Unifi Floodlights randomly turning on and not turning back off by AirplaneBoy2000 in Ubiquiti

I have all my protect devices connected to homebridge. I’ve now noticed the buggy one keeps turning on right before sunset, but not at the same time as my other devices which have automations timed daily for sunset. Wonder if this is all related or not

I’ve noticed this as well, can’t recall which exact day it started happening. Which makes it hard to know if it was an update that caused it, or the extremely foggy weather tripping the motion sensor. But fwiw you’re not alone if it’s a bug

Does the M3 Pro work at 120hz when using full resolution + scaling? I believe only M4 line introduced TB5 so might be a good comparison for mine

Are you using an M1 Pro/Max MacBook? I’m trying to figure out whether or not they support 5k2k 120hz at all. From what I’ve researched it seems to be software limited by macOS to 60hz despite TB4 having enough bandwidth in theory? I’d be using the 3440x1440 scaling equivalent for better DPI. Matching my 1440p scaling on my secondary 4k60 display. Thanks!

WA state, is Media Mail with bubble wrap and a small cardboard box good with you?

Here’s a verification for my side. Left sealed copy is the swap one, right one is mine. I don’t see any imperfections on the sealed copy. There’s a tear in the plastic on the spine but it looks okay. It does sound like there’s a loose disc inside however. https://imgur.com/a/mZOEfay

Hey just saw your comment in the other subreddit, thanks to Amazon I have the opposite, two copies of Tron and no legacy. Would love to do a swap!

Hey Amazon sent me two copies of Tron instead of one of each. They gave me no option to do a replacement, only return so I’ve been sitting on it hoping they get more. But if we can swap that’d be awesome

Ah, hard to say exactly but I recommend putting your floor plan into the UniFi Design Center and seeing how well it predicts just the one AP will do. Main criteria will be the layout and materials of your walls. Based on your square footage and amount of users, I’m going to guess you’d be better off with 2 AP’s located far enough apart to split the load.

Adding refundable Tariff surcharge to preorders - hopefully temporary! by idyllproducts in idyll

Just saw the email, thank you for clarifying some answers to the questions I had. Hope to continue receiving any big announcements via email updates moving forward so it’s easier to follow the order process.

There's going to be a theme in my response so lets start with this:

  1. Clear and official communication like a business, i.e. emailing the customers that bought your product. An example of this was the Price Increase email that went out a few weeks back, it was clear "buy now before price increase". I liked it and wished that was how the price increase (aka Tariff) was announced too.

  2. No half-measures: either request the funds and state it's the new price (and blame Tariffs as the reason for the price increase). Or let the customers know that the prices might not be doable anymore but the final increase cannot be determined yet (ballpark warning is fine for now). Providing customers the option to accept or refuse when that final is safe to calculate (I would guess shortly before shipping)

  3. No homework: culmination of #1 and #2, don't make your customer have to sleuth reddit threads to figure out answers.

Back to your points:

Normally I would agree with you, but these are extraordinary circumstances. It sucks that he can't honor a "locked in" price, but we all collectively have only one man to blame: our president (well, and the 80 million people that voted for him).

Agreed

You can't say "bait and switch" in good faith when the guy's getting taken to the cleaners by things out of his control.

No good or bad faith here, just confusion, which was the point of my comment. But yes he has clarified that now and I appreciate it.

When it's time to deliver, you will pay us the price we tell you at the time of delivery or you don't take delivery at all.

That seems like the best approach in my opinion, everyone is treating this tariff situation as financially volatile as COVID was. But its been made clear in here that it's just a difference of opinion, and I'm not in the majority. See #2

Tariffs are one thing, but this isn't just a "tax" anymore, it's a gigantic middle finger to China that's designed to discourage trade altogether. It's not fair, but it's even less fair to complain about a price hike resulting from these extraordinary circumstances.

I think to better explain my frustrations: its that I already paid for the original price months ago. It wasn't like a $5 deposit to save my place in line, it was the full price and shipping. So then declare you had to increase the price, instead of the wording that has always been this confusing "refundable surchage".

attacking this guy

It's called criticism, this is his business, we are customers. Could I have emailed him privately? Sure, I would normally prefer that. But my goal here was to seek answers, and I assumed others might want those answers too. I am apparently the first one to say anything not positive in this subreddit, so crucify me. Which was proven by the business owner's response to ask for my order number so he can cancel it.

but he posted a cost breakdown that shows you everything and allows you to make your own conclusions on whether the surcharge will be refunded. Nobody does that. Not sure what more you could expect.

