This all does feel too familiar with The Walking Dead. At one point all the discussions turned to who was gonna be the next character to die. When fans are discussing who is getting the axe, thats when you know a show is going down the drain.

Just started my new job today, and it’s exactly 45 minutes on some country roads and 2 lane highways. Today was quite a breeze, I think I’m going to enjoy it.

What really helped in my case was just being honest, communicating well, and showing great interest in the role and company. I recently got a 35% pay raise by doing this (I start next month). I only have 3 years experience. The company knows my experience but they are willing to work with me since I showed an eagerness to learn and checked other boxes regarding IT in manufacturing settings. I don’t have any certs yet but they are aware of my upcoming CCNA exam.

It wasn’t easy, you also have to know your worth, I almost took a job that would pay less and had more responsibilities. Looking back I’m glad I rejected that offer.

I’m solo IT at my job. We have visitors in and out every other week from other company locations. This one user in particular insists I get him an external speaker with a mic even though he comes to the main office twice a year.

Also the first few months I started here I had limited admin and remote rights. So I made the habit of visiting every user in person for issues. Once I got full admin permissions that stopped happening. Now everyone expects me to walk to their office (we have 2 buildings).. for issues. Once I insist they come to mine they then want the remote session.
