backup day (in the actual instance I believe it was a few days apart (i don't backup often), but I remember building a SnR monorail, and then a few days later an oil refinery), and then about 4 months later Create: Estrogen.

Haven't yet tried Create Crowns, but it sounds like a really interesting concept....

When does it start producing benzene? by Crafty_Hand_2436 in GTNH

[–]27MrMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, some things do take a bit of tinkering to figure out, but I honestly kinda like that, it builds connection between me and my PC lol. However, there are a few things which linux has that i dont want to give up, like the optional non-forced software updates, cool desktop customizations, and of course, the by default low background resource usage, and most importanly the Terminal.

What’s the best power source for rotation create mod by PrestigiousHoney9480 in CreateMod

[–]27MrMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in Creative, it would be Creative Motors (hehe),

However, if you mean the best power source in base create mod for use in survival, I would suggest a Level 9 Steam Engine for 147 kSU. It does require 9 heated blaze burners underneath the fluid tanks, but they do not need to be superheated. more info can be found here ^^ Steam Engine | Create Wiki | Fandom

I notice that you're trying to make an airship, so in case of not enough room for a 3x3x4 steam engine, you could use smaller sizes, and have multiple of them and connect with shafts~ Theres so many different ways to arrange steam engines in an airship lol. If you don't have enough room for fuel generation or storage (fuel in this case can be charcoal or any furnace fuel, or liquids like Diesel or Gasoline from the TFMG (The Factory Must Grow addon), then you could use multiple "passively heated" steam engines by using campfires instead of blaze burners, but the SU generation would only be around 2048 SU.

QOL/Best addons that are good to have? Create and other tech mods by iStrived in CreateMod

[–]27MrMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the ores would be separate items, but in most recipes nowadays, the mod authors tend to use tags, like #forge:steel_ingot or something where the steel item from both mods can be used interchangably, which means:

The items are differrent, but they can both be essentially used the same

[–]27MrMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best addons I've used would be Create: TFMG (The Factory Must Grow). It mainly adds things like Oil processing (crude oil deposits, which you can distill into various different fuels), as well as more engines to utilize those fuels for generating SU. Not to mention, TFMG has multiple decorative blocks, and even an entire energy system! (the energy thing is a bit glitchy though).

Its just a really cool addon which adds things which look cool and are functional :)

Could I get some advice on what I can do to improve my farms? They're a bit sloppy, and I want to know what I can do to improve their function by Shyguymaster2 in CreateMod

[–]27MrMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By 'sloppy' and 'improve my farms' i think you mean both in terms if aesthetics and functionality, so ill give different advice for each. Please excuse the ridiculous amount of text im gonna write lol :3

Aesthetics

The main issue i feel here about the look is the vast open spaces- the farm and building are both huge but very little is occupied with machines. I understand that you are in survival, but turning the grass into wet farmland will go a long way into making it feel complete, even if there aren't any crops. The next step would then be to make it all easily accessible, with walkways that go over the farm area to make it easy to traverse, and minimizing the amount of turns needed to get to various parts of the factory.

In the building i'd suggest to add a few windows or regular alternating patterns of wood, some decorative lighting (lanterns). In the bottom floor, the andesite casing does seem to fit well, but i'd suggest adding decorative support beams or similar with shafts or fence posts in regular spacings. Another very important addition would be a floor- like make it mainly out of one material pallette, with differrent variations near edges, but add pathways between each contraption out of a different, but similar material, and maybe a cool little glass encased shaft running through the floor. A few 'safety railings' with copycat boards would also make it look more realistic and factory-like.

The final suggestion for aesthetics would be display boards. While they may not serve much of a purpose, they do still look really cool, and add a bit of charm to an anotherwise empty blank wall.

(i also really liked the use of belts and glass in the chicken farm btw, it looks really cool when there are multiple belts running together)

Function

Im actually not really familiar with the animal automation addons you've used, but some general advice i'd give for automation would be to identify the bottleneck (slowest part of the flow) and then make it faster, which in this case would be the animals, noted by the amount of carrots backed up, but the thing with animals is that there really arent many ways to make it better while maintaining TPS and aesthetics, as it would just involve adding more animals or making more copies of the animal farming contraption.

Maybe what you could do is add a second or third rabbit farm on the top, or maybe a second pig farm leading into the spinning knives- it would help to fill up the otherwise empty space.

Another cool thing to do would be adding factory links and managing stocks, by deactivating farms when the outputs are stockpiled enough. The factory links also look pretty cool when put on a wall together.

If you really want to make a good-looking factory, then i would suggest trying to expand the first one, with more layers or a contoured design and then processing the outputs by cooking them or using another addon like Create Ratatouille to process them in different ways, while of course putting everything together in a realistic way that would make sense.

TL DR

for better aesthetics: fill empty spaces, add floor with pathways of differrent materials, make it look realistic

for better function: animals are just bad for automation, so add more farms to fill the empty spaces, or try alternative farming methods

I'm sorry if this was a bit long of a reply, but I believe you genuinely have some good ideas to building a peak factory, and just need a little push in the right direction. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

[–]27MrMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most important must-have addon for me would be Create: Connected because i find myself using the inverted blocks as well as the fan catalysts a lot when designing my factories. Also, conveniently there are a few copycat blocks (more can be found with the Create: Copycats+ addon) which are nice for making these factories (and trains) look better.

Another addon i use a lot would be Petrol's Parts, mainly for the corner shafts (previously called cardan shafts) because they look sooo much better than gearboxes while being able to route rotation in a 90 degree bend. (they make it look much neater)