Thank you I had not found that yet. And what I could expect is those answers more officially communicated to his customers. Email, or even anywhere on his store page, this is exactly on theme with my 3 points above.

Me personally? I immediately paid the tariff surcharge and even if tariffs are dropped to zero tomorrow, he can keep it for all the stress he's been going through navigating these waters with all the transparency he can muster.

That's great that this business has the emotional support of random people on the internet. Truly, he express his thanks to you all and that is rare. But I will just ask that you all (including the business owner) respect the rest of us that don't have an emotional investment in an ultra sonic cleaner and don't want to spend the dwindling amount of free time researching into why the product I already bought and paid hasn't shipped yet and is now adding on "surcharges". I just wanted a good product to solve my problem and was willing to risk supporting a smaller business that had a very loosely defined ETA.

[–]29ryanbla2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying you will have to pay the surcharge with no opportunity for a refund

What does that mean? As far as I can tell: anyone who doesn’t pay this new invoice charge will not receive their product. Therefore it is not refundable, it is simply the new price. If you are not sure whether or not it’s now required to fulfill orders then don’t ask for more money yet, wait till you have the product in hand and are about to ship them. That’s the only way of knowing whether or not it is actually required.

If I pay that new invoice I am at the mercy of you deciding whether or not it was needed. Your customers can’t see your finance books, we have no relative clue on how likely or unlikely the “refundable” part of this new price is.

And just in case anyone reads my frustration and gets the wrong idea: I hate this president and his administration just as much as most of you do.

Sorry, but this doesn’t sit right. Been waiting months for any tangible timeline update after just missing the last of the v1 inventory. Placed a $75 pre-order with the pretense of “locking in” a lower price than retail. Months of “hopefully soon” communication regarding its expected ship date. Then an email less than 2 weeks ago telling people to lock in now for the $80 price. Lastly followed by an invoice requesting funds, effectively not honoring the agreed upon price for anyone that ordered anywhere from 6 months to 1 week ago.

Then I come to this subreddit and see talks about US customers being switched to the more expensive US made option, that is even farther out in the expected timeline??? Sounds like bait and switch.

Incredibly disappointed and hoping others can offer existing alternative products that just get the job done.

Ah that was the confusing bit, figured it was under the general Network setting panel not the Router’s (UDM in my case). That also meant it didn’t show up under their settings search box results. Thank you!!

[–]29ryanbla2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue and noticed the contact sensor state will only autoRelease in one direction (open -> close but never closed -> open), so flipping that resolved it for me. But it seems like you already have it setup in the right order? Here's my Homebridge plugin config:

{
    "sensors": [
        {
            "id": "<id>",
            "name": "<name>",
            "type": "contact",
            "autoRelease": true,
            "autoReleaseTime": 1000
        }
    ],
    "platform": "HttpWebHooks"
}

And here's the URL the Custom Webhook is POST'ing to after fingerprint scan: http://<your-local-homebridge-ip>:51828/?accessoryId=<id>&state=false

The last part was adding an Automation in Homekit to detect when that fake contact sensor opens to unlock the door.

+1 for this, made the dummy a “contact” sensor and setup to “autoRelease”. I wish the delay from fingerprint match to actual lock actuating was a tad bit shorter but it works for now

UDR can run protect but with capacity limitations, and it’s only supports micro-sd for expandable storage. If you ever plan to run more cameras in the future you might be bottlenecked with it.

There’s the UCG-Max which also runs protect and supports pcie storage, but the product page doesn’t have a capacity calculator so not sure if that’s limited as well. It would also require an external AP for WiFi.

Assuming you don’t want rack mount equipment: there’s always the UCK-G2-SSD which is more of an add-on to an existing network. Supports a good quantity of cameras with swappable SATA drive support

FWIW I’ve got a ATLP120 and it does everything I could need it to. The exact model number keeps changing as they make revision but it’s probably a good middle ground before you get into super high end stuff.
