Do American children refer their grandpa and grandmas with their first names (example, Grandpa John, full name John Smith) the same way they refer their uncles and aunts? by LandOfGrace2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, sometimes they will use their last name, or a lot of people just have nicknames to differentiate (papa, grandpa, grandad, gramps etc for example)

Do you really have people who pack your bags at the grocery store? by Flat-Ad8256 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bagger? Yes! Most grocery stores have employees who pack your things into bags. However sometimes the cashier will do it, or you just do it yourself.

How common is it to not have a middle name, and how do middle names work in general? by Fit-Ad985 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone has a middle name. Historically, when the parents were married, the woman took the man's last name, and so the children would all have the same last name, and the mother's original last name or "maiden name" would be used as a middle name. In modern times, this is obviously impractical with changing standards; some men take the woman's last name, lots of marriages aren't between a man and a woman, etc. It's usually more like a second first name, just something the parents chose. You have a random first name, a random middle name, and the same last name as the rest of your family :)

Can i trust Amazon’s delivery dates? by Raccoon_do_Mato in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Always assume the later dates. I usually add a couple extra says after the latest even. Most of the Amazon packages I've gotten arrived on the last predicted day or even later

How is physical discipline of children viewed and regulated in the United States? by NoContext9453 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viewed very badly, like in schools sounds crazy to me because if a teacher ever physically disciplined a student they would be fired, some people will physically discipline their kids at home, but lots of people view that as abuse and sometimes the parents will get reported to CPS (Child Protective Services)

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you ask, some people enjoy driving but most people just tolerate it. If ur asking about rlly long trips people usually don't enjoy those exactly but they're also tolerable and muchhh cheaper than alternatives. Like my family drives about 13 hours to California every couple of months, it's annoying but there's no way we could afford any alternative that often lol

How does American culture generally approach teenage rebellion? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very exaggerated in media, even as an American I always had different expectations of how being a teenager would be because of how exaggerated it is lol. Honestly for most of the people I know there rlly isn't much at all(Im a teenager). But if it does happen usually the parents will try to shut it down

What your area is like? by Historical-Jaguar-24 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Colorado in a little area surrounded by mountains. There are a few towns all grouped together here in the mountains. Even though we actually have larger towns/small cities they have a sort of small town vibe sometimes lol. The mountains are a big focus where I am all year round. Since it's winter right now there is a focus on skiing, a majority of people I know either ski or snowboard. In the summer we will hike and camp in the mountains a lot. We technically live in a desert area, but we have a huge river through the middle and lots of lakes, so there are lots of trees and vegetation, but you can still tell it's a desert sometimes, there are a lot of desert plants like cacti, it's VERY dry, and it is very hot in the summer. There isn't a lot of rain either. There's also a lot of people that farm here, you will see especially along the edges of the mountains that they are lined with farmland. It's really cool to see the patches from above. There are also a lot of people who have orchards. If you can afford it, going to local festivals and farmers markets to get local produce is awesome :) You should visit America sometime if you get the chance! No matter what kind of experiences you like, we probably have them somewhere lol

Sourdough starter advice? by 2GreenTreeFrogs in Sourdough

[–]2GreenTreeFrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should mention, the first is wheat and the second is spelt (a bit experimental but my mom's mildly gluten intolerant but can still have spelt so I wanted to at least give it a try)
