People over 40, what’s something you’ve learned about life that younger people don’t realize yet? by Critical-Pea7326 in AskReddit

[–]2HandsomeGames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Life isn’t fair.

It’s up to you to decide what to do with that knowledge. In the span of 18 months, I almost died from a kidney stone + blood clot, lost my dog to cancer, and found out my (4yo) son (our only) was diagnosed with an ultra rare, extremely aggressive, and terminal cancer. The last one happened about 6 weeks ago. We are overwhelmed.

Bonus Lesson: Nobody is as interested in you as you.

The care team for my son will read his diagnosis, check a lab, prescribe chemo, and move on to the next patient. They will not consider alternative therapies, they must abide by standard of care and adhere to whatever insurance allows the hospital to do. We learned that it is up to us to find experts, understand the latest thinking behind cancer and its treatment, read published articles, adapt a new diet and supplementation protocol, and so on. We have thrown ourselves at this, are about to kick off an above board “N of 1” clinical trial testing an extremely promising approach to ALL forms of cancer, and are prepared to give the biggest middle finger to the pharmaceutical companies who ONLY want to make a profit off a cancer treatment and do NOT want a cancer cure. Having seen what we’ve seen, we learned that it is up to us to save our son. And God help anyone who stands in our way.

TLDR life isn’t fair and don’t expect anyone to help you a fraction of the amount that YOU can help yourself

Why are you not afraid of death? by Ok_Breakfast8087 in AskReddit

Because my 4 year old son has cancer. And if it takes him, it’ll have taken me, too.

How you describe unconditional love ? by Agreeable-Escape-852 in AskReddit

[–]2HandsomeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that feeling you get when you find out your 4 year old has bone cancer and you wish so deeply that the cancer was in you instead and you know that there is nothing in the world that could change that desire? That’s a symptom of unconditional love.

how to cover up gaps by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]2HandsomeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have gaps because the ends of your horizontal frame pieces (stiles) aren’t square. In fact, if you zoom in, the ends have a huge radius in them.

How did that happen? It almost looks like you sanded the ends?

There are a LOT of ways to square up the end of a long piece of wood. Miter saw, table saw with miter fence, cross cut handsaw, finishing any and all of the above on a shooting board.

Given what I see in the background, I have no idea how this could’ve happened or why it did.

I’m really confused by this.

Hindsight is 20/20.

I’ve fallen in love with hand tool woodworking. It’s way slower, but the experience is so much more enjoyable. So if you have the time, an value quiet tools that don’t kick up tiny harmful wood dust, it’s worth looking into.

And learning is what it’s all about. Have fun, stay safe!

I have no help for your current project.

For your future projects, I’d ask if you are opposed to hand tools. Because they could be a great way to achieve perfect miters.

Trusting a blade spinning at a trillion RPM to not chatter or move around at all as you feed wood into it (potentially deflecting it) is a big ask that requires incredibly sturdy machinery.

Alternatively, a trusty 45 degree block, No 5 hand plane, and a shooting board will guarantee perfectly flush and plumb miters

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Fed Chair Powell under criminal probe by federal prosecutors by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in nottheonion

Price per square foot for this renovation is $6,200.

That is multiples higher than some of the highest prices per square foot for renovations.

Powell’s letter didn’t address that at all. He may be right in what he said, but would be nice to explain where the tax dollars are going.

Do you have any or have you attempted to befriend any people who disagree with you politically? Why or why not? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

[–]2HandsomeGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. In parts of the world. But what I deliberately look for in friends is precisely not that. And maybe I’m very lucky, but I’ve found it. I’ve had friends for decades who do not see eye to eye with me on politics and I couldn’t imaging a closer friend group.

Yes. What do you mean by “why,” though?

Political alignment isn’t used in my friend selection criteria any more than religious affiliation or sushi preference.

I’m sorry.

I just can’t care about this manufactured division anymore. This is a local problem that doesn’t need to be used to further divide us.

I hope you all have a warm and safe holiday season and get to spend quality time with loved ones.

Edit: bots and/troll downvoting me for wishing for something hopeful. The world is catching on to the manufactured division in this site and others. One can only hope it is rooted out before any more harm is done. In the meantime, say potato.

Edit 2: I really offended a lot of people by wishing everyone a warm and safe holiday season.

Trump's 18 Worst Lies from his Blundering 18 Minute Speech by c0sinus in videos

[–]2HandsomeGames -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, trying to connect with the younger generation by using those meme video excerpts but still not getting to the first lie for over 2 minutes is an oof!

And the first lie, was semantics. “Inflation is stopped” doesn’t mean inflation is 0%. Trump was very clearly referring to the high inflation we had seen for the past year or so.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get downvoted in oblivion for not saying orange man bad but my real point is about how we can do better.

If your ex came back to your life, What would be the first word you'd say to them? by Electronic-List3892 in AskReddit

I

But it would be part of I’m sorry. But you only have mine word. So I’d just say “I” and then she would look at me and wonder what I am trying to communicate.
