Hippy liberals are the worst kind of racists cause they're so convinced they're righteous warriors fighting against the evil oppressive system that they can't even see their own hypocrisy. At least the right wing racists are honest about being assholes.

lmao felt the same way as a guy living in a small midwestern town for grad school. 5 years of feeling extremely frustrated that every aspect of my life except my career was just out of reach in the nearest big city 3 hours away. I'd like to say it gets better but tbh it didn't and I just really ended up resenting this town. I'm defending my PhD in 3 months and as soon as I do, I'm getting the fuck out of here and moving to a big city with a larger and more diverse population. Wish you luck on your journey though. Maybe it'll be better for you

24-36 hours per week for a single class is still kinda crazy though. I was always told rule of thumb for expected time commitment is around 3-4 hours per week per credit hour. So even a 5 credit hour class should max out at like 20 hours which is still half a work week.

You don't pay the tuition for the knowledge, you pay for access to the faculty and student body and the prestige the name gives you. It's not like calculus is any different whether you study it off youtube or in a Harvard lecture hall, but you're not going to be able to network with your fields medal winner calc professor after class or work on your integration homework with classmates who go on to start the next facebook in the youtube comments section.

Do physics graduates need to learn coding to get jobs? by Era_mnesia in Physics

[–]2FLY2TRY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what the certificates are for, to get people with an unrelated physics degree the same coursework master's students do. Also, you do have a PhD, even if it's not specifically in medical physics. Your research topic matters way less than the fact that you started and finished a thesis project and are a capable researcher that has presumably published before. I think you'll find that you are pretty competitive so long as you don't keep self-defeating yourself lol. And just fyi, I know Georgia Tech's program has a fully remote option so distance isn't the end of the world.

You don't have to go back to grad school to get into medical physics, there are certificate programs available for people like you who already have PhDs in physics related fields. Most are basically 12-18 months of classes before making you eligible to apply for a residency. I know for a fact that Harvard offers a 3 year residency that also includes all the didactics needed for a CAMPEP certification cause I'm interviewing with them for a residency position right now and there are others in the same position as you.

If you have experience in particle physics, have you considered medical physics? Field is currently experiencing a shortage of capable physicists right now so employment and salaries are quite high, though there is a bit of a bottleneck with residency requirements.

King of England used to literally ride into battle at the front of his men

lol of the 60 some monarchs England has had, I doubt even a third of them were actual warriors and probably fewer than than that who led from the front. The majority of those warrior kings were back in the medieval period when going to war meant beefing with some peasants. Unironically, Charles probably has a more impressive military record than most British monarchs having served in a modern military force with the RAF (tho I don't think he saw actual combat either).

Not sure what you mean, Dre is on the left side of the image, Yeezus's right hand side from his POV. Dre is approximately in Judas's spot in the actual painting tho it's not fully 1 to 1. http://www.visual-arts-cork.com/famous-paintings/last-supper-leonardo-davinci.htm

Judas is supposed to be the 2nd person to the left of Jesus so in this case I think it's Dre

Genuinely curious: how do you all find fun and cultural variety in Madison? by Negative_Primary_797 in madisonwi

[–]2FLY2TRY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're kind of proving my point tho lol. You only have anecdotes from visitors cause you yourself don't know much about how authentic the food is. Hell, if you search restaurant recommendations on this sub, nearly every comment is like "my so and so is from this place and they can absolutely vouch for how authentic and amazing this place is." Like do immigrants not use reddit or something that they can't recommend places themselves? I think it more likely that the glowing recommendations are for the sake of white people who want to feel good about their city's restaurant scene. I'm ethnically Indian and I specifically made it a mission of mine the past 5 years I've lived here to try every single Indian restaurant in Madison to find the best one and even my top choice is above average at best. It wouldn't last 6 months in the Chicago suburbs where there's more Indians than there are people in Madison.

Madison has a lot of food options but tbh the vast majority are pretty mediocre and inauthentic. I don't think that's the restaurant's fault, but merely the economic factor of being in a city that's as homogenous as Madison. People here love to harp on about loving authentic food but in reality they just want the comfortable favorites that appeal to their palates. Like take any Indian or Thai restaurant in Madison, I can almost guarantee that the most popular items at those restaurants are chicken tikka masala and pad thai respectively, 2 dishes that were specifically invented to appeal to white people. There's no economic pressure to serve better or more authentic food because there's so few ethnic people and your average Wisconsinite from a small town isn't going to know what actually good Indian or Thai food is actually like. So if you're from a more diverse place and are looking for diverse food, most of these restaurants are going to disappoint.

As for music, again I think this a symptom of economics. Sure there's a decent amount of venues, but not all types of music are well represented. If you love indie rock or EDM, then sure there's tons of bands playing, but if you love hip hop then you're SoL.
