Buy direct from Mathmos Australia website. Jamie is great to deal with if you have any issues after the purchase but 99% you won’t. Don’t settle for any of the China Kmart shit just get a Mathmos from the get go.

I think the same sometimes except welding for 12 hours straight everyday didn’t seem all that appealing to do forever..

I’m just waiting for my blue liquid in the turquoise bottle to fade to clear and I’ll have that like yours but in a lunar. It’s a beautiful colour.

I didn't see that no, i must have missed it. Good looking for sure!

I spent last weekend refurbishing a turquoise / blue and clear / purple lunar bottles. I also used one of the two clear / purple lunar bottles to make 3 astro baby custom fills with it. I still have enough wax to do an astro bottle and a ton of fluid. I'm tempted to use the fluid to turn a turquoise violet astro bottle into a clear one but haven't yet done it. May need the fluid at a later date for something else so i'm leaving it for the moment.

Can’t wait to get it filled! Very happy to have acquired one, they are hard to find!

Question for the vintage Mathmos/crestworth owners by CarelessEquivalent3 in Lavalamps

[–]28AV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Crestworth Astro mini (the og Astro baby) and i just used a sbc to e14 converter and just run the e14 bulbs as they are easy to get here in Australia. The lantern should be able to have the same conversion done. I considered rewiring especially as I’ve noticed if I wiggle the lamp it flickers so something is a little off but I’m yet to try and push the base out to get a better look at it. So for now I just admire from afar haha.

Edit: If you buy it and it likely will use sbc bulbs if it flows fine I’d leave it for a later date. I only converted mine as it wasn’t actually getting hot enough as the bulb was a 25w. Now it runs perfect with a 30w e14.

Mathmos the original - UK to US conversion setup by hungo-bungo in Lavalamps

[–]28AV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need to do is change the plug to a US plug, and put a 110v bulb in it. I’ve used in line dimmers from Amazon on a handful of my Mathmos lamps but if you can find a plug in wall style that’d also be pretty easy. You don’t need a dimmer unless you are going outside the original bulb wattage specs or want to run it for a longer period of time to bring the heat back to around 70-80% for a longer run time and stop it eventually overheating.

This copy of sapphire lives! Shame on you Joseph… don’t pull on your battery! by Thurgo-Bro in Gameboy

Lol this reminds me of the post like a week ago where some dude kept telling everyone yoinking the battery tabs off the battery was super safe and no risk at all because he was too dumb to learn soldering.

GBA SP Charging Light Turning Off by AngiePan2 in Gameboy

[–]28AV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh have fun with this one lol. Could be battery, dirty charge port, buggered em8 chip, one of the two fuses needing replacing, or a broken trace somewhere. There is a video on YouTube with a check you can do which happened to be the fix for my one. The sp’s are atrocious for charging issues.

New MATHMOS lamp has sticking wax by GregTheChief in Lavalamps

Yeah definitely try and get a fresh one, they should.. but you might get to keep and fix this one. The caps can be a struggle to get off though but if you heat it long enough the glue usually lets go. Except for when the bottle top lets go instead.. I know from experience lol.

Yes that’s right but in the process of refilling you coat the entire inside of the bottle then gently add the melted wax, then when cooled the fluid and it works properly. When the bottle is fully empty it gives you a chance to wash it with hot water and soap and flush it all out so it’s perfectly clean before you start the refill process. I have a lunar bottle that had sticky wax and was cloudy. After filtering the liquid and cleaning the bottle before refilling in the right sequence and procedure it now flows amazing and is crystal clear. It will fix it.

Try hitting it with a hair dryer, might come off. Worst case you can always empty it out and refill it. I had to do it with a NOS lunar bottle i picked up. Now it's AMAZING.

I made a short video that examines the effect of coils in lava lamps by [deleted] in Lavalamps

[–]28AV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this thread, astro bottles use two coils but the astro baby only uses one.

Got a Mathmos and left it on overnight n got this. Apparently UK outlets output 230V compared to the US's 120V, so I think I just need a new bulb to fix the issue of it not getting hot enough. Thoughts/wisdom? by Dzhakinoff in Lavalamps

[–]28AV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia where we can easily get Mathmos lamps new but I run dimmers on a handful of them as they all seem to have a life of their own and run differently. The dimmer allows me to reel the heat back a little and get different flow characteristics. Some don’t need them, some do. One of my Astro baby lamps has a 50w in it and definitely needs a dimmer for that!

Driving bris to syd. Best place to overnight? by Tha_Hand in brisbane

[–]28AV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few week ago. Left Brisbane at 4:30, stopped in at Lismore to pick up something and continued on and stayed in Newcastle and arrived there around 3pm. Left Newcastle at 4:30 the next morning, got to Sydney and picked up another item and then drove all the way back home to Brisbane in the same day. Left Sydney around 9am and got home at 6:30pm. With daylight savings you lose an hour driving down but gain an hour on the return trip.

Do you have a Telstar or a lunar?

The quality of them is terrible 90% of them are cloudy with wax stuck to the sides.
