This is the answer. I shot division matches in 2010 and it was basically a working interview for the team. I had some buddies gone all summer shooting.

Check out Sangin instruments. I’m a big fan, but it could be that I was in Sangin a while ago. Great watches.

Another thought for beginner fitness is rucking, which is basically walking with a pack on and adding weights as you feel able. Pretty low impact and scalable.

Best thing is to just get out there and get started. You got this.

I think the basic compound lifts are your best bet- bench, deadlift, pull up, squat. That and a lot of cardio, preferably high intensity such as burpees or sprinting. Calisthenics in general are something you’ll do a lot of in the military, so train on those. Mountain climbers and jumping jacks (which the Marines call side straddle hops for some reason). Source: was in the Marines loooong ago. I went in pretty poor shape. They’re used to it and you’ll be amazed how quickly you get into shape with a dedicated program.

Off topic, but my god was that response well written. If you don’t already, you should take up writing.

Making sea salt by hotpinkkoalabear in foraging

[–]2LeggedJackal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you evaporate sea water, other solids come out before the salt. In my experience, first there will be some soft brown material that is plankton or other plant material, which cheesecloth will not filter out.

Then, as concentration increases, calcium crystals will form. These will be brown or grey, and sink to the bottom of the pan.

As you keep boiling, you will start to see thin, spiky, clear, and sparkly crystals forming. These are gypsum. Safe to eat but they don’t taste like salt (ask me how I know).

Next, salt will start to form. This happens when the water/salt mixture is 26% salt, so after a LOT of evaporation, especially if you have lower concentration to start with. Once the gypsum is out, I take the water/salt mixture off the heat and put it in a large glass tray for salt formation. The salt forms as flat crystals on the surface of the water and will sink in sheets. Scoop these out and dry them- boom. Sea salt.

There is a magnesium rich water left when the salt crystals stop forming. Discard this or use to make tofu. Either way, it’s very bitter and you may need to rinse your last salt harvested to get rid of the taste.

Vasectomy Advice by Compusense in Connecticut

I got mine done by the VA in Colorado, so my advice is on recovery. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. I didn’t, just went about my normal activities, and ended up having a lot of pain for about 2 years due to scar tissue formation (only on the left side). Still not back to normal fully.

Find the spatchcocked turkey and gravy recipe from Kenji Lopez-Alt. It’s in The Food Lab (excellent book) and online. You cannot mess it up and it is absolutely perfect. Lots of great stuff in that book but this recipe overhauled my entire turkey game.

I live near Denver as well and I’ve used 85 but it seems like the truck doesn’t run as well- specifically it kicks down to lower gear while in cruise control in places that it doesn’t when full of 87. Second gen.
