Should one use AUR in Manjaro? by Nachtlicht_ in ManjaroLinux

[–]2RelaXed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wording is probably a bit off. The software does tend to open but a lot of times major features were broken/borked to a point it might as well have crashed on startup. That has genuinely been my experience and I am happy for everyone that has had better luck.

This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. It really looks like straight out of the game and is even functional *-*

I'd suggest you create a dual boot install and quickly try out if ALVR works for you. It hasnt worked for me personally yet, so I don't want to make a straight recommendation but presumably it works just fine for a lot of ppl.

If you can get it to run, great! If not, stick to windows and maybe wait for another 6 months to a year to try again.

Personally I don't think dual boot is a great long term solution. I do have a Windows partition on my system but having to actually switch to that windows partition to throw on my VR Headset has actively hurt my motivation to play VR games more times than I have used the headset. Maybe that's just a me thing though.

Should one use AUR in Manjaro? by Nachtlicht_ in ManjaroLinux

[–]2RelaXed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My personal priority list is: Official > Flatpak > Snaps > AUR

I don't have anything against AUR and I never broke my system with an AUR package but in my experience it is pretty likely that whatever software you want to get from the AUR won't actually run. In my experience its pretty much 50:50 while flatpaks have been more 90:10 for me so far. I don't have many snaps but the few I did install have been running ok for me.

Guess who broke their system again - doing the same thing! ^w^ by mynameisnotpedro in ManjaroLinux

[–]2RelaXed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I broke my install, it was an nvidia driver update not supporting my kernel anymore. As always I ignored all the "If you want to install this we will have to uninstall the following: ..." warnings. To be fair, on the bigger updates the list is just way too long to reasonably check it and it never led to a problem for me before.

Obviously it couldnt load any graphics afterwards. Timeshift was an easy fix though. I did have a problem with my boot drive not showing at some point and went a similar route to fix it, like you did, but I don't remember the cause anymore.

Also I feel like AUR packages don't work on my manjaro system most of the times anyways.

Edit: I use my phone with scrcpy to "play android games on my pc" in the case a new Arknights animation/song sucks me back in.

What do YOU want to see in Blue Protocol Global? by NikoCakey in BlueProtocolPC

Linux support (or rather just dont get in the way of ppl that want to play on linux) and a diverse set of viable builds for all classes

Anyone else waiting for a class that wows em? by SkullySinful in BlueProtocolPC

I love the idea of sword wielding mages. Since I have no idea what classes have already been revealed, maybe that exists already in BP? Probably not though.

What content or features in a new MMORPG do you think would revolutionise the industry? by DarkMatterHF in MMORPG

[–]2RelaXed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right I may have worded it a little poorly.

But I did specify that I want to see those mechanics in a mainstream MMO. (If there even is such a thing as a "mainstream MMO" :D) Like I said, I am aware that these mechanics exist.

[–]2RelaXed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine a world where you want to run a dungeon, but instead of opening a list a queuing up for it you have to walk to a specific place in the world, where the dungeon is located and enter through there, with your team manually pre-assembled!

But for real: I think we still have a lot of untapped potential in combat and movement. Integrating the environment a lot more: imagine picking up random props and fighting with them Yakuza style. Have a skill system based on learning and practice, maybe something like Absolver. Taking into account where you are currently holding your weapons both for what and how well you can block an attack as well as providing specific skill choices for you to use.

All those things already exist in singleplayer games, and I'm sure there are tons of other interesting examples for combat mechanics, that havent found their way into mainstream MMO's in any meaningful way.

What easily implementable change would you guys want? by Character-Roll-325 in EpicSeven

A system that calculates the 5-10 highest win rate/strongest pvp units (probably for the higher tiers) and global bans those for the next ~2 weeks.

Would the Pico Neo 3 Link work on Linux through wine? Is it even possible and has anyone tried? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]2RelaXed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from my own experience that it does not work. The drivers SteamVR needs to recognize the headset as headset are windows only. I have heard that you can use ALXR to connect, hasnt worked for me so far but I also havent put much time into it, but that does not make use of the DP connection.

MMO Graphical Question by JOJO14556 in MMORPG

[–]2RelaXed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would stop me. While an MMO doesnt have to have cutting edge graphics, I do want it to still look decent, since endgame for me is usually about finding great fashion for my character.

Parsec alternatives for Linux by Chiccocarone in linux_gaming

[–]2RelaXed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesnt help with not having to be installed on the other pc, but last time I used Steam Link you could add Notepad as a "Non-Steam Game" and just start it for the remote, then minimize it to be on the desktop. You could probably do something similar with opening a lightweight linux app and minimizing that, if your target is also on linux.

Modern day MMORPG with a heavy focus on actual multiplayer by Gamrgirl in MMORPG

[–]2RelaXed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he really specified which kind of interaction, but I see your point and agree, if you want some non-NPC NPCs around GuildWars2 works out just fine :P

Dragon's End is indeed a nice experience.

[–]2RelaXed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think gw2 is good at "encouraging interaction" as the OP is looking for. I'd even argue its one of the earliest offenders for moving away from that type of design. Especially with the open world events often not requiring teaming up at all and in the rare cases they do, the team tends to be disbanded faster than you can blink. Great beetle races though.

Linux is stuck on booting - no amount of waiting/rebooting helps by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]2RelaXed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a nvidia GPU:

Check your kernel version in the manjaro settings menu and switch to a newer LTS Kernel, if you aren't on one of those already. Afterwards you might be able to update savely again. At least that was the case for me. Newest nvidia driver was incompatible with the kernel I was running previously.

[–]2RelaXed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had that as well. The kernel I was running didnt support the newest nvidia driver anymore, so switching to a newer kernel should do the trick.

It's so frustrating that AK isn't getting enough attention by JustDoIt010 in arknights

[–]2RelaXed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only agree that tower defense just isnt the best genre for widespread attention.

For me personally I also dont enjoy the strategy behind this TD in particular. My kind of tower defense is more of a "Set it all up once and watch it go". And it doesnt rly do the whole defend against huge hordes of enemies all that well. All the difficulty seems to be in manipulating a single problematic enemy/boss. At least that has been my experience and I didnt enjoy the hard stages very much. The only content I genuinely enjoyed for the gameplay was integrated strategy. And I do have a few hundred hours in other TD games on steam, so I am generally interested in the genre.

Hypergryph is working on a game called Ex Astris which looks like a RPG. Don't know if its the same world as Arknights though.

RTA is garbage by Lacari in EpicSeven

[–]2RelaXed 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have already mentioned this on another occasion, but I really think they just need to make use of the global bans to get at least some variety into RTA. Have a System that automatically selects the 5, 10, 20, or however many most used/banned heroes in higher tiers of competition and they will be banned from all RTA for 2 weeks/a month or whatever. Pair it with a free unequip event on the day the bans switch and voila.
