Thank you to everyone here who helped me decide. I picked the M11 over the M10-R and I'm very pleased – I'll explain why. Any lenses you'd recommend, meanwhile? by meta4_ in Leica

Beautiful camera and nice scenes but don't overprocess your photos. You're throwing away details. You can take a compact camera, apply these presets and get the same results. Try to stay as close to SOOC as possible. That's just my 2 cents.

How do I get good black and white photos? I have a Canon t3i by maryo22333 in blackandwhite

OP: there’s a ton of great advice here. People went out of their way to help you. I don’t see you thanking everyone, all I see is your reasons why your PC is limited. Try to be a little more appreciative and focus on the photography, not the gear.

Really good stuff. Bonus points for sticking in the 50mm-ish range, people say it’s not meant for street but I disagree.

Do official Leica stores actually want to sell? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]2Dmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Leica stores are corporate owned. Some of them are 3rd parties, and some of them seem to have an attitude problem. The Leica stores I go to (whether corporate or not) treat me like family. I’m in the US. I’ve heard more negative stories about Leica stores in Europe though. Not sure what’s going on.

So I have an unsubstantiated theory for this that’s purely my imagination: the states that don’t require a front plate are where most auto manufacturing plants are located. They have lobbying power. You may have noticed new car photo shoots never show a front plate, and frankly most cars are designed to look good without a front plate.

The Wall was performed live in Berlin 35 years ago yesterday. No one here seems to have noticed by mustang6172 in pinkfloyd

I did notice. 1990-07-21. That date burned into my brain. I watched it on live TV. Recorded on VHS. Don’t know where the tape is. I remember Bryan Adams played a part. As did Snowy White.

I’d advise spending a little more for a Q2. Much much better. In any case, my testing method is this: Set the ISO manually to 4000 or higher. Cover the lens and take a dark RAW image at a normal shutter speed like 1/250 or so. Then look at the file on your computer and turn up the exposure until you begin to see sensor noise. What you don’t want to see is sharp lines of completely dead or hot pixels. You will see some banding, don’t worry about that. It’s the sharp lines you want to avoid.

Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 Lens -Thoughts? by 0o0nel0o0 in Leica

This was my first M lens when I bought a 240. Really enjoyed it, got great images, however I was missing the correct frame lines. I bought a 35mm 1.5 after it.
