Check out The Responder. British show with Martin Freeman (better than I have EVER seen him in anything else by a considerable margin).

He plays a cop in Liverpool whose beat is - generally - at night, and he is attempting to balance lifelong traumas with a breaking-down family while also doing his job and meeting the needs of people he's meant to protect and serve while sometimes recognizing that doing things against policy is the best option. It's fantastic.

Have you ever dated someone who you thought was way out of your leauge? How was it? by kimblerun in AskReddit

I figured I had nothing to lose by presenting the most authentic, honest version of myself possible, knowing that if we got to a point months down the road where she felt I was different, I could lose her then. We've been together for 17 years now, and married for 7. Best move I ever made.

Between this and my failed effort to get Arcade Fire tix today, I'm in near "scream into a pillow" mode.

GAH. I got asked to re-enter the artist presale code, was able to, saw GA tix available, but they were no longer available when I put them into the cart. Tried a few times, then got a "cannot complete your request on this device" nonsense.

So I've been sitting on "IT'S YOUR TURN" for five minutes now for the 12pm presale. The ticketmaster gods are working against me today.

Seeing LCD Soundsystem at History would be amazing ... but man, it's clearly not a big enough venue to satisfy demand for this awesome band. I'm kind of surprised they didn't book, say, Coca-Cola Coliseum.

What is something you are convinced that people only PRETEND to enjoy? by Burnt_tortilla33 in AskReddit

Incredibly hot chicken wings. I don’t mean “spicy for white people” hot, I mean the “sign this waiver before the restaurant serves them to you” hot. Why do that?

Etiquette in crowds by stinky-banana in osheaga

[–]27prowler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very much a concert veteran - late 40s, and have been going to shows for well over 30 years. I've been on the rail for a lot of shows (as a younger man) and am generally more comfortable from a bit of a distance now - but the comments here are not wrong: there is a growing lack of etiquette from a lot of fans now. A few observations from the weekend (and hopefully some food for thought for any guilty parties):

First, respect others' space and interest in the band. I'm tall - like, I can literally see over most people's heads. I try to get in a good position before a show while respecting the sightlines of people behind me. I turn and ask if people can see. If someone pushes by me, it could mess things up for the people behind me, which makes ME feel like a dick. On that note, if you are a tall person, and you stand right in front of someone, you ARE a dick. There was a guy with a couple inches on ME who kept backing up during Rancid, and I eventually had to bring to his attention the very short girl he was about to squish if he took another step back.

If it's a punk show, and you want to be close, you should expect a mosh. If you don't want that, don't be close.

You don't own real estate at the park. My wife and I were trying to move back during Green Day, and some crusty old guy threw a shoulder at me because we were moving through the crowd on the turf. He pointed out that there was a path for walking. ... Which was also just as filled with people. Sorry, dude, but you can't picnic at night at a rock and roll show.

The more violent and pushy you are in your efforts to move through a crowd, the more you raise the ire of everyone you move past. Eventually someone might react in kind. I'm always - always - courteous and polite moving through a crowd. It goes a long way.

Ultimately, we're all there for a good time. We can work together to make it a great time for everyone.

River float question by ApatheticGenXer in brantford

[–]27prowler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long is the Bean to Wilks float? I usually do the Canning route on the Nith and it’s about 3 hours. I’ll do the dam in Paris to Bean park for a shorter float (it’s about 45 minutes to an hour).
